Sufficient Anonymity
Apologies for the night-time shot, but after a mammoth flight to sort out some observations for a contract, I quite wanted to capture things on landing exactly as-is... capi3101
Spent yesterday in 1.2.2 on the 2017 Kerbal Dakar Challenge. Snow day this morning, so I've spent the last few hours finishing the race. Time's pretty decent if I've done the math right; will now check to make sure I didn't cheat. All I can say about the challenge is that night Mün roving has got nothing on it... Will return to my regularly scheduled save later today, probably. Not all the mods are working in 1.2.2 - I need to figure out which ones and see what the deal is. Also should download the dev version of FAR; flew with stock air a couple of times during the Challenge (to make part deliveries), and while the job got done (crediting Atmosphere Autopilot for that) I'd still like to have the stability analyses back... I used it on stock Class E and it was working flawlessly (actually TOO flawlessly, that's why the "heavier asteroids", it's just too strong for stock Class E). The mesh and collider are good 20m apart there, the craft sinking a good 1/3 its length into the surface before "making contact". After burning half a tank, I got 0.1m/s - so it's not entirely powerless, just waaay too weak - after all, stock Class E are up to 3000 tons, this one is nearly three million. I needed about 20x the mass, meanwhile, I made the patch to give them 20x radius. Meaning roughly 8000x the mass. I've fueled the tug full and sent it back home, next I'll catch new asteroids as they spawn (current ones, after fixing the patch, got their radius back in check - this one looked genuinely "Class F" - but they have the mass stored in the save and it won't go back down.) justidutch
The Public Relations department at KSC has just released details of four missions that were attended to recently, most of them to do with Minmus, only because there are no transfer windows to other planets at the moment... First off was a short mission for the science lander docked at Minmus Stayshun, the lab there could use some more data and a contract to plant a flag on the ground was queued up. One of the resident scientists hopped aboard the small ship and plotted a course to the south pole which hadn't been visited yet. The flag was planted and science gathered, then two short hops to other biomes were also included before docking back at the station. Spoiler Next up was a contract to expand the station orbiting the mint moon, mission parameters were to add space for four kerbals, and to add one of the recently designed cupolas. The designers got a hold of this and cooked up something unique - why not add two cupolas and create a sort of observatory? It was late in the day and the department heads signed off on the plans without perusing the details. The ship was sent up, everything went perfectly as planned, the new observatory was transported to Minmus via a Poodle engine and tank of gas. Upon arrival, as planned, the observatory separated from it's transfer vehicle and via two small temprorarily attached RCS tanks and engines (and probe cores), then affixed itslef perfectly upon the top of the station. The transfer stage then also docked to the station which, considering there was no RCS or anything, just the Poodle engine, went extremely smoothly. The designers were giddy and all went for drinks, only to be called back into the office and reprimanded heavily for their lack of math skills: the capacity of the station was only increased by two, not four!!!! The designers blame the scientists and engineers, insisting that the original blueprints for the cupola stated a crew capacity of two (whereas obviously the production models only house one). Spoiler So, another mission had to be sent to Minmus Stayshun to fulfill the contract. The department heads put their, well, heads together and decided to blow the contract's budget and create another science hopper, mainly because there are new experiments that can now be performed with the new Gravioli detector. Another easy flight to the station, another Poodle based transfer stage, another flawless docking. Spoiler The last report is regarding the ongoing Spayce Stayshun mission which reached the periapsis of its orbit around the sun. It burnt the rest of its transfer stage fuel, as was the plan, and after separating that stage the final mostly circular orbit of this station rests a little ways inside that of Eve. The two scientists aboard have been diligently performing their experiments on data gathered around Minmus, reporting their findings back to KSC every once in a while. The pilot on the station who spends the bulk of his time by himself as the others work, is considering mutiny, jumping aboard the lifeboat and abandoning the others without any means of propulsion... septemberWaves
I've been gone for a while. I just finished a week of mock exams, and I had a lot of revision to do which left me with less time to play KSP than I would've liked. Nevertheless, I have been preparing for something. I'm finally going to be doing a Jool 5 mission...

That's my story. This one is a Class D. The two little sparks at the top? Two rhino engines at full power. Not making a squat of a difference. I'm pretty sure you just made a portable Gilly --- Decided to do something a bit different, and do some reconnaissance for future missions (I know right, planning ahead? I really was driven insane!) First up: checking out the terrain of Tidus's poles: Just as I suspected: the poles are very mountainous. What I did not expect, however, were the giant glaciers at the edge of the poles. I might have to check those out... Next up: figure out orbital velocity in low Etal orbit to find the minimum delta-v required to land. I didn't actually do a circularization burn, since I couldn't pass up the huge gravity assist, so I took the delta-v required for a circularization burn, and subtracted it from my velocity at periapsis. Alright, let's see, velocity at periapsis is... ~4000 m/s. Off to a good start! The circularization burn takes ~1300 m/s, so 4000 - 1300 = 2700, and 2700 * 2 = 5400. 5400 m/s. And that's just the minimum. Oh boy!
Servo
I updated my B-52 Cockpit (it's no longer a DC-3), then put the rest of the plane on. I also downloaded DMP again, so that will be fun.

I once landed a class E. It survived the reentry - while every single astificial attachment (and there were a bunch!) literally turned into sparkly dust.
