Rosetta, Philae and Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.

Pure speculation at the moment I'm afraid, even people at ESA don't know the exact cause right now, there can be dozens of reasons for interrupted communications.

And that is why I used words and phrases like "could be" and "maybe". We don't know. All we can do is spectate until we're given more to work with by ESA.

Edit: ESA news conference is postponed until 20 minutes from now.

While we wait, I just read the article about landing site name suggestions.

"Fictional characters from films, television shows, literary and musical works were also proposed. Some even referred to the virtual astronauts of the Kerbal Space Program, a popular online space exploration game."

Damn shame it didn't end up being called "Jeb's Landing" or somesuch.

Looks like lander lifted itself after the touchdown and started twisting when flywheel was turned off. But it "landed again" soon after, and went back in horizontal position.

Seems like the landing was very near the center of planned landing ellipse.

Contact with Philae will resume tomorrow. Update: tomorrow 14:00 CET (13:00 UTC)

The harpoons did not fire, however the screws are in and there is no concern about its anchoring. The solar panels are producing electricity. Also, the thruster has a priming/perforation process that a sensor did not provide a positive affirmation that it worked, however the ESA confirmed that the thruster works and the sensor is most likely faulty (like getting a check engine light on your car when the only thing wrong is the indicator light itself).
