Aaaaaaand....we have a winner! It's Giggleplex! Again!

:P

Now this marks his third time he wins a BSC contest - so special congratulations to Giggleplex.

It's been an awesome Challenge (once again) with suprisingly few incidents (none). Thank you guys once again for all your contributions - BSC would not be possible without you.

It's time for the final vote! It will run for two days - please read

BSC: Challenge Guidelines Mk.II - even if you just want to vote!

The vote is public - everyone will be able to see what you have voted.

The primary vote has started! It will run for four days and will select four finalists.

Everyone who sent me their Email via PM should have a mail. Also note: If you want to vote too, you can still PM me your adress.

You can download all the crafts in a single, convenient .zip right

>>HERE<<

I'm using condorcet-method vote - you will be asked to rank the entries. Don't worry, it's fairly simple - If you want to vote for a single entry, leave all entries on the lowest rank and move your prefered entry to rank one. The way you can also vote for any number of candidates. It sound a little wierd but it's a perfectly sound voting system - you can check the wiki page (And I've got a fairly professional page that offers this service).

After public outcry: Here is another BSC challenge!

Yes, it has been a while, february has been a bussy month. But now I'm back for another challenge. After that little voting incident last time and since the last BSC was over a month ago, you guys will have one week to build and one week to Vote. I will probably split the voting-procedure in a 5-days primary vote, using a condorcet vote like last time, followed by a two days final vote here in the forums. Other people will be able to see what you have voted for in the final vote.

If you want to vote in the primaries - you have to pm me your email-adress.

Please check the BSC: Challenge Guidelines Mk.II - even if you just want to vote! This is where I've outsourced all the rules, legal stuff and design-goals.

How is this going to work?

You will have 168 hours to build you craft and post your entry here with at least one screenshot and its .craft file (only one .craft file is allowed). Also be so kind to drop us a few lines about your craft. What are your thoughts on the design? Why is it a good stock craft?

Once submissions are closed, everyone who sent me their mail adresses via pm will receive a email with a personal link to the vote. Depending on the number on entries, we will probably first hold primary election, followed a final one. Anyways, I would like to encourage you to write a few lines why you voted you that craft, it keeps the thread fresh and we all have something to read while we wait for the votes.

What are we doing this time?

As you allready know, we are doing the Rocket Powered VTOL.

Well, once again I think this a probably a rather decent craft. Still - I'm sure there is room for improvement! Obvious enhancements would be a longer flight time, improved handling and maybe speed.

While the title actually calls for a rocket powered VTOL I'm fine with air-breathing engines since, in my experience, their sluggish response to throttle change make up for the improved flight time.

But just to make sure: I don't want a Harrier Jump Jet! Your craft should not rely on wings to keep itself airborne but on vertical thrust. Please keep the spirit of the original stock craft.

Since this is obviously a rather hard topic to find inpirational pictures for, I have only two. The Lunar Landing Research Vehicle and the VZ-9 Avrocar.

I'm sorry spartwo - but only one entry per participant. It either the sparrow or the tern - I wont decide wich one stands a better chance.

What are "VTOL engines"? Im fine with horizontal engines, but lift has to be provided by vertical thrust. No harriers..

....yeah...that is really embarassing, you see. No - it started today, and will end in a week. But I'm hessitant to sent out another mass-pm ;)

No, ecape-system are no a must. As explained in the BSC: Challenge Guidelines Mk.II, simplicity is also a designs goal. While an escape system might be nice - it might make the craft overly complicated.

the TVTOL(trainer vtol) VV-2V

action groups are in the description. Comes with an escape system that doesn't really work but will make your kerbals feel safer but also might work if you're going slow enough . also comes with 2 lawn chairs so that you can ki...test more kerbals faster! and has inbuilt landing light in the landing gear.

craft file

to fly: fly it like the stock Vtol but just remember that the engines need time to spin up and down.

MISC.: well it's called the TVTOL(trainer vtol) VV-2V I just have it title as the BSC rocket VTOL in the file for easy searching and the wheels are there for an easier landing and there is no abort thing just parachutes

I'll be interested to see if Cupcake will make an entry for this one. In the mean time, I should learn how to build VTOLs...

Sorry, I'm gonna have to sit this one out, I've just got too much on my plate at the moment. :( I'll be looking forward to seeing what people come up with though. :D

Cupcake...

I really think the escape system should be a requirement. The stack separators and parachutes on the cockpit are quite conspicuous, and its inability to fly a useful mission implies its a training platform for practicing powered landings.

Also, an explicit part count limit so its clear how powerful of a computer we are assuming this 'theoretical new player who is trying to learn the game by looking at the stock craft' owns. I'm not sure I can even load mhoram's entry in the VAB much less test it for voting purposes.

Even though either Majorjim or Cupcake are going to dominate this challenge I offer up the Tern or the Sparrow(whichever stands a better chance).

I'd probably say you should only have craft with just VTOL engines.

:D

I'm really flattered that you mentioned me Spartwo! I'm not sure if this has enough capability to win but as its a training tool I think

it would suit a BSC for beginners to learn in. I have chosen the LLTV with the ejection system as it allows you to play and keep safe

Kerbals in a 'perma-death' save.

So here is my entry. The LLTV:

pleases don't bring that up... just don't...not after what happened last time

Nah, come on, if you want a beginner's VTOL then: core, 90 fuel, 48 engine.

It's stable, controllable, agile and SSTO with enough fuel to de-orbit. Slap a parachute on it and you can still SSTO and recover it. What am I missing in the question?

The common sense of someone who owns a computer like the one I will buy after I save up enough money will think 300 parts is perfectly fine. For someone who owns the computer I have right now, 250 on the launchpad is the absolute maximum.

But if you want to leave it open to interpretation, I will abide.

So, I took the original rocket powered VTOL and improved over it's design while keeping its original things like the droptanks at the sides and the ejectable pod. When I say improved, I mean it.

Pros:

•Really easy to fly.

•Doesn't rely on magic torque (Although you can just keep it enabled).

•Unique fuel flow design allows for high adaptability, the center engines shut down when the center tanks run out, this means more less fuel being consumed.

•Flight time: Enough to get bored, longer than the original that's for sure.

•It actually looks kinda good.

•Runs on my toaster.

•Doesn't rely on other cheaty techniques such as hardcore clipping or hidden wings.

•I kept the headlights.

Cons:

•Relies on semi-cheaty engines (48-7S)

•When center tanks run off, craft tends to go nose down a bit (Game error, both engines run out of fuel at the same time, and the craft is flyable after that indicating no CG shifting).

•At take-off time, the TWR is a bit low, no rocketing to the sky.

•It has a totally non-original name.
