AlkalinePorcuipine
Hi forum,This is my first post, i felt I had to share this thing I found on Minmus today. I understand it´s probably old news for the grizzled ksp old hands but I thougt it was pretty cool.So i´m zipping around Minmus with my lander peacefyully collecting science when I see this huge purple ball just sitting there on the surface, this had to be explored more closely! Said and done, Jeb was sent out on an EVA trip:And he was awestruck at exactly how huge this thing was! There was no novel science to be done around (or in the) big purple ball, but it was still a really cool experience. Does anyone know what this is actually?
Specialist290
At the very least, it's new to me. You wouldn't mind sharing the coordinates for the lander (if it's still there), would you?
Mr.Rocket
Never seen it before, or even heard of it, where is is?Could you stand on it, or was it just a bug?Is it photoshopped, because that would make me sad?
Raikoutrio
If this is true, you've discovered an Easter egg for the first time! However, I can't shake the feeling that I would have seen something like that.
sal_vager
Is it still there after you restart KSP?
Kasuha
Isn't that a whack-a-kerbal object?
TheDarkStar
I'm interested to know what this is.
Panzerbeard
Something that large should easily be visible from orbit; I'm calling bug on this.
Daddy Cecil
Looks like ground scatter gone wrong. Also note the purple-black checkerboard typical of "missing textures." Can we get your system specs? I suspect it is a graphics issue.
Klingon Admiral
Might be a bug with the ground scatter from the looks of it.
trbinsc
Looks exactly like the markers from the gamma ray spectrometer in the KSP Interstellar mod.https://github.com/FractalUK/KSPInterstellar/wiki/Gamma%20Ray%20Spectrometer Edited January 13, 2014 by trbinsc
FlamedSteak
Looks like a bug to me, I've pretty much scoured Minmus the past few weeks and I'm certain I would've spotted something this big from orbit.

The object is HUGE and its color is very different from Minmus. It would be very visible from orbit, even pretty high up.
Scotius
Aren't markers in KSPI visible only during flight? I've seen one of them near KSC, but only from the air. Anyways, i think it's just a terrain bug.
Thomas988
I've never heard of this!Coordinates, please!
Richy teh space man
I'm curious to know either way what the score is. I'm tempted to think it's a mod or some kind of glitch.

Anyways, i think it's just a terrain bug.It could equally be a KSPI bug where the markers appear when near to them.
Wallace
Aren't markers in KSPI visible only during flight? I've seen one of them near KSC, but only from the air. Anyways, i think it's just a terrain bug. They should do, but if there was a bug so that one appeared when on the ground, that's exactly what it would look like. Alternate explanation: Ground scatter model has an error and is replaced by some kind of default object in the engine which happens to be a sphere, and default size happens to be huge. Considering the itty bitty eggs found, a purple monstrosity like that would be unlikely to be missed until now. Also, it's hardly in keeping with the usual kind of eggy thing. spikeyhat09
what if squad created a super secret second version of the ksp client, with only 1 key difference - that giant obvious easter eggs would be scattered throughout the system. then the client is only downloaded once per every 1,000,000 downloads from the website 0.
katateochi
Far from being old news I think the "grizzled ksp old hands" are intrigued. I agree with those who've suggested it's probably a bug. Are you using any mods OP?
Astronaut
This is a bug, Minmus is so tiny you would spot that from orbit or find it easily.
