Highlights:

There will be more updates before Colonies.

Colonies will include new gameplay modes, including long term Science Collection.

There will be 'supply flights' to the Orbital Colonies, but this is a later feature.

Precision Maneuver Nodes and Alarm Clock as Stock is definitely planned, but no word on When.

Colonies will be put anywhere you pick.

Colony Parts will be counted in dozens.

Automated Delivery Routes is planned more for the Resources Update than the Colony Update, to avoid griding deliveries to Colonies in the meantime.

There's some discussion about the difference between Craft and Workspace in the VAB.

With a game of this complexity, the level of planning would be immense, and must be difficult to explain to a big team. I can definitely relate to that experience of scrambling to put out the fires but that takes longer than just taking it slowly and following a plan. It's a constant challenge because it's so counter-intuitive.
