Newbie tutorials that are up to date?

Hi,

are there some updated tutorials for total newbies somewhere?

I tried the inbuilt training, but that is not of much help in my opinion. The one about building rockets just told me how to put 3 parts together nothing about why etc.

Am I right in assuming that there is no manual available?

I checked out YouTube and those that I found are pretty old. All the new ones assumes that you know what you are doing already and cover very complex stuff for someone like me

I am looking for something that can take me through building a reasonable rocket, and take it into orbit and back. Next step would be to go orbit the Mun or something.

I am looking for explanations on not only what to do, but also why I do it...

Any pointers to reasonably up to date tutorials (youtube or elsewhere) for this?

There are no manuals in the game because it's not complete yet. As for tutorials, I've updated most of mine.

I found them very helpful, watching those alone should cover ship-building, landings, orbits, returns, getting to the Mun/Minmus - pretty much everything you need to get on your feet in the Kerbin area.

Johnno beat me in recommending the wiki tutorials. I will say start with Basic Rocket Design, then go to Intermediate Rocket Design and then skip ahead to Sputnik. The historical tutorials teach a lot (aside from ISS; it's not complete).

Pebblegarden's channel on YouTube has many videos that are still timely and relevant for the current version. The Phoenix Project was recorded in 18.4 but it's all still accurate for .21. The only thing that really changed is how SAS works, and that doesn't affect the lessons. If you watch and follow the videos, you will learn how to build a solid, steady and reliable rocket; how to make an ascent to orbit; how to rendezvous with another craft or station; and how to dock with it.

When you've got the hang of the basics, the next series to watch is Mission to Minmus, where PG will show you how to build a lander; make a lifter to carry it into orbit; how to get to Minmus and make a landing; and how to return safely.
