Hanland, you are doomed. Meet the new E-Class Destroyer.

This thing just shrugged off a 2.5 ton missile going 200 m/s. It's double armored (legitimately, the armor is 1.5m apart). And most important, it carries 16 Minimissiles and 2 shipkillers. 71 tons.

One problem: it's 490 parts.

much like modern times, the destroyer is a light ship with the firepower of a capital ship. :D so i guess were following historical development of warfare. as weapons get deadlier and smaller, it's the smaller ships that win over the big ones.

I couldn't help but notie that the R&D companiess on this forum have been lax in their research so i created my own little company to remedy this:

Company name: Armegedon Weapon Testing Labs Ltd.

Company bio: After years of idly developng things for big brands like 'Rockomax' and 'Spaceship Parts Co.', a band of engeneers began developing things for space programs, using old parts to make new modules!

Allegiance: none, just parts...

no part at the moment, but i think i'm on the verge of creating replacable hull segments and ion pulse torps... ;)

I have been looking on this thread for a while and have notices the lack of support vessels. Although I have not looked at all 119 (as of when I type this) pages, what I have seen mostly seems to be military craft. I have come on behalf of Recreational Spacecraft Incorporated (RSI, not to be confused with Roberts Space Industries) to remedy this with the Starliner Advanced model. If you would like to learn about the history of the Starliner Advanced consult the in-game description.

Also, for the record, we don't have a particular allegiance and will sell to whoever wants to buy. That said, I don't think that Hanland would have much use for this particular craft given its non-military nature.

The Starliner Advanced is basically a passenger transport. It has 24 PD-10 hitchhiker storage containers, 12 PD-12 cupola modules and 4 MK 2 lander cans for a total absolute maximum kerbal capacity of 116 kerbals, but it would be a bit of a tight fit. The exterior hatches of all the modules lead to an enclosed area with doors at the "top". The cupolas, aside from having a very nice view, also give the craft enough reaction wheels to turn without RCS even though it weighs 230~ tons. The internal tanks (equivalent to 3 Large orange tanks) can hold about 2,500~ delta V of fuel, so it could theoretically get to Laythe on its own but if you want to have fuel to use once there you might want to dock an external Fuel tank to The single large docking port on the front. You should note that the engines cannot take directly from tanks docked to docking ports so you will have to transfer fuel to the built in tanks manually. Now, lest you get bored with all this techno babble and wander off, here are some pictures of the interior.

You should be warned that the part count does not quite fit in the 300 restriction. At launch the part count is about 1,150. The good news is that a lot of this is launch vehicle and the final part count is only about 400. This craft is also completely unarmored. In some places there is only a one inch piece of metal between the habitation areas and the exterior. It is also not made to have weapons but it does have docking ports that they could cling to if you want. Ok, more pictures. These are the doors that allow entry and exit from the craft. They are bound to action group 0.

This is pretty neat and all but the Starliner Advanced has another trick up its sleeve.

Yes that is a hangar and yes there is a shuttle pod in it. The hangar even has fully functioning doors (bound to action group 9):

Inside the hangar is one medium docking port and two tiny docking ports. The hangar is 4 meters wide by 4 meters wide by 5 meters deep. Take note though that the entrance is only 3 meters square.

You may also notice that there are a total of 8 MK 1 fuselages with jet fuel. These are for refueling shuttle craft (more on those in another post).

To get this goliath to orbit you will have to be careful. First select one of the control modules that is facing up so as to get an accurate navball reading. It is best to start your gravity turn at about 12,000 meters. At this point you only want to tilt 10 degrees to the east. Then when you reach 25,000 meters turn another 10 so you are facing 20 degrees east. When you reach about 35,000~ turn eastward so you are pointing 40-45 degrees east. then at about 50,000 point towards your orbital prograde until your apoapsis reaches the desired height. Then just glide up to your apoapsis and round out the orbit.

This launch vehicle makes heavy use of asparagus staging. As soon as you see a pair of fuel bars empty and a pair of engines shut off stage to drop them. Another tip; when you drop the first set of tanks you may notice that they are slightly uneven and one will run out a fraction of a second before the other. To get around this make sure you stage just before the first one runs out. It is vital that you get this timing right. If you stage too early then the tanks will still have enough fuel in them that when you release them they will go up and potentially damage the rest of the rocket. If you stage too late the problem will carry over to the next set of tanks.

After you have dropped all but five of the tanks and engines the remaining engines are all able to take fuel from all the tanks. The equipment to drop them is still there but they have been hooked up so that even the empty ones can take fuel from the full ones. The engines will still drain one pair of tanks before the other so if you want to drop them you can wait for that pair to empty and then decouple but I would recommend keeping them around for the extra thrust.

Once you get to orbit I find it easier to just right click the decoupler to decouple it instead of using the staging. Take note that the starliner's fuel tanks are totally dry. Their fuel was pumped into the launch vehicle to decrease weight. If you want you can transfer some of the remaining fuel in the launch vehicle to the starliner. It will still need a large tanker to completely fill it though.

The Ixian Commercial Fleet ...

The Ixian Group is an old corporation renowned for mergers and acquisitions in the construction, scientific and food industries. Ixian corporate is known for developing and applying some of the best manager training programs and business intelligence systems known. Consumers love Gravioli Surprise, a popular line of tasty instant meals known to positively hold down hunger for a long time, an Ixian Micro-Aquaculture (IMA) product. Aerospace and heavy industry acquisitions last decade resulted in the establishment of the Ixian Commercial Fleet (ICF) seven years prior to the recent conflict in space. The ICF sells mission space, cargo transport, tourism, and exploration services via space train convoys known as Tradestars. The Delos series of mobile outpost, Ionia type ion drive shuttle pod, and Fire Fly utility droid are all models used by many other industires - often delivered to distant parts of the system by Tradestar.

