[1.12.X] Tantares - Stockalike Soyuz and MIR [26.0][18.12.2023][Things are happening]

That Energia is so utterly beautiful!

If you need additional sources for your modelling, you might want to have a look at this:

http://andegraf.com/rockets/rus_never.htm

There also appear to be many interior models of spacecraft on that site.

Regarding the N-IM: I still haven't taken it for a spin, mainly because the bottom heatshield had the nasty habit of ruttling itself to death as soon as the 11D51Ms were mounted... So I used the assembly for a quick picture, and then had to weld the skirt etc. on it. If it does fly now, it'll be able to lift between 230 and 300 tons, without RD-0410s! And with them... *evil laugh*

What can I say dimovski, that is one of the coolest sources I have seen, love the simplicity and information.

Many thanks!

The N-IM, I really want to see it fly now.

IMHO dimensions and look are a tad flawed for Energia core.

The core here is actually just a mockup, a 2.5m fuel tank sized and stretched to be roughly 5m, so yeah, the proportions will be off.

The 2.5m tanks will "hopefully" be more or less exact on the sizes, they are based from orthographic drawings.

The smaller tank on the right, to be specific.

Love that Energia!

Is the physics trickiness on ascent due to the "offset magic"? :P

Still, really nice, I like the pseudo-lifting body design thing. Perhaps FAR is what I'm missing, all my spaceplane designs crumble when DRE comes into play.

Hell if I know, man :) I've tried it, it flies rather nicely (in this context, "nicely" means "better than rock"), which means I've finally managed to build a nice little spaceplane ;) I suck at them, you know...

The problem is that FAR and DRE does not recognize offset, and there is no hope that they ever will.

Currently, DRE is super-easy with FAR. On Medium (aka old "default") settings, Tantares descent module can survive re-entering from the Mun, losing about 30 (of 250) ablative shielding in the process.

Love it, will there be that parachute "bulk" on radial tanks?

*brag mode* àð÷òøтøõ is development in sense of "growth", you need the word "àð÷рðñþтúð" :P

It LIVES!

I present you the ultimate part-welding-frankenstein-abomination, weighing in at a staggering 5000 tons, without any payload, dwarfing MIK-112 with it's ludicrous height of 165 meters, the...

"Better than a rock" is better than the space shuttle! :)

I will for sure try FAR then, I'm not so happy with rapiers overheat and exploding instantly the moment they switch to closedCycle.

Bah, my Russian has failed me again.

Anyway, the parachutes, radial parts maybe? It is not quite on the cards yet, but maybe. I understand they are a part of the Energia "look".

Although, here in assembly and in Energia-M config, without.

But, with recovery not being a stock feature, they're not a priority.

The original flight had the "bulk", but no active parachutes.

Actually, it really comes down to how much texture space is available, as I'm trying to not use too much.

That base is awesome! :)

Great to see the shiny gold tanks getting use.

Giving Delta V in burn time is pretty interesting, if it was easier to measure burn times...

I have a "baby brother" for your base!

I think they are stuck on Minmus, but the multiple contracts netted a cool €1,000,000

Thanks! Welcome to the Minmus neighbourhood! Say, since you're my new neighbour...do you think that I could borrow a cup of flour?

All of these N-1 rockets make me want an N-1 parts pack. What add on are people using for their N-1 rockets? Beale, is there any plan to create an N-1 in the future?

The N-1 is such a goofy rocket. DangIt could add a "bolt" failure to commemorate it.

Now I can't give you rep for that hillarious 1st line :(

AFAIK N-I is planned, but there really are a load of them around. If you wish, I can send you my "hand-rolled" .cfgs so you can fool around with these V-II,-III, M, F and U versions...

And the blot failure would indeed be hillarious.

What about a "pogo oscillation" failure? There are endless possibilities here.

Which one do you use? Bobcat looks okay, but it doesn't seem to have been updated. DennyTX's looks amazing, but it also has not been updated. SXT's is a cool design, but it doesn't really look like the N-1. I really do not like Novapunch's N-1, or their R-7 for that matter. Beale's soviet parts are much nicer to fly.

Anyway, sorry for going off on a tangent Beale. Consider this a sign that there's demand for an N-1 in your art style. :)

Wow, nice. I could see the Kerbin Shuttle Orbiter fly on the back of that Energia. Unless of course you are making a Buran...

The size should be just about perfect for Mk3 sizing, maybe a little big for KSO.

With throttle-controlled avionics, Shuttle ascent is great! :)

Actually quite enjoying my extended stay on the snowball! It's so friendly.

The N-1 - It's the next launcher I have my eye on. cBBp has made a real nice model as a base, still working on it.

Hey, since when Soyuz engines has a core\booster setting? :)

Last update.

Basically to allow some flexibility in Soyuz variants :)

The "Core" is four the basic Soyuz design central engine, but if you want to build a Soyuz 2-1, you can switch it to single booster, if you get what I mean.

I'm just going to leave this here:

May we have a huge gimbal (like 10 degrees) on RD-120 or RD-170 please? Otherwise it won't be possible to compensate Buran-like style of shuttle.

Mein Dear Beale, I Do Understand That You Are unable to make Stock-Alike International Space Station. But, Is There Any Chance of you Making the Russian Orbital Segment of the ISS? http://i.imgur.com/Ug1VDLY.png

As people have already stated this can easily be done with parts already in the pack, thusly:

UDrtZiD.png

And yes, I always tend to build the entire thing in the VAB then send it up in chunks... just to make sure it all fits together :)

Perhaps.

I think with the Energia-Buran, the Buran is more the payload? where the space shuttle was the actual integral launch system.

So gimballed main engine rockets is important for off-centre payloads.

Ah, it will come out in testing, no doubt :)

Pretty unique way of doing things!

I like the design

That glorious stuff made me start a reboot of RSSA and start a Tantares-powered AAR: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/106698

Actually, that is the first stylized AAR I tried to write in English, hope I haven't made a lot of mistakes. :)

I like it! The kind of (I'm terrible at describing stuff life this) "cynical dark humour"(?) is absolutely my favourite style of writing.

Well, in other news, I'm messing with Venera.

I have a suspicion that the stock poodle engine is heavily inspired by the Venera design (check the pipes!) But I guess I'll never know.
