Damn, I actually checked this thread solely to see mercury used in this mod!

Yes bro, frizzank bring us the first steps of US Space Program, with this legendary space capsule...together with the another parts of this awesome and amazing pack!!!

Can you post a link as to how its done without a plugin? I can't seem to find any info on adding camera monitors in IVA.

Not camera monitors, at least not literally. It won't show anything unless you double-click on it, then it takes you to a "periscope view" camera. I don't know if there's any good documentation for it, though.

Why would it be complex to split it off?
Doesn't look like there's a central attachment point to the engine at all so it wouldn't look attached under another tank and the space for it in between the tanks is so unstandard it would be difficult to mount any other engine there unless it's very small.

Anyway, I like it as it is and use it as a stage in other rockets which are mostly stock.

Yea the atlas fairing "can" work with other engines and the Atlas main engine looks a little weird under stock tanks. Also it has no fairing if you use it as a second stage. I could make a fairing for the boosters, as nothing is attached to them...

Do you plan to make the MOL laboratory parts work à la the new Science Lab Module that we're getting with 0.23? It'll allow science experiments (like surface samples or Mystery Goo canisters) to be analyzed without physically returning it to Kerbin (also a new change). Seems like an excellent fit for MOL.

Yes, I do plan to realscale/realstat the rest. Just been busy.

Wishing Squad would just hire you RSS/RO guys to work on that stuff full time as a sort of official add-on package for us advanced/crazy KSPers. Hell, I'd pay real money again if they did a non-free update just to support that.

If not DynaSoar then what? :) Perhaps the Explorer 1? The first US satellite would fit there nicely, and it was launched on a Redstone with a very Kerbal set of solid upper stages.

I'm trying out the BigG crew compartment, and it makes it so the Gemini cannot re-enter the atmosphere due to the lift it generates. (I'm running FAR, btw, if that helps).

Did I build it wrong or was that crew compartment never meant to be put on something that comes back down to Kerbin?

Far fakes real drag by looking at the cross section of the part. bigger the cross section the bigger the drag. I don't have any experience tweaking far stuff, but an easy fix is to give the nosecone more drag. Down side to this is that you want the craft to be pointing up when leaving as well as when coming back

Also try adding a drouge chute and deploy it early.

Try a powered reentry. Also, you could try making Big Gemini crew module heavier. It's not only drag, COM position is also very important. Basically, a spacecraft in atmo tries to point COM-first.

I was able to get it to straighten out with four B9 airbrakes. The BigG doesn't handle Real Solar System / Realism Overhaul reentries very well -- it overheats even on fairly shallow reentries (I'm going to be coming back from geosynchronous orbit).

I'll keep messing around with it since this is the most compact and light way for me to get six kerbals (required for RemoteTech remote guidance) out there for my initial satellite deployment. I need to find a reentry profile that gets me to the ground safely without skipping off the atmosphere. (Oxygen budget is kinda tight, can't waste too much time doing aerobrake orbits.)

looking at Big G it is too light, it has a mass of 2. Considering that the 3 man capsules have a mass of 3.5 and 4, Big G should probably weigh 4.5 or 5 even. Can someone test these values out with far and see if it helps? I don't want to make it two heavy then there is no point in having a single pod.

Also its angular drag was set at 0.25 while the pod has an angular drag of 0.2, don't know if far takes this into account.

Alright, is the attach node on the bottom of the BigG capsule (or the equivalent heat shield) the appropriate size? FAR uses that to estimate the drag of the blunt end of a capsule, and if the attach node size isn't equal to part diameter divided by the attachNodeDiameterFactor int he config.xml (or at least close to it) the appropriate drag / blunt body stability won't be applied to it.

It looks tiny. Here it is directly next to the rescaled 4-meter Mk1-2 from RO:

LwNIjEd.jpg

This is the regular Gemini and BigG since the Gemini rescale part doesn't have (so far as I know) a rescaled BigG to go with it. Unless I missed an update. Did I miss an update?

Edit: I'm also at looking at just creating a custom re-entry setup using the rescale 4-meter Mk1-2 heatshield at the bottom since I need a place to put the remote guidance unit (and RCS, batteries, and oxygen) anyways:

(haven't tested this one out yet)

jrandom: you didn't miss an update. I missed an extra eleventy-hundred hours to do it. Although Dragon01's doing some of it too. Coming Soon . And in module manager form rather than via duplicate parts.

frizzank: and that's why I'm always bugging part-makers to use appropriate-size attach nodes for everything. It doesn't matter to joint strength, but it matters to FAR. :)
