I don't feel the excitement when my new rocket launches because.....

Recommended Posts

The sound in the game is horrible. Please Please Please hire a sound person to start working on better sounds. Sounds of a count down, sounds of preignition, sounds of sonic booms, sounds of crew screaming, sounds of mission control, sounds of thing rattling around while IVA, sounds of explosions....... Also hire a graphics person to work on flames, smoke, water dumping at launch site, towns, multiple launch sites......

Launching my newest rocket should feel huge/epic but I don't feel it. The motors don't rumble or crackle, the Kerbals are mute even though I see them scream, there are no onboard cameras recording so I can replay the disaster from different views to troubleshoot, no vapor trails or sonic cones.........

I hope you see what I am getting at. In MS FSX you could download add-ons that would give camera shake while in first person and this game really needs that to help draw you into its world. Infact you could probably get lots of ideas from FSX on how to immerse players into the game.

HotRockets takes advantage of the new FX system for better engine effects. CoolRockets gives you cryo effects. There is a compilation of sound enhancing mods somewhere but I'll have to dig for that.

But all in all, I do agree this should be done sooner or later. For now, we can mod the crap out of our game to achieve similar results.

Yes, but this was a suggestion for them impoving the game. If they don't develop it themselves it turns the game into a hog-pog of incompatible add-ons that crash constatly. Currently I use the 1 add-on that makes the Kerbals talk but may check out some other sound mods. thanks for the heads up.

Mods disqualify you from official support.

2 of the top 5 most viewed support threads concern audio problems. These threads are 7 months old.

The OP's suggestion is a good one. PLEASE FIX THE GAME SOUNDS!

Mods disqualify you from official support.

Even if they did (and I'm not sure they do), there are hundreds of lovely people on this forum who are more than willing to help diagnose and resolve problems, especially the mod makers who are keen to make their mods the best they can be.

I agree that sounds are a little generic at the minute, but it's definitely one of those "mods-to-fill-the-gap" issues until the game is more complete.

Regarding sound of countdown, it's not just a simple sound as it needs to be integrated with some actual launch delay.

I also think it's better if I can launch the rocket anytime without waiting several seconds. Especially when I am testing something and make several launches in a minute.

Apart of that, better sounds would be definitely nice and I hope developers will get to it when they get through implementing more important things.

KW adds a bunch of awesome sounds to it's engines, and I think it would just take a MM patch to apply them to stock and other mods. That being said, I am all for better stock rocket effects, from cryo, to proper engine exhaust and smoke. I think it is worth mentioning though, almost everything in the game is a placeholder or WIP. AFAIK, that definitely includes the current visual and sound FX.

No, they don't. If you have mods and you need help, though, it really helps to know exactly where the issue lies.

I'm sorry, I was referring to this sticky'd post : http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/40347-Starting-with-0-21-Warranty-void-for-modded-installations

I apologize if I interpreted it wrong. It sounds to me like having a mod installed voids warranty. I use mods often. I wish there was a mod that fixed the audio problems. Forgive me, but I would still like to see these issues get ironed out by Squad.

If they don't, then why threads where mods are used are closed?

Also.

Starting when 0.21 is released we will no longer be supporting installations with mods in this forum

It doesn't really make sense for Squad to completely overhaul the sounds before the game is complete. What if they'd done it in .21, got all the engines sounding perfect, and then had to start again on all the "science sounds" from scratch in .22?

I fully expect (And hope) for there to be awesome sounds and better graphics when the game is finished, but it will probably be one of the last "polishing" things done, all in one go, otherwise it's just an inefficient use of Squad's resources.

I've heard this line of reasoning before, and it's valid IMO. I like the idea of getting the most out of my time. However, I feel like it is Squad's responsibility to maintain product quality at this point of development and especially after the recent sales success on Steam. Summary : I just want the game to work as well in .24 as it did in .20.

IMO, squad is churning out these big updates now, but it won't be long before the main elements of the game are at least established and we start to see smaller, detail oriented updates.

That said, I'd adore more sound effects. Because the current game is just a bit too .... Silent. Even the music only shows up once in a while.
