Is that possible... KSP becomes a multi-language game?

Someone asked that question before, IIRC Skunky replied and said it was planned. They're waiting before doing it because the game UI changes too often and too easily and they'd have to continually change it in multiple languages and that would become heavy, so they wait until everything stabilizes.

exactly, I think it's much more viable to do language translation once the game hits beta or is close to release

What I'm wondering is how many languages are planned and whether double-byte character is supported.

Considering the early stage of development, I don't believe anything is currently planned on that subject. I could be wrong though, but it seems unlikely that the devs would've taken the time to plan what languages they would add to the game already :P

wouldn't be hard to translate it... it's just text...

But what you would not want to be doing as a developer is translating and re-translating every build you did as you were developing the game. All your time would be spent translating rather than making the game. I'd do it at the end just before release.

I have experience with this in my job, and the internationalization is the last thing you do. It's not particularly hard, but it's annoying if you have to repeatedly do the same thing over and over.

yes and no. You lay out the infrastructure early so you don't have to replace thousands of string constants with lookups into resource bundles later), then add additional languages at a late stage.

it's not just text. It's planning to be bidirectional, multi-byte character sets, etc.

While replacing English with say German or French is not that hard, making the same work with Arabic or Japanese is a lot more work.
