What if KSP was sold to EA?

That's way too much thought process, way too much choice, a man could drown in that much choice! It should be more like, "would you like to instantly appear on the Mun?" Yes/No.

Close, I think it'd be "Would you like to (pay to) instantly appear on the Mun?"

EA love their microtransactions...

Guys, keep it down, you might be giving EA ideas.

Anyway if EA bought out Squad as a company, within one week the whole system would have been transferred over to origin. People on the Web and steam would be left high and dry. The mods, QA testers and media group as well as the twitch channels will be disassembled and taken down to be replaced with their own set of mods.

Online DRM, DLC, sequels would follow. The devs would be worked to the bone and all communication between them and the outside world will disappear then after 3 months they are fired and the game handed over to one of EA's other studios.

A couple of die hard fans will rebel and try to create a KSP parody on kickstarter and now we are back at square 1.

I would never touch another computer game if KSP is sold to EA under our feet.

I remember back when i saw Westwood die and C&C get ruined in several ways, and expected and was right about Maxis taking the next hit, and then Bioware.

Back then in the early days EA had supporters and those that mourned Westwood were unheard, i suppose they still are, but as a very long-term (decade+) opponent of EA's methods it's good to finally see such an unanimous opposition to what they are doing today.

I miss Westwood. The C&C games lost their...fun, I guess? once they were 'saved'. They became serious games, with big budgets. The original Red Alert was hilarious in so many places because of the terrible accent of Einstein, etc.

It's a shame though, because EA did make good games once upon a time; the most obvious of which was Desert Strike, which was the first (IIRC) game to have a sense of inertia whilst flying - prior to this you would just stop dead when you released the controls.

They still make good game, it just seems like the management seems hell bent on getting every little penny out of people and the ensure that they don't lose money by putting outrageous DRM on there games (which from a managerial perspective makes perfect sense), if Sim City did not have the DRM, I would have been perfectly fine with it only because mods could fix everything that was 'wrong' about it.

PUUUHH-lease, Squad would NEVER sell out to EA... hell I truly believe that on hearing of the impending invasion of EA, Squad would take up arms and defend the source code until death in glorious battle.

1. Do I like DRM? No.

2. Do I like it that EA bashes WII U? No.

3. Do I like paying extra for DLC's and game perks? No.

4. Do I want Squad to sell out to EA? No.

However, I have enjoyed playing these EA games:

Arcticfox 1986

Abrams Battle Tank 1988

Sentinel Worlds I: Future Magic 1988

688 Attack Sub 1989

F-16 Combat Pilot 1989

Populous: The Promised Lands 1989

SimCity 1989

Starflight 2: Trade Routes of the Cloud Nebula 1989

Centurion: Defender of Rome 1990

Desert Strike: Return to the Gulf 1992

SimCity 2000 1993

Syndicate 1993

Wing Commander: Privateer 1993

Wing Commander: Armada 1994

Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom 1996

Wing Commander: Prophecy 1997

Jane's Combat Simulations - 688(I) Hunter/Killer 1997

Comanche 4 2001

SimCoaster 2001

Sub Command 2001

Battlefield 1942 2002

Delta Force: Task Force Dagger 2002

Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons of WWII 2003

Battlefield 1942: The Road to Rome 2003

Battlefield Vietnam 2004

Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault 2004

Battlefield 2 2005

Crysis 2007

Medal of Honor: Airborne 2007

Crysis Warhead 2008

Spore 2008

BattleForge 2009

Medal of Honor 2010

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 2010

Battlefield 3 2011

Bulletstorm 2011

Dead Space 2 2011

Shank 2 2012

Crysis 3 2013

So, would I buy another EA game? Yes, if it looks good and the reviews are good.

Bashing EA serves nothing IMO. If you don't want to buy an EA game because you think the Company sucks then that's your prerogative. For me I'm all about having gaming fun, even if it's from EA.

WIKI: Electronic Arts, Inc. (EA) is an American developer, marketer, publisher and distributor of video games. Founded and incorporated on May 28, 1982 by Trip Hawkins, the company was a pioneer of the early home computer games industry and was notable for promoting the designers and programmers responsible for its games. Electronic Arts is the world's third-largest gaming company by revenue after Nintendo and Activision Blizzard.

Everyone has a price*, everyone.

*price does not have to be a monetary amount, for example it could be services rendered, or a gift of some sort.

Just a side note, several of those games you list were not made or published while the parent company was under the control of EA. Example, Maxis was not under control of EA until 1997.

If EA brought KSP, I would, in order...

1. Rip the E and A keys of my laptop and burn them

2. Uninstall KSP

3. Take out my hard drive, smash it, and nuke the remains

4. Launch what's left into the Sun

As you can tell, I'm an extremest!

Or...

Cry in a corner.

Normal :D

Step one: Never update KSP again.

Step two: Hide in a corner all day crying.

Step three: Get a band of people together.

Step four: Arm said band of people with pitchforks and flaming sticks.

Step five: Set siege to every building EA have ever owned.

Step six: Kidnap whoever in EA decided to buy the rights to KSP.

Step seven: Force him to give the rights back to Squad.

Step eight: Launch him into space along with all the other space junk.

Step nine: Rejoice.

Step ten: Destroy the last of EA.

Step eleven: Print 3D models of Bob,Bill, and Jeb.

Step twelve: Have a party.

There's no point in doing that if the copy I have of KSP has never been touched by EA. Also it would be a wast of a half terabyte hard drive and if everyone destroys their hard drives EA will buy everyone company that sells or produces hard drives.

PUUUHH-lease, Squad would NEVER sell out to EA... hell I truly believe that on hearing of the impending invasion of EA, Squad would take up arms and defend the source code until death in glorious battle.

Do realize that Squad is an advertising company that randomly let a programmer who worked for them (Harv) pursue a project to make a game about a bunch of little green men making a space program because why not, only for the resulting game's popularity to explode. I'm not entirely sure how Squad is run and the actual scope of the larger company, and so far they've been pretty hands off with the games development. Of course, given that the company is probably publicly traded and appears to be fairly small, it would be trivial for EA to make a hostile takeover if they really wanted to for some reason, and since the rights to KSP don't belong the development team-unlike the rights to say Minecraft-the possibility of someone in the company's hierarchy getting greedy and selling them to a publisher for a quick buck and justifying it as "video games aren't our business" is a bit scary.

Of course, that's all conjecture, since I have no idea how Squad is actually run/how much control the development team has over the rights to the IP, and since Squad's website is in Spanish, I really can't be sure about what I'm saying, since its been a while since I took a class in that language. I also take heart in the fact that big publishers aren't particularly interested in anything outside the "mainstream" dudebro crowd's choice of games, which mainly consist of shooters, casual games, and sports games.
