Any success with steam refunds?

Recommended Posts

The year is 3527.  Amidst the rubble of the old civilization, a wandering scavenger digs for anything of value. He finds a box, opens it. Inside is a stained piece of papyrus. On it, in the ancient language, he is able to decipher:

"Rights to the noble game of Kerbal-Celestial-Operation-the-Second. Offered to the bearer for the sum of 85 million US Dollars".

The scavenger scowls. "I don't have that kind of money" he mutters under his breath.

His thoughts are interrupted by a small figure moving off to his right. A scrawny, rag-covered urchin.

"Hey Kid!", he calls, then chuckles, "You got 85 million on you?"

The small figure cautiously approaches. "No sir, I ain't got nothing smaller than this 100 million coin". The child opens his hand to reveal a tiny, tarnished circle of bronze.

"That'll do," smiles the scavenger "This is all yours".

"Gee thanks mister!", the urchin replies happily, and scuttles away clutching the dirty papyrus.

The scavenger watches him leave. "Nothing changes... there's still a sucker born every minute". After a moment, he tosses the empty box aside and returns to his digging.

Some people in the EU and Australia seemed to have gotten some success when asking for a refund despite being way above the maximum hours, thanks to several laws. If you live in any of this places it can't hurt to give it a try, citing several sources as proof that the game has ceased development and all the promises have been left in the dust.

If you don't live in the EU or Australia or any place with decent consumer protection laws, then good luck lol

Nice story

But the real reason this thread exists is for people to post any success they’ve had with steam refunds as well as anything they’ve heard about other people as refunding this game

I'd say you go and ask around the subreddit.

I got my first refund a month after purchase, 5+ hours into the game by demonstrating to a human (steam support, not automated refund options) that official PD support was only giving dismissive, uninformed answers. It took many tries, long discussions and having to screenshot everything, but I did get my refund.

I got a refund about 3 or 4 weeks after the game entered EA. I was above the 2 week refund limit. But the game had more negative than positive reviews back then  and I argued that the trailers etc. are not even close to what the game looks and feels like. Bottom line, they refunded me the money without arguing even though I exceeded the usual refund requirements.

Not sure if Steam still refunds it after much more than a year of EA though. I sure as hell would try though if I still had it right now.
