... should reverting to VAB or Launch be disabled in career?

With the addition of prices, I am assuming that astronauts will be paid a salary or commission per mission, so at the failure of a launch and their death, you simply wouldn't be erasing it and trying it again after a few more struts.

There's no need to do this because you already can; just edit your save file and you'll instantly be superior to all those dweebs playing EASY MODE KSP. That's the fine line that separates the boys from the mens.

Sure, and no save games anymore.

I generally dislike measures that demand the player to play a game a certain way. You always have the option to leave from flight mode to the space center and scrap the rocket, IF you so desire. Especially because you cannot (easily) climb up a tower to place some part you forgot in VAB, cannot switch crew on the launch pad, change the amount of fuel afterwards ...

Note: The game has to work without mods, so no "but you can use KAS, TACFB ... for this and that" please.

I completely agree with KerbMav's assessment. I've seen statements like the OP is so many games. The game should be played ONLY this way. Gawd almighty, look at the battleground for using MechJeb.

To all those people, I say: you play your way and I'll play mine. I'm not here to live up to your expectations of how the game is to be played. It's a game. It's supposed to be relaxing. It's supposed to be fun. You and I may define "fun" differently", and that's OK. Give me options, not restrictions.

I do think that the game should have optional modes that remove certain choices. I personally don't want revert to launch completely removed because I like to test my designs. But once I'm done testing, and I've decided to do a real launch, I would like there to be a no-turning-back mode so that if all hell breaks loose, I can't just hit the revert button during the initial shock and disappointment of the disaster. Like when I killed Jeb, Bill, and Bob in one go when my science plane crashed on take-off during it's maiden flight. The temptation to revert in my deepening sense of regret and loss was almost insurmountable - if any other additional disappointment had occurred simultaneously (like if my Eggo-waffles had started to burn in the toaster), I surely could not have faced the reality of life without those three heroes.

Not globaly. I can see in the future difficulty for career being added. MAYBE then there can be an option when starting a new career to remove the revert flight along with other changes. Since it is already an option in the config files i see this as already planned. But until difficulty settings could be added, demanding all career plays to play one way is not how career should be made. Reverting flights is a big portion of testing missions, especially for a rather new player. Not killing hundreds of kerbals just trying to get to orbit is kinda ridiculous. (also probably impossible as you will lose the game by then)

It would be awfully hard to test things with "revert flight" removed. Maybe the Revert Flight function could be restricted to being used only within an hour after launch, or only being used before you exit the atmosphere, or some similar mechanic or combination thereof.

Of course, there could be a "test mode," where you are set down on a giant white sphere that matches Kerbin's gravitational and atmospheric parameters. Maybe physics could be somehow limited in this mode as well, with the entire ship treated as a single, inflexible part, which would keep the danger and thrill of the actual launch intact.

Currently, you revert for 3 reasons: 1) you hit "launch" to test something on the Launchpad (omg will the solar panels fit if they expand?), 2) you started that last burn (or other goof) too late, and now Jebediah is about to be or is toast, or 3) you find that you forgot to add lander legs (or that sort of thing).

Eliminating the ability to revert seems a bit harsh for #1 and #3, and f5 / f9 quicksaving solves #2. Eliminating "Revert" serves no purpose except to punish people for #3. It is a game, not a job. Let's keep "Revert."

As long as the Kraken is roaming around the Kerbol system the "Revert to Launch" is welcome.

This. And quicksave/quickload. I don't mind having a mission fail because of something I do (well, I do mind, but it's fair game). Having a mission fail because the game decides it wants to excrete solids in the sleeping area? No, and don't disable the tools that let me recover the play up until that point.
