[0.25]Odysseus STS Block V - Accurate Stock Space Shuttle (Over 2000 Downloads!)

Very impressive. :) You might be able to put something in geosynchronous orbit with that.

That sounds like an annoying bug. I've never experienced that. When do they "forget" their thrust limiter setting? Do they still adjust properly in symmetry?

More accurate cutoff speed (with 5 ton payload):

I had to attach the boosters individually because of the symmetry bug. Everything should be working fine now, but some of the clipped boosters are a bit misaligned, and I'm too lazy to fix it.

Could you explain what you did with the fuel lines there?

The fuel lines on both tanks feed into a non-fuel cross feeding part, which then feeds into the orbiter. It is crucial to stop the fuel flow between the tanks first (with a part between the nodes) or else only one tank would drain at a time.

This shuttle is so beautiful! And 100% solid boosters? Maybe those new SRB's are useful after-all.

Yeah, they work well with a little trickery and cleverness. The good kind, of course. ;)

I REALLY wish they would have introduced a new size -- 1.875 meters -- for the new boosters. HGR (Home Grown Rocket parts) has it and it works quite well. The other reasons are it's quite close in proportions to 4.2 meter parts (again, 4.125 would make sense and should have been used rather than 3.75 meters, it's more closely proportional to the S-IVB stage and SLS/STS core stages). They could also work well core the core stage of a Soyuz rocket.

Anyways, didn't mean to get off topic Giggleplex, sorry. 1.25 is actually the right size with a 2.5 meter ET (1.875 boosters and a 4.125 ET would be good, with bigger space plane parts). You've done a fantastic job on this and the new improvements only make it better!! :)

Nice new shuttle, Giggleplex! I might try to engineer a reusable door (instead of the panel) if you want.

You can modify the shuttle how ever way you like. I took the easy path and made a panel to lower the part count. The original shuttle had a reattaching door, but it didn't really work.

BTW, look at the spec bump!

Specs (v2.0):

Max capacity: 4 mT to 80km orbit

Total thrust at launch: 2155 kN

Combined thrust of boosters: 1582 kN

  • Thrust of each booster: 791 kN

Combined thrust of SSMEs: 573 kN

  • Thrust of SSME: 191 kN

Specific impulse of SSME: 376s

Orbiter mass: 20 mT fueled

Specs (Block III):

Max capacity: 5 mT to 200km orbit

Total thrust at launch: 3422.7 kN

Combined thrust of boosters: 2821.2 kN

  • Thrust of each booster: 1410.6 kN

Combined thrust of SSMEs: 601.5 kN (105% thurst)

  • Thrust of SSME: 200.5 kN (105% thurst)

Specific impulse of SSME: 375s

Orbiter mass: 20 mT fueled
