I have been practicing surface docking with the claw. I was hoping that getting any part within the confines of the claw would make it happy, but it demands more precision than that (the center of the claw must contact the face of the part to be docked to). So, for some pre-existing airplanes I have, for example, using the claw to dock to the edge of the wing can be problematical (since the height of the wing and the height of the claw have to be pretty close), but grabbing the rear of the jet engine nozzle is much easier... ...although it does look a bit rude.

If you are going to purpose-design surface hardware for this kind of docking, you can include easily accessed vertical plates or beam or truss pieces on the ships to make the docking easier.

I like them. A few of my rockets were stacking two of the old SRBs on top of each other, burning in series. This new one simply takes the place of that double-stack. It isn't as violent of a ride, but so far I'm really liking them.

I just found the new version has automatic conic mode switching :)

Focussed on Kerbin - or on the ship, or on just about anything else - we see the conics drawn in Kerbin's frame of reference (the old mode 3)

Focussed on the Mun, we now see the Mun pass in the Mun's frame of reference so we can zoom in and fine-tune our pass. (the old mode 0)

This puts a smile on my face.

I love boosted Ion engines! burn for Minmus is 6minutes with 3 enginen craft, burn for duna for 1 engined craft around 20 minutes... Now we talk bussines!

I hear ya, man! An ion lander mission around Minmus was scheduled to be scrubbed due to electricity issues but the new update made it possible again! :D

i like them but all those booster are small. i got a shuttle that can put 46 tons in orbit and those booster arn't big enough.

I use to clip 3 of kw biggest booster.

because moar booster is better! love there style trough

I'm just loving the improvements to the maneuver node system. Being able to project positions more than 1 orbit ahead is great, but what I've just found make me really happy.

maneuver nodes are now persistent!!! Awesome! You can now quicksave and reload and not loose your nodes, but even more awesome is they remain in place when you switch craft. Not only that, if you switch craft and then target a craft that has nodes setup, you can see its nodes!!

They're also visible in the tracking station (but you can't interact with them there).

That's really awesome, thanks Squad!

I don't know if I would use a longer burn time. I've already had to stack lots of extra fuel on the liquid boosters just so the SRB's run out before the liquid ones. If I HAD to have longer burn time, I'd probably just tweak the thrust down and use more of them to give me enough oomph to get up and go.

I'm just saying as having an Ares I type craft, your entire first stage is a SRB. So you don't have to worry about it not running out before anything else.

So, I just went into the tracking station and noticed that I have an asteroid in orbit around Kerbin. I haven't gotten anywhere close to any of the asteroids in my game, let alone do anything to them. Secondly, as I was just about to note how close it got to the Mun, ANOTHER asteroid orbit all of a sudden appeared.

Is this supposed to happen?

EDIT: Nevermind, I just clicked on the orbits, and it turns out that when you click on them, then you can see that it's an escaping trajectory. Weird bug though.

After more reverts than I've had to do in a looong time, finally got a class C in a 150km x2000km orbit. My design took 5 reverts, getting the right orbit took 4, the intercept took 1, but the capture went well at least. Lessons learned: struts are still needed, separatrons are required to kick SLS parts out, make sure KSP is directly under the orbit, and those asteroids are moving fast. :)

I just want to say 0.23.5 is a thing of beauty. Its really pleasing to see the rockets fly so gracefully now, the junction fix and new parts have given it something of that NASA elegance which is a wonder to behold. Thanks, please keep going! :)

Love it!

I just landed a class A asteroid near KSC. :)

The ship was designed only for getting the asteroid into LKO, but I tried to land it just for fun (the craft had 4 parachutes), and I succeeded.
