I found a slight glitch with this mod. Don't worry, it's just my old graphics card causing the glitch. I've had similar issues in stock KSP since 0.21.1 where the re-entry effects wouldn't work. The ship just turned into the same colour as the clouds.

Had the same issue with the latest release.

So how does that end of the month release look? If it's no longer a possibility then that's perfectly fine. I'm just wondering.

Considering I'm out of town this weekend, not good. It will probably be one more week.

It seems that the problem is in the fact that you have multiple cloud layers.cfg files in BoulderCo. My guess is that nothing will work because of that. So it might help to only have Astronomer's cfg in there, and to leave out the others.

Didn't seem to fix it.

Few things I'm wondering. Is there a graphics setting for the game itself I need to activate that isn't default?

I saw one or two screenshots showing some sort of contextual menu in game for this mod to tweak settings, I thought. Maybe I was confused.

I wish someone with a working game data folder would just upload it, or rather I wish the plug just came that way rather than moving the files by hand. I don't understand what's so different about the way my files are set up that produces such different results. I have a 27in iMac Quad 2.8, 12GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 5750. Is anyone with a similar setup running the astronomer pack to full effect?

I don't know how I did it, but somehow I managed to break the city lights.

Everything was working fine, until at one point the city lights became misaligned with the terrain, I even landed in the sea because I though I was landing on the surface.

I didn't think to take a picture of when it happened, but now the city lights have disappeared completely, even after a re-install.

Strangely though, the clouds haven't been affected

EDIT: Never mind they just fixed themselves.

sometimes, for some reason, the city lights just won't show up in the Tracking Station at the start of the game load. But if you go back after viewing a vessel in flight you'll find the lights working again.

I searched the thread and never found this question directly, so ill venture out to ask it. Sorry if its already been answered. But how much does this mod affect performance? I have terrain on low and redering on low with textures on high, and i hit yellow timer at about 80 parts looking at the sky. Would adding this blow up my computer?

It would be a good improvement to do a multi-staged conversion of the clouds into a non-particle set:

Really close: Particle grid.

Close but not in the clouds: Terrain-like Height-Map

Reasonable Distance: Parallax Map

Further: Normal Map

Even Further: Flat

Generally I would recommend making sure you are a reasonable distance away before switching to parallax map. I would place this point around 43,000 because most people don't fly in that range for extended periods of time, thus you won't have z-fighting. The normal map change needs to be placed where there is no longer significant shift due to parallax mapping, and flat needs to be at minimum quality.

I was thinking another texture enhancement technique that could be introduced would be to add parallax maps to the terrain at a distance to supplement for lower triangle map sizes. This could actually be used to dramatically speed things up by reducing triangle map detail in a lot of places.

If you want, I can add these two suggestions over to GitHub. The second suggestion may work better on the Texture Compression mod, though.

Offering to place on github feature request.

NathanKell is correct, but I would add that if you're close to the RAM limit (3.5-3.9 GB) when using KSP, this might put you over the edge and cause some crashes.

But you can get the Active Memory Reduction mod (link) to compress textures to free up RAM.

Hey, a question about the overhauls:

How can I save my configs? When I click save the settings just disappear from GUI, and there's nothing in the config for saving info like colour, fall off power and fall off scale.

Also what is the 'scaledOverlay = Geometry' bit about? Is there some way I can make a continuous cloud layer from ground level to 20km for an atmosphere?

Just wondering can you have both astronomers pack and profits pack on the same save?

yes, but they are mostly mutually exclusive which means you will have to go in and pick and choose what you want to keep from both packs in terms of textures and cloud configs

is there a way to turn off clouds in map view? i followed the link in the first post but i cant find anything

Alt-N, then click "delete" once for each cloud layer.

I know this offhand because I've been testing my Eve lander. :D