Ixian efforts in space have been non-military in the past and they have relied on contract security firms to guard their Tradestar convoys. Just prior to the public knowledge of hostilities between Sprit Wolf and Handland the Tylo incident occurred. A major Tradestar on route to Tylo and guarded by Handland was lost to piracy. An insurance investigation verified piracy and cleared both Ixian and Handland cases with no charges but the party behind the apparent hijacking was not brought to light. Though details of the lost convoy are not generally known it was system wide news when the ICF recalled all of their vessels and exercised safety suspension clauses in almost every contract. They also exercised termination clauses across a wide range of projects and contracts involving Handland and strangely went unchallenged by Handland in doing so. Those events have largely been overshadowed by news of battle and related current events.

Today a massive media campaign revealed the upcoming re-launch of the Tradestar fleet with impressive new Athena class hardware. Ixian technology is known to be very advanced and modular, given the nature of their space train convoys. From unknown sources they seem to have developed a number of advanced military grade vessels that parallel the hit kerbalvision space-crime-and-espionage drama Kerbalstar Nebula. Even their familiar products such as the Delos outposts have been upgraded with security in mind. In hindsight experts now speculate that the elaborate kerbalvision production was a smoke-screen for their R&D efforts in addition to being a valuable entertainment franchise.

There is the begining of my entry. Unfortunately I have to rework the launchers I am using into a universal reusable booster system and it is taking time. Probably be finished that sometime mid-week and will post craft files for the ICF Tradestar series then. Videos will follow shortly thereafter - the various ships in the convoy are all of size and mass that is pretty easy to get into orbit and beyond.

The ICF is a commercial fleet, so there is a focus on economics and business models worked in that will also receive treatment in a video and a page I have yet to do. For now I hope the infographics and backstory are enough to amuse.

I would also like to suggest an alliance: The ICF needs to licence an SSTO and a cruise missile design. The SSTO does not need to be long range, but it should be able to orbit and return to Kerbin at least twice (so two round min.) and be as light as possible for a 2 person crew. They would be an alternate attachment for the Delos Mobile Outpost in place of the 6 tactical space mines shown above. The cruise missile design should have a range of capabilities (space, precision ground strike, enough range to strike from outside a battle in an artillery fashion) and fit in the launch tubes of the Delos.

In return the ICF would be very cooperative, offer first option on cherry contracts, etc.

P.S. I have not yet even begun to master planes ... and both the SSTO and cruise missile have to have those plane parts on them ... like they have to "fly" with this thing called "lift" which I still struggle with as a new-ish player. Help would truly be appreciated and collaboration would be fun :)

got a question.why dosen't the engine fire if I also have the decopler on the same stage\ action group.

oh and an idea. drop pods

first make sure your throttle is up (i know it seems silly to say that but still)

second for your missiles i found having a probe body on the missile helps

I had some test runs on Asteria yesterday. It seems as if the armor is quite strong.

The recorded testrun was the second I did on this ship and it still withstood every hit. The first run was done from around 500m distance and I had assured that all missiles would hit. The second was the done closer to the target, so the hit could be seen.

I will do some final cleanup on the craft and then release the .craft file.

mind if I make a suggestion.

for you anti-ship missiles make them in the following order

docking port->decopler-> engine-> liqud fuel-> probe core-> docking port.

this way you can contol your missile better

i totally agree with your statement about being able to learn from the vangaurd, most of my battle cruisers weapons systems are derivatives of the weapons on the vangaurd, and other ships built by macey, but i like to have a variety of weapons on my ships, my most recent ship has 5 different types of weapons, from srbs to seperatrons on redial decoplers (my favoriet), to lv-t based missiles, to rcs smart torpeadoes, to torpedoes. each weapon has a different use, for example lv-t smart missiles can be used as long ranged weapons , capable of rendezvousing with other ships in completely different orbits, to hitting targets orbiting moons, i once even got one to work as an interplanetary capable salvo, but your timing has to be perfect. and rcs probes work great for orbital bombing and anti fighter, srbs for capital ships, and seratron/radial decoupler missiles for precision strikes and they are the best fighter based weapons i have seen so far, they can even be re-loadable if you are willing to put in the effort of the most tedious docking of your life. i usually just make all my fighters ssto's so i just land them and launch new ones, but many people have problems with space planes, especially ssto's. And an added advantage of mountaing your weapons on the exterior of your ship, is the intimidation factor.

External mounts are definitely a good design choice.

We certainly have a lot to thank Macey for. Just hope he is well.

@briansun1 ... sure, once you get them refined in stock parts I will integrate them. In the mean time I will think about how and where to do so. The Tradestar train system is pretty flexible but I may design a new module just for the drop pods. A new car on the space train so to speak.

Tetradic Labs is a developer of highly advanced space platforms with focuses on part efficiency and durability. Tetradic Labs's main objective is to build a massive Gravioli Resonance Field Generator in order to change Kerbol's gravitational field to a true inverse square law model. This would allow us to commence construction on a massive interstellar ship.

Now, Tetradic Labs is short on cash, so we're resorting to designing and producing space platforms for other corporations.

Our battle analysis of the Laythe incident suggests that the Mosquito fighter could use some serious improvements. And thus, we would like to unveil the Delta Drone:

This little platform packs enough fuel to make a trip from a carrier to a moon and back. The Delta Drone also boasts 3 Junior hardpoints which are ideal for a wide range of payloads. All this for a measly 36 parts.

The ultra light version replaces the shielded ports with regular ones and opts for lighter engine instead of the Aerospike.
