i have a big question: has someone an idea how the soviets have solved teh problem with the center of mass and center of lift with the Buran-Energija design? the US spaceshuttle used to gimbal the eninges ... but buran? the buran was only a payload for the energija.

The Energia was actually a super heavy lift launch vehicle designed for different payloads, but was canceled after the first flight of the Buran.

giggle ... i know the Energija :P i was asking how teh soviets launched it with teh Buran without tipping over 5 seconds after launch and crashing into the ground :D

Aerodynamics, I suppose. I've heard that making shuttle-type vehicles is much easier in FAR/NEAR than in the stock game.

Real rockets have much larger gimbal ranges than KSP, often 6 times as much than KSP and sometimes more!

right!

and i found a launchvideo of Energija with Poljus. you can see the tumbling of the rocket moments after liftoff, before it flys straight into the sky ... i guess the gimbal was working here to counter the center of mass shift.

Work on the Saturbo V continues.

I wish there was some way to get a picture of a craft without perspective messing things up. Just a flat image.

Try using the VesselView plug-in with RasterPropMonitor. You can go into IVA and look at an orthographic view of your craft. :)

That sounds handy. I'll give it a shot! I also vaguely remember there was a tool that could take craft files and somehow show a flat view of them, and I think also an exploded view. I may have imagined it though. Something like that would be really awesome.

I might have been thinking of this:

[Edit]

Here's the VesselView tool wireframe compared to a diagram of the real thing:

Very interesting! I can use this to tighten things up visually!

Trying (and failing) to get this thing launched. It performs in space well and I can land it easy enough. (flies like a brick)

I just can't get the balance right for both the SRBs and the main tank when they detach. :/

Try manually adjusting the thrust of your main engines with the thrust-limiter whilst flying

Hmm someone want to give me an opinion on this thing, idk if i want to make an SSTO version, takes a long time to build one of these VTOL's

If you are wondering it is hypersonic, why i like the design the part that hurts is i need to start from scractch because this design only holds 1800 LF and no O

The thing i want is to be able to land one of these on the moon lol.

It's a plugin called KronalUtils. It allows you to take orthographic shots of your craft in the VAB/SPH. Development of the plugin has been discontinued by its creator, but the license would allow anyone to pick it up and run with it. Here's a link:

KronalUtils

It's awesome, get it now!

That is awesome.

Oh yeah, and the rocket is cool too ;-D

Almost reminds me a bit of that manned-Lunar-landing rocket x-]

J.K. it looks quite improved since your earlier variant from a few months ago.

Judging by it's size... it doesn't go just to the Mun, does it? o _ o

One of these days ya'll is gonna infect me with that replica-enthusiasm.
