[1.0.5] TAC Life Support v0.11.2.1 [12Dec]

I'm just getting into life support and so far I really like TAC-LS. Using EL, I typically colonize moons in short order and used to imagine them to be self-sustaining but now I have to ensure that they actually are. I've seen biomass for food (and plan on getting it once it's updated), but are there any good mods for extracting water and oxygen or carbon dioxide from the atmospheres/crust/oceans of other planets and moons? Preferably using the new stock resource system if there are any in development for that. Thanks!

EDIT: Or asteroids too!

MKS integrates with TAC-LS with modules which will work for this purpose. It is a pretty hefty mod though with TONS of parts.

Not sure if this is on your side or not but have found incompatibtly with Modular Fuel Tanks v5.5.0 with MFT only the Lifesupport, Air filters, carbon extractors, sabatier recyclter, water purifier, water spliter containers are showing up, food, oxygen, waste, and water containers and the like are missing. It appears that the Universal storage versions are there.

Hey, I just ran into a problem. I'm running KSP 1.0.1, and as I try to start up the game, I keep getting a popup telling me that the version of KSP is unsupported. I have made sure that I have the latest version installed, but I have no idea what to do. Any suggestions?
The files have the version number inside them. Assuming the mod itself works fine, the update would just be changing that internal number to tell KSP it's all ok. I'm getting that alert with some .9 mods that still work (graphical mods are much less version sensitive)

I, too, am running into this problem, though I think I can offer a possible explanation. I just downloaded and installed v0.11.1.19 of this mod and am running it with a few other mods in KSP v1.0.2.842. I suspect that the version checker is simply getting hung up on the "....2.842" aspect.

I know that reporting this here means the author will look into this, but I'd care to ask for confirmation that this is a cosmetic-only error.

Otherwise, thanks for the awesome mod! This is the only life support mod I'll use.

TaranisElsu,

I love TAC LS and have used it since I bought the game in 23.5. With the advent of stock drills, would you consider in TAC LS making a mod for the refinery so it can convert ore to water and oxygen to refill tac ls tanks if you have not already done so?

Thanks

That is actually planned. I had started doing something with Kethane a long long time ago, but never quite got it working right.

Giggity, please don't forget this! I much prefer Kethane to the other resource mods, including nuStock.

Please check your pms, I sent you text to create a config file for the ISRU so you can convert ore into water and oxygen for TAC LS. I think others would want it so they can refill their life support off world. It was actually surprisingly easy to write.

Sooo, I want to sort of write a patch so that TACLS uses only one simple resource instead of three, and three waste resources. Why you ask? simplicity and the fact that most of the time I'll be working on the same ratios for life support.

Why not use one of the already several other existing mods? Because TACLS been here a long time, its more stable and more tested, providing a solid base for LS.

Due to the amount of people looking for a LS system, but wants something simpler than TACLS, I think there is a certain demand for this.

Someone wants to help me out? It should be simple enough to just change the default configs, and then apply patches for containers and etc.

Hey, while that is a great idea, it is already done several times. From Snacks to USI life support. You really need to find an unoccupied niche for another life support system.

Yeah thats what I've mentioned, there are already plenty other simpler LS systems, but TACLS still provides the better more stabler base, DLL, code and options. Not to mention plenty of parts and compatible mods.

I fully support this idea. If anything, I wish to contribute.

I recently tested the USI-LS mod with the Supplies/Mulch resources, and noted this:

-Perfect level of simplicity

-No support for Procedural tanks

-(User error)

With TAC-LS:

-Procedural tanks to store the resources

-Compatible with MKS/OKS and KSP-Interstellar

-Redundant Food/Water/Oxygen/CO2/Waste resources when two or three are needed at most: One consumable, one byproduct and one recyclable intermediary.

erm... MKS/OKS support USI-LS as the default... it would be very silly to make a life support mod and not support my own flagship colonization mod ;)

If I put a command pod, an RTG, a USI life support can and an MKS Pioneer module together, crew them all and hit 'start greenhouse'... the greenhouse does nothing, no snacks/mulch is produced and the kerbals survive for the default amount of time.

You, sir, are confusing user error with a bug/design choice and transforming it into misinformation.

Sounds like you did not have a base module attached to said MKS pioneer module which has the mulch storage on it. No storage, nothing to convert.

In the future, it probably makes more sense to report a potential issue in the relevant mod thread (either the MKS/OKS thread or the USI-LS thread) before spreading misinformation. First, to avoid polluting Taranis' thread with support stuff from other mods, and second, to avoid causing me support issues because of said misinformation.

Thanks

Please unquote me. Edited previous posts.

Is it still possible to turn off Kerbal respawning? If so how? I only see a respawn delay, nothing to actually shut this feature off.

A save editor or opening your save file with Notepad++ will allow you to edit the kerbal respawn option.

Yes, in the difficulty settings for the game, uncheck the option to respawn missing kerbals. Then, if your kerbals die from anything (including lack of LS), they are really dead. It is not necessary to make any adjustments to the config files.

Editing the save file is unnecessary, as I just mentioned.

Oh, and on most boards, going back and effectively deleting your post once it is part of an exchange is considered rude. Just saying. You might also consider simply the courtesy of apologizing to RoverDude instead of asking him to unquote you.

@TaranisElsu:

Regarding CTT compatibility:

I wanted to match as closely with the Universal storage equivalents of the carbon extractor & recycler etc which are in high-power electrics and specialised electrics, so might I suggest using those nodes?

This keeps the tech progressing along the same line in the CTT.

That's what I'm using on my game at the moment, I've just done a two-word change to your MM_TAC-LS_CTT.cfg to the following:

@PART[TacAirFilter|TacWaterPurifier|TacWaterPurifierLarge]:NEEDS[CommunityTechTree,TechManager]:AFTER[TacLifeSupport]
{
@TechRequired = largeElectrics
}

@PART[TacCarbonExtractor|TacCarbonExtractorLarge|TacSabatierRecycler|TacSabatierRecyclerLarge|TacWaterSplitter]:NEEDS[CommunityTechTree,TechManager]:AFTER[TacLifeSupport]
{
@TechRequired = specializedElectrics
}

I installed the neweset TAC-Version. Now i have massively Lags. The Performance of KSP is very bad. Without TAC there are no problems.

No log.

Well, if you don't have a log what do you expect us to do about it? Without a log we don't know what's causing it, could be the phase of venus for all we know.
