Firespitter propeller plane and helicopter parts v7.1 (May 5th) for KSP 1.0

It's called "An insight into owning, restoring servicing and flying", note the word insight.

It has lots of details on selected minutiae, like changing the brake disc on a Lancaster rear wheel, but will be missing a ton of other equivalent things. It's filled with lots of history, articles and pretty pictures mixed in with schematics, checklists and such. So the target audience is the fan, not the mechanic, which I imagine suits all of us just fine.

Double posted from its own thread

This is the first public usable draft of the new flight recorder.

You can record a path and then play it back later. A dummy plane will fly around following the path you flew originally.

Download

Control it via the gui window, and optionally use the following hotkeys:

F12 - show/hide the menu

O - Start recording the path.

P - Stop recording

K - Start playback

L - Make the dummy plane go off rails, and fall out of the sky. (useful when you want it to look like you shot it down)

Current limitations:

-Recording will one be remembered in the current flight. Saving and loading from text files will come later.

-It will not use your craft as the dummy, but the model in the models folder, but it can be replaced.

I'm working on the saving and loading of paths now. When that stops throwing errors, you can record multiple paths and play them back at the same time, using different models for each path.

Step two is making mission configurations which will play back select paths at different times, to create scenarios like escorting a bomber and defending it from enemy fighters.

This also means detecting hits to the enemy dummy planes and sending them off rails, falling out of the sky.

Step three would be trying to load craft files and assemble a dummy from the parts used in it. But it's likely tricky getting info on which model is used for each part.

im having a bug where the proppelers dont animate, they just stay still. the actual pitch of the blade changes though, and when i launch a craft with helicopter blades a bunch of error logs is posted to the right side of the screen (before when i tried the helicopter blades the screen went black and the vessel speed was NaN and everything was being wierd. this used to happen with another mod, clockwork indujstries, when i tried there electric engine.)

Make sure that you have installed it properly, not leaving out the dll, and don't use The Kerbal Insterstellar mod and electric motors at the same time.

I was thinking, I made this really good plane using only your parts and it's easy to fly, takes off from the runway really quick and has a good design. I even flew it into a building at over 150 m/s and the cockpit survived. I don't even know how. I immediately thought, "Hey, if I told Snjo about my plane and I asked if it could go in the example craft he might test it and say yes!". So yeah, I want you to try out my craft. Please.

That was a cute little plane, and it flew well. Sure, I can throw it in the mix :)

Hey Snjo,

Loving the parts! Having a bit of a problem, though. I built this, and it flies beautifully. Unfortunately, it's only drawing fuel from the wings. Imagine my surprise when both engines violently failed on my way back from the airstrip. You should have seen the landing, man. I had to change my pants.

Any idea why this is happening?

Fuel doesn't jump across radial attachments. You need fuel line jumpers between the fuselage and wings.

You can draw fuel from the main fuselage and into stuff on the wings, but only if the wings don't have a fuel tank in them.

So either you have wings with internal tanks and fuel lines from the fuselage, or wings with no tanks, in which case fuel lines aren't needed.

It's a bit weird.

@AdmiralTigerClaw: After I've done a bunch of other stuff. Trying to organize my todo lists. New parts, new part sets, fixing old parts, new plugin features, and fixes for old. And then there's all the user suggestions...

This uses various mods...but since the fuselage and the props are from this mod, I'd showcase it here.

Just an F.Y.I.: THIS ISN'T A CARRRRRRR.

EDIT: Gonna try to redesign it...again...with fuel powered engines this time...

EDIT 2: The Bat MK-V, fixed the power issues with help from the warp plugin's generators, and its still maneuverable...in fact I landed! :D

BUT UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES IS THIS A CARRRRRRRR!!

Finally got around to the wheels. Only thing left for biplanes are some minor tweaks, and the cockpit IVA stuff.

edit: And of course, you can't have a tail wheel on a biplane, you gotta have a skid! (it even steers)

On the Fokker, they are also used as wing tip protector skids.

Better period instruments underway. This is for the WWII era and beyond. And simpler separate pitch and roll setup for the WWI biplanes.

Making some cage adjustment button code for it now, so you can adjust it to the seat height of the pilot.

I love the landing skid...love the biplane, the new IVA prop is excellent.

I came here to request a high visibility ww2 era cockpit for IVA flying, but I see you have a few projects already on the go and might be a bit busy.

Anyway, should you get the chance.

That cockpit has a face only a mother could love :)

A cockpit with better visibility would be good. Not in love with the look of that one, but I'm open to suggestions for the future.

Got the first Artificial Horizon working in game. Just gotta re-skin it for the different eras.

Comically over sized for educational porpoises.

The Cage button locks the inner disc to center, so you can adjust the alignment better, (and theoretically not mess up the gyro during crazy maneuvers, but I wouldn't worry about that).
