Taking our most successful fighter, the Drekevak Class, to a whole new level, was the Heavy Drek Mk IV. But now the Mk VII surges lightyears ahead.

Definition of Destroyer:

In naval terminology, a destroyer is a fast and maneuverable yet long-endurance warship intended to escort larger vessels in a fleet, convoy or battle group and defend them against smaller, powerful, short-range attackers.

The Heavy Drek Destroyer is already at the forefront of modern naval technology, but with the Mk VII NEAN, that forefront just got moved.

The "Jack of all trades" is the most coveted ship in the Navy. and the Mk VII takes the cake with flying colors. Able to perform in any situation, she has range, speed, firepower, and now thicker armor to take care of any situation.

Differences between the Mk IV and VII include a total armor redesign, making it much stronger and able to survive several direct SRB hits. The cockpit is also better armored and both the fore and aft sections can be separately controlled in the event of the ship breaking in half. She also has an extra 400L of fuel for slightly longer range, although the interplanetary ring (by Spartwo) is still needed to reach the outer planets. Also used for the first time on a production spacecraft is the NEAN (Nuclear Engine, Aerospike Nozzle) Engine. This engine combined the efficiency of an Nuclear engine with the power of an Aerospike, providing the Heavy Dreks with good maneuverability for the first time. The Mk VII keeps the open forward view and good lighting for night operations. At 57 tons she's much heavier than the Mk IV, but she is much more maneuverable than her older sister. As with the Mk IV, the Mk VII has a jr docking port that has to be used to control the ship, but this does not affect the ship in any combat way.

The missiles can fire chain or seperately. They can be fired from the ship as a "dumb" straight shot missile (accurate range 1000 meters max, best firing range 200 to 400m) or as a player controlled "smart" missile (accurate range 5-10KM, best firing range 200 to 1000m). They go AFT > MID-AFT > MID-FWD > FWD > from in order from closest to attachment point to closest to exit of ship.

Action Groups (Engine controls bolded):

1: Toggle solar panels

2: Toggle Nuclear engine

3: Fire Missile 1 (FWD)

4: Jetteson Missile Decoupler (FWD)

5: Fire Missile 2 (MID-FWD)

6: Jetteson Missile Decoupler (MId-FWD)

7: Fire Missile 3 (MID-AFT)

8: Jetteson Missile Decoupler (MID-AFT)

9: Fire Missile 4 (AFT)

0: Jetteson Missile Decoupler (AFT)

Gear: Toggle Aerospike Engine

The current ships of the "Heavy Drek" class are:

Hornet

Scorpion

Black Widow

Wasp

Killer

The ship is still brand new and has not seen combat yet, but Captain Bob of Hornet at firing tests commented that

This is leaps ahead of the Drek Mk IV and lightyears past anything else out there! The combination of speed, agility, armor, and large armament makes the ship unparalleled. I'd gladly fly one against Hanland today if i could!

While it doesn't come with a launcher yet, there will probably be one soon.

I hate this feeling that I need to build something for this page but everything I try to build winds up being overly large and likely impossible to get into space (replaceable parts, extra weapons and a lot of fuel, double layers of armor, and barely any knowledge in lifting heavy objects into space)

I'm also not liking my account being wiped back in April and being too lazy to set everything up again

So basically, the Drek is a mobile torpedo tube, designed to wreck the day of far larger ships than itself.

Yeah, after reading this comment, I'd say it's an extremely long range torpedo boat by function. A destroyer (IMO, of course) should have lighter armament not designed to blow up extremely well armored and heavy ships, but lots of lightly armored ones. The heavy armor and low T/W doesn't fit that model, though. Those are more cruiser-like. Crew-wise, it's obviously a fighter, and crew accommodations-wise, it's definitely short-range. But it's probably a very effective vessel in gameplay mechanics, the way KSP works.

Also, to the guys that don't want to go through extensive weapons testing, might as well say this here: after more than a couple of hours lost myself, I have concluded that the most effective round is a pocket I-beam powered by four separatrons and spin-stabilized. It will penetrate a couple of layers of armor, knock stuff away, and it is very, very light. So much so, it is capable of going through armor without blowing it up. Also capable of very short range effective shots. I'd say that's the perfect ammo for a destroyer. SRB's probably do more secondary damage, though, but those are plainly capital ship rounds.

Hint: for building rounds, I do that in the VAB (where I can do radial symmetry), and then save them as subassemblies for integration in the SPH.

Rune. This thread has turned into KIDI 2.0.

Yep, Imho, It fits better into cruisers than destroyers as it's an anti-capital ship (I'd say its too big and slow to be a torpedo bomber), in the traditional sense it would be targeted by destroyers. i was messing around with one earlier, they are annoyingly hard to neutralize, they come apart fairly easily but you still have the problem of each missile effectively being its own ship, despite intercepting and destroying most of the ship with a fighter the damn thing was still able to cripple my capital ship (lesson learned; keep shooting the probes):

I decided revenge was in order so I reloaded the quicksave and spammed spacebar, Face the wrath of the Hyperion:

Damn, that was fast! Looks awesome, is it standalone or are you planning on adding to it?

RE:First post I absolutley hate guided missiles.IMO it takes away the element of luck. Also you found the weak point of all Dreks.

It's a VTOL landing pad some way of transporting crew to areas on the water. Will get round to adding jets and other small details soon. But it's a standalone.

EDIT:No not all round just the spot a little ahead of the docking ports.I'll take a stake in that.

So...You were saying.

b4iKGME.png

(Survived 3 direct hits before this.3 as in 3 rods)

1s2nfzW.png

(10(7 hit 3 missed) in from identical range and angle to the Drek.Not..a..scratch)

BTW the weakspot on the Bayonet is the probe core booping out of the armor.

EDIT:That being said the hyperion was also very hard to break.

Spartwo, yes its sticking out but that's cause its more of a distraction (plus I couldn't get it in line, tube is too thin).

Next version will be even thinner and better armored.

Also yeah your ships are very well armored. I tip my hat to you. You are the reason I carry shipkillers as standard amament. Your fighter and cruiser go down with one and two missiles, respectively.

Edit actually I've found the 6-way adapter is the weak spot... But I just got a plan to fix that.

Reading this and all I can think of is the game battleship.

Just thinking of battleship, why has no one made a battleship yet, I mean we have destroyers, tankers, torpedo boats, cursers, etc... but no battleship classes. A good battleship class could turn the tide of any battle weather it be for spiritwolf or hanland
