What did you do in KSP1 today?

I installed a stock KSP(with some essential tools: Kerbal Engineer, Enhanced Navball + Docking Indicator and Editor Tools) install. I then struggled to build a realistic looking launcher for my 50-ton Duna lander and ascent stage and struggled even more to get it into orbit that doesn't have an inclination of 30 degrees.

I had two Kerbals stranded on the Mun after their landing had a bit of a mishap landing.

Today I got round to sending a lander to rescue them...

Which landed about 35km from them but luckily they had a rover and could drive to the rescue lander...

But Bob snuck onboard which means there isn't room for both Jeb and Bill now so I left Bob on the Mun to punish him for sneaking onto the recovery lander!

Making a new rocket based on the template for a rocket someone suggested to me that didn't worked. This one has five stages and one backup stage in case of emergency.

jcpayFh.png

Stage one: Boosters - They are to help the rocket get the upper hand in taking off.

Stage two: Triple Engines - Basic raw power to get the rocket out of Kerbin's atmosphere.

Stage three: Uni Engine - Used to continue the Triple Engines' work in case they run out of fuel and to get the rocket into a circular orbit.

Stage four: Dual Engines - They are used as a backup fuel if the Uni Engines fail. Might not be enough.

Stage five: Lander - The section used to land and take off from the Mün.

Stage six: Command pod - The main center of operations housing famed kerbalnaut Bill Kerman as he tries to go further than Jebediah Kerman's orbital Jetster 4(currently orbiting Kerbin as we speak) and land on the Mün and come back(if possible.

Let's see if we can get THIS one into the real deal! The several graves of Kerbalnauts who died during the process and also Kerbalnauts who were absorbed back into Kerbin's atmosphere in the process are cheering for Bill Kerman!

EDIT: Add Bill to the count of dead Kerbals, because this one failed horrifically.

Lose those forward winglets, unless you want to see this thing flip over mid-launch.

I did in favour to more boosters, but thing is, this rocket's weight ratio is so big that it consumes way more fuel to get that thing out of the atmosphere and get the Apoapsis right, and in the end it went worse than Jetster 4.

Thing is I don't know how to set a heavy rocket to orbit.

I exploded today...

Or rather I decommissioned my space station, at the cost of one kerbal. The first fighter to reach it (I used the gatling gun mod) I had tried to turn around after slowing my approach but started the turn too late or the craft simply didn't have the maneuverability to make the turn take your pick. Needless to say it crashed into the main kethane tank and split the station in two. This is the one that killed the kerbal.

Second fighter to reach it kept a distance of around 200m and blasted the station to bits.

Sorry to hear that. I'll add my two cents on the thread you've got going.

What for are plans anyway?

As I did not think once more, I kept my 2/3 period deployment orbit for my comm-sat transporter instead of changing it into something that would give me a square formation, I ended up doing a triangle formation once more - this time I paid more attention to fine-tuning each satellites orbit - after one went kinda rogue and I had to let it overtake the others to get it into position once more.

Radial burns halfway to AP or PE are quite useful here I learned, but even with fine control RCS it was a pain.

And: Good thing the satellites do not use power when not the active vessel ...

As I had planned for a four sat setup I had one to spare to nearly 2000 m/s dV left in my transporter, so Jeb got a practice run on establishing a geostationary orbit - lots of pain once more, but actually easier then tweaking an orbit at 800km.

Still having lots of fuel, he paid Minmus a visit in a low flyby.

Well today I finally took a break from my career mode save and started up a sandbox and the first craft I sent up was a prototype Space Station that I was inspired to build based on a youtube video I saw.

Sent it all up in one piece with two mini tugs ready to assemble it, and after some slight frustrations completed it.

I built a teeny tiny 'ickle plane that I want to take to Laythe in a cargo bay.

Will make the attempt later tonight. Flying around the skies of an alien world...cool. Assuming I make it of course. Dying in a horrible explosion in space or the rich atmosphere of a gas giant's moon...not so cool.

Redesigned my Sandstone series probes; next time I try to go to Jool, I might actually have enough delta-V to stick around for a bit. I haven't given up on my goal of putting a probe around every moon in the Joolian system, but I'm pretty sure the planned atmospheric dive is scrubbed.

Got a similar probe to a confirmed 700 klick encounter with Eeloo in a game year from now. Next up is to send a probe out to Dres, then a pair for Gilly and Eve.

Basically just killing time until the next Duna window comes up and I can get the Constellation Program back on the road. Alarm Clock is making that easier; I feel like I've got an actual space program going on now. Missed a Moho window; kind of annoyed at Alarm Clock for that one.

Dont you think you are beginning al Little bit early with your gravity turn? :D

Look like he lost two of the three first stage engines in stage 7, I guess the rocket is to heavy to take off on three trashcans alone and fell down on pad.

I used an rocket much like his upper stage with four trashcans who was burned two and two as first and second stage and the acceleration was not impressive and this rocket is more than twice as heavy and uses three.
