There a trick to landing? Every time I've tried to land one I've plunked the prop into the dirt and killed the motor.

That happens occasionally with take off for me. I have the problem that my aircraft love the water on a carrier take off in defiance of the elevators.

You have to tilt the nose up when your about to touch down to prevent that.

Also, make sure you deploy the flaps and that you are going sufficiently slow. Press F to deploy the flaps.

So far I usually survive the landing, but what's left of the engine gets wrecked in the process.

I'm up to level 3 America, level 1 Germany though.

I've not been shot down so much as crashing into the ground. The way the plane reacts to the ground and the damage model is very good.

I need to start playing more tomorrow, I'm only at lv 1 British.

If it helps, you probably couldn't find me because I haven't actually logged into the game yet. I've created an account and downloaded the client, but I'm still waiting until later tonight so I can run the patcher without redlining my monthly data allowance.

Just got to sit in the seat of an A5M, and got a nice kill streak going strafing AAs with it before someone caught me and knocked a wing off of it.

Also, I had a fun time with Odin. We were trying a historical mission, and somebody was on his tail, so I went to take the dude out, but then Odin crashed into a tree xP

1. check your ping, it could be lag between you and the server

2. you could be hitting an invisible tree hitbox

3. you could be the worst pilot ever

Sometimes when strafing trucks and zooming in on them, I *accedently* forgot that I'm REALLY close to the ground. So I pull up. But then there is a tree. NOOO

That happens sometimes to me but I power down my engine so much I can't pull up from the strafing run and I crash into the ground. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I love the damage models in the gaem.

I've just done the singe mission- Eagle Day, solo. Having to face 29 He111 with a few AI partners in a Hurricane is quite a challenge but then I had to land with the damaged aircraft. The engine damage was on black but I thought that meant the engine was broken but it worked to get back across the channel and land.

Autorepair is optional? I was under the impression that the planes would be broken without it?

Nope,

with autorepair off your planes repair over time (low level planes repair fast, high level planes slowly - a couple of minutes up to a week for a high level bomber with kerbal crew).

This repair over time is free, autorepair costs money (a huge amount of money for high level planes). So if you alternate between nations you can save a lot. And higher lvl planes cost a lot.

You don't have to bother with it for tier 1-5 tough, the difference is very small (you can see your costs in the log). Stats like these are displayed when you mouse over your planes in the hangar. Reserve planes are always free to repair.

This, in my case. The trees just pull me in, and at the last second I try to pull up and just clip it hard enough to knock a wing off or kill my engine. I have a notorious habit of noseplanting my craft when trying to land as well, typically shredding engine and prop but still getting points for a 'soft' landing

That was awful. I was attempting to evade while running at a really low altitude, and not too good of an airspeed. Saw the tree coming and pulled up, but I must have stalled or something cause it just plain didn't happen in time. Doesn't help that the Kingfisher is kinda heavy on the controls and doesn't react well.

Though I actually did win a historic mission later on. Turns out you can in fact use the reserve planes in historic mode, but against everyone's Tier4/5 planes you're basically a sitting duck to only operate as a decoy or scout. My win was in a He51C.

My problem is I'll get too close to the ground while on my strafing run, and then realize that the target has a hill behind it. Quite a few times now I've actually had my landing gear touch enemy soil while pulling out of a strafe run. And a lot of these end in trees anyway when that maneuver kills my airspeed and I stall as I approach the treeline.

Though I did make level 2 last night. America 3 Germany 2 Japan 1.
