Work-in-Progress [WIP] Design Thread

You mean the door at the back of the payload bay? I abuse how bendy the LV-1R's are (the tiny radial engines), and mount a couple of them on top of each other as hinge. Then I push on them with landing gears. Soulreaver actually does that much better than I do, so perhaps you should look up his threads (he usually starts them with "Reapers Dutch Designs" or something like that I think).

Rune. You can also use Klaws, and actually I know that method better.

No I meant the tips of the wings far left and far right side of the right and left wings.

Oh, that one is easy then, the wing is done in sections and I angle them each piece up and down with the SHIFT+WASD keys. They move stuff in 5º increments, by the way.. But the next version will bring some new tools for that I think. Perhaps even a building tutorial. I also made the forward swept by attaching a delta wing to the already built back side.

Rune. But going by post count, you should know this already.

No it looked like in the pictures that the wings were bent more at first, and got straighter later.

What does everyone think about the new gizmos? I think they should allow even greater control over aesthetics.

Max's explanation of gizmos starts around 49:00.

The translation gizmo and the re-root gizmo's going to be very useful. As for the rotation gizmo, if it allows you to rotate to any angle (instead of snapping to every 5 degrees), it may replace PAD.

The fact that the part is always attached when using the gizmos can make complex build a lot easier. Say for example you want to shift a wing a bit, but it is clipped into mess of parts. Instead of having to take every part off just to move the wing, you can just use the gizmo.

I wonder if you can just place a part out side of a complex assembly and then translate it into position. Imagine to possibilities!

Ok, I no longer have any idea what you are talking about. But perhaps this pic will explain things? The outer section of the wing is tilted down with respect to the other. And it has forwards swept, not straight.

Rune. That's the test article that made orbit, BTW, I don't expect wingform to change much from this one.

I wasn't sure at first but I think he is talking about the other guys

The pic with the triangle shaped wings. Plane on ascent viewed from behind

I think it's the air speed causing them to bend like that.

I built a few planes with ant engine hinges in Zepto Eagleworks. In fact I think I was one of the first.

You were so advanced back then for me, it was only in retrospective I realized what you had been doing. At first, it was witchcraft to me! :D

Rune. Kinda like helicopters, especially when the structural pylons as rotors were a thing.

Awesome design there Rune!

All you need to do is angle the thrusters and it'll be perfect!

^That took a lot of tweaking.

Love the Separatrons there

Building all day trying to get some more designs out for my Kerbal fleet to crash.

Using RemoteTech, I needed something to bring satellites into orbit(s) while preparing to go to Minmus and beyond.

As the designs of satts vary with their center of mass I needed something that would remain stable in both horizontal and vertical flight *scratch head*

Taking my previous design for a light cargo lifter, change the center part with tweakscale and use InfernalRobotics with top&bottom rails, hinges and extenders connected to docking port pairs :)

While at it, added a 16 Kerbal ferry to the fleet :)

In love with RetroFuture with IR

Ships look more like ships instead of clipped rockets

Still needs some fixes, but after a few tests, the idea actually works great to control com with satts and small cargo and minimum wobbling!

I don't know what that is, but it looks incredible :D Did you use some sort of aircraft parts pack?

It`s the RetroFuture mod that adds these parts http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/84054-v-25-RetroFuture-v1-6-6-VTOLOERAMA

Love it so much that I had to add a TweakScale config so that more parts would be usable as the "clean" rocket parts to create more designs just mess it up

After finishing my Meteor, I was so eager to get started on my next replica, which drew on votes.

This plane is ridiculously fast, and I wanted it to be fast both near sea level and high up...

Trying to fit a turbojet and basic jet engine together and feeding fuel to both engines was tricky, as you can see, but I managed to get it working.

Kerbettes and Kerbalmen I present to you... my English Electric Lightning prototype.

I've adjusted flight controls so the aircraft is stable and still turns pretty well. I still need to perfect the fuel flow, as the Turbojets seem to run out of fuel before the Basic Jet Engines, but I think the overall model is pretty accurate.

You use EVE and KVV non?

They clash causing that see through shadow thing.

Nice planes BTW.

Nope I don't use either. Just Mechjeb, Engineer and NavHUD. The rest is stock :) I think what you mean are the white shockwaves forming on the aircraft perhaps? I honestly don't have any environmental mods and I don't know what shadow thing you mean.

Hmm. Looks like I can see fuel lines from inside the craft.. Not the one near the leading edge of the wing but further back.
