The official unofficial 0.22 discussion thread

Some of us may still remember the good old times when we had 0.17 official disscusion thread and there were devs (mainly NovaSillisko) teasing us with new stuff and was place for disscusion about the next version in general. So,I wanted something simmiliar to happen with 0.22. So here go,just don't make it a flame war or derail it please. Also,that "official unofficial" is a joke,It is not a official one supported by Squad or anything like that.

I love now that the science bits actually have a use and gives us a reason to do a lot of things. Also i saw somewhere that processing will be improved so bigger ships will be nice. Has there been any word on any changes to docking? It would be nice to rotate after docking and if you are docking at a few different points but some havent docked after others have that you can force a docking rather than undocking totally and trying to get all 3 docked at once.

More parts, more stuff to do, better performance, this update will be nice. The Space Center update is also looking pretty epic.

I'm also going to create a save where I see how much I can do without advancing my tech tree.

I'm not familiar with the Docking bug, please expalin to me what happens.

From what I understand, basically one docking port understands that it's docked, but the other one doesn't realize it's docked, so clicking on "undock" on the bugged port doesn't do anything since it doesn't think there's anything to undock from, and the other docking port doesn't give me the option to undock.

This resulted in...problems since I was using TAC Life Support and the station only had 60 days of life support, and thus "Just leave them up there" wasn't really an option, so I tried seeing whether the parachute deployment near the end of reentry would detach the capsule from the station.

It certainly did. Along with the parachutes ripping themselves off the capsule.

One question, does the science part include sample return / analyze? Got the feeling the science bay was to conduct experiments in orbit but it might be used on Mun and other places to.

From what they said, the science parts does the experiment and you can either send the data through antennas or bring it back to Kerbin.

Is it confirmed that the existing science parts are part of the new science system?

For the antennas yes they will be useful, not sure about the other sensors, I would guess/hope so.

I'm just hoping for some performance optimizations soon. I know my PC isn't exactly a gaming rig persay, but damn this is rough. I know it's running an entire solar system, so I can imagine that it's pretty tough.

They have been working on optimizations. And if they manage to get unity 4.2 (we did not had update for a while about it), it should resolve some unity bug/performances too.

I don't really like the way the dev cycle is taking place, since we are in an alpha and the devs are destinating more time to polish the game than to release new content. 2 month long updates work almost-perfectly but run out of content barely 3 or 4 hours after you start playing, when it should be the exact opposite.

I'm not hyped at all for 0.22.

I can't wait for all the features, particularly the science, sample return, and sub-assemblies. It seemed like just yesterday I was excited over landing on the moon for the first time in .17, but noobs in .22 can plant flags, collect samples, and do science in ways I wish I could during my first missions!

I'm really pumped for the science modules and sub assemblies! Not forgetting the R&D building of course, it will be awesome! Too bad I'm going to have to de-orbit my space stations that are doing "research" to make way for the new features :c

You do realize that the devs ARE releasing new content. If you don't count R&D and sub assemblies as new content, then I don't know what's your definition of content. As you remember, or you have never heard off, the developers are focusing on bringing us career mode so we can have challenge added into the game.

You know, you remind me of every single whiny player in every single video game forums on the internet. Instead of whining, you should thank the developers for giving us this really awesome game!

This is exactly the kind of entitled attitude that I hate seeing in game communities. The game is nearing completion. The game isn't even really considered alpha any more, it's more like a beta, or as the devs call it, "sandbox complete". The reason the ratio of polish to new content is biased toward polished is because there isn't much left to add. This isn't going to be like Minecraft with constant updates. Once the game is done, it's done.
