I'm a sci-fi nut and even I thought it was rediculous.

Just for clarification, what sci-fi movie have you watched that wasn't ridiculous?

The science wasn't perfect in it, but it was far, far better than almost any other sci-fi movie. I think maybe 2001: A Space Odyssey was a bit more realistic if you ignore all the monoliths and the hallucinogenic ending sequence, but I can't think offhand of another mainstream movie that handled spaceflight as well.

This scene had me WTFing the most of the movie, the whole ISS/Hubble/Tiangong are in the same orbit within 100km of space thing at least somewhat obeys the law of physics, even if if defies common sense.

Glad to see it all makes sense in the kerbal universe though

It's very dramatic and keeps some of the real things how they should be. tbh, I expected them to handle ships as airplanes and reenter on their suits or something similar. My only complaint [spoilers! highlight the following text:]is that she didn't use RCS to approach Tiangong. Instead of that, she used the landing thrusters on the Soyuz, but it's ok.

If you don't want to watch it because it's unrealistic, get off your high horse and enjoy a little science fiction. :)

I don't recommend it. :P

Besides being really unrealistic, it is just Sandra Bullock sitting in a Soyuz capsule complaining about how she's gonna die...

It is also dumbing down the public, since it makes them think that rendezvous is as simple as "moving towards something."

It is the most realistic movie you will see in a while. Sure, a few things didn't make sense, but that's simply needed for the plot.

Watch any action movie and they will violate the laws of physics dozens of times in a single action scene.

rendez-vous is as simple as moving towards something, that's what it is! It's just that in the space and time of an orbit 'towards' doesn't always correlate with the line of sight :)

True, true :)

It's just that the way they portray it, they just thrust directly towards a target with their jetpacks.

Put some actors into rubber costumes, add explosions every five minutes, use loads of scientific improbable technology and through in an overly simplified political/catastrophic/military plot - people will love it.

Try even to an extent to keep things realistic - people will hate you for every ounce of artistic liberty. :D:wink:
