Do you have any abandoned ships?

Pre 0.21 I had an abandoned ship in Kerbol orbit.

It was my first attempt to reach another planet, back when I had no idea what delta V even meant.

Yeah, I didn't get very far. Ran out of fuel just shortly after I escaped Kerbin.

I managed to rescue the crew much later on though, but there was nothing I could do about the ship. It had no docking ports.

Since 0.21 I have nothing abandoned anymore anywhere. Not even a single piece of debris.

I make it a point to deorbit everything now before it runs out of fuel. And add docking ports to everything. :sticktongue:

Let's see how long I can keep that up.

A band on ship? No, they all use tape players to listen to music. Musicians on a space ship would be kinda strange (imagine a Dixieland band on Apollo 11). :D

I usually try to bring my used munar landers back home to burn up in the atmosphere while the com pod takes the save route on a more shallow angle for splashdown. Most of my other vessels have probe bodies which makes them easier to de-orbit or classify them as 'debris'.

In .21, I have an abandoned lander on the Mun surface which was didn't have enough fuel to make it back into orbit. It's return stage is also in Munar orbit, I'm going to leave it up there in case I ever find myself running short on other missions.

Bill accidently got sent escape trajectory and is now orbiting the sun. I felt so bad about it, so stupid of me to run out of fuel. I couldn't take it anymore, him being out there. So I imagined he went insane, and had him jump out of the ship to float in space.

RIP BILL

I had a large, multi-part ship in a solar orbit when the crew just... lost it... they went insane and started leaving the ship to jet off into the blackness. Rumor has it that the ship ran out of fuel, and the crew leaving was a last ditch effort to reach one of the offworld colonies. None of them made it though. They vanished, without a trace. Even their transponders stopped working. The only evidence that they even existed was the names etched into the lockers on board the ship, and even those have become rusted and worn over time. It's been seven years now, and that ship is still out there... orbiting...

I had some troubles when i installed Ionocross - a distaster with KAS and that make that my Kerbollo mission's command module is now orbiting the Mun in multiple either non-controllable or propulsion-free parts. I now have three Kerbals trying to survive with only two spaces in the lander.

My Mars mission ship is abandoned with no fuel in a bizarre orbit around Kerbin. I keep meaning to go swap out the engine module with a better one and bring it into a proper "ready to go" orbit or even dock it at my space dock... but.. lazy.... and I will probably end up just making a new and improved ship that does not shake the way "galloping goose" did.

I guess along the lines of OPs creepy abandoned ships I had...something back in 0.20 that you could consider an abandoned/destroyed ship/base.

It was an ambitious project. A large Mun base that would land itself prefabricated on the moon and then drive around to reposition itself. With the help of Kethane it may have even been able to perform a rolling take off spaceplane style an return to Kerbin. Disaster (read: girlfriend aggro) struck as it ended up descending a bit too early on it's approach to the large flat area I selected. It clipped the top of a mountain range and lost two of its 3 habitation modules, killing all 12 kerbalnauts aboard. After bouncing off the ground and back up into the sky (Would it still be "sky" on the moon?) it lost a wing and yet another hab module that bounced a few times before finally exploding, killing another 6 brave crewmen. The 3 remaining pilots managed to set it down...roughly. It sat there on the mun broken into 4 pieces with a trail of debris stretching back nearly 2k to the top of the mountain.

A rescue mission was launched, which ended up failing thanks to a physics bug that cause it to glitch through the ground and then rocket back into space. This brings the death toll up to 19. The second rescue vessel managed to retrieve the 3 survivors of the initial mission, but sadly its parachutes were ripped away in Kerbin's atmosphere killing them in addition to the three rescue craft operators; in the end the original mission had no survivors. The death toll now stood at 25.

I ended up launching another Mun mission that was a much more mundane and and quite a bit less...deadly. The new base launched a two man rover team, which thanks to the kerbal attachment system now carried a mini autonomous rover with it. They were dispatched to look at the derelict and plant a flag at it's resting place. I stupidly used the mini rover to explore the the debris in more detail and eventually ended up driving into its open cargo bay (after trying to ramp myself over the robotic arm for 10 minutes) which somehow caused both the mini rover AND the cargo bay to explode. Which sent a flat structural panel flying and almost ended up destroying the manned rover.

Never went back there again. Part of me almost thinks the place was haunted by 25 Kerbalnauts who never made it home. And of course, Kerbal ghosts would manifest themselves by making things randomly explode or fail horribly. :D

Ah, damnit. Accidental necro. :l

I left a lander in orbit around Duna. I didn't know how much fuel I'd need to get home, so the lander is still in it's rendezvous orbit where it transferred the crew and all its fuel to the CSM.

I have an ion probe in orbit around the sun, which passes over and under pretty much every planet in the solar system including kerbin. It still has plenty of fuel and electrical power so i might try and rescue it. The sad part is i called it "litte billy".

I have one or two unmanned, crashed lander test designs on the Mun, and I did have a polar orbiting satellite around Kerbin as a proof-of-concept. I "ended mission" from the Space Center last night and orbited a replacement polar orbiting kethane sensor platform. Since .21, I haven't killed any Kerbals and I'm trying very hard not to start (hence the use of probes and remote-controlled ships to test designs).

I have a Mun lander stuck in Mun orbit with three Kerbals inside. It managed to land on the surface, but it ran out of fuel on takeoff and had to use RCS to get into orbit. I didn't feel like sending a rescue mission, so they are going to be staying there for a while.

In 0.20, I had an abandoned lander around Duna which was previously used to land 2 guys on the surface and rendezvous with their return vessel.

It's a damn good job I left it there though, because for a later mission I developed a tiny lander with just a command seat, it ran out of fuel and the guy had to use 70% of his EVA fuel to get into a stable orbit. I wasn't going to risk it and hope that the 30% would get him from a 60km orbit to the 500km orbit of his return ship. And I foolishly left his return ship without an unmanned pod, so despite having lots of fuel it couldn't swing by and pick him up. Luckily the abandoned lander was a lot closer, so he was able to rendezvous with that and fill up his EVA fuel to return to his return capsule :)

I also have probes and stuff on the surface of a few planets that I know I'll never check in on again, so I guess they're abandoned :P

Aliens attacked my Minmus base. It remains there, but everyone had to evacuate. It is said that they can no longer go to Minmus for a while as it is high in radioactivity. Probes have been sent there to see the area and it is damaged bad, with several 'dead' kerbals lying there, parts everywhere and some in orbit (when I say some, I mean Minmus has rings now).

i have abondoned two rockets in orbit around eve ready for interplanetary (~9k dV) but as i developed newer versions of it i left them decommissioned, i have 1 2man can lander on minmus i sent it as a rescue mission to pick up Bill and Jeb, but after landing it i remmebered that i saved them one day before :DDDD

there is 2 decommissioned rovers on mun one got replaced with updated version and has minor damage and secon as well. All of them are still functioning i hope they might get some uses later on or just enrich my environment.

A few of mine, mostly from before 0.21 (and therefore wiped from existence):

JoolMission-05MinerAccident_zpsfa3ff0ba.png

My very first kethane miner at its first (and last) landing site. Forgot to turn on symmetry while placing fuel lines, which made the entire descent extremely tricky for reasons which should be obvious.

RoverMission06-SadTrombone_zps64653eef.png

My very first Mun rover, which landed in a very unroverlike fashion.
