Looks like 0.25 is going to drop any day now. Once that's out I'll test this against it before uploading. With new folder structure and all it makes sense. hopefully RPM will be functional with new update or Mihara gets back to update it. Other mods, MM; Firespitter; Smokescreen and BDArmory, are very active and probably will get updated quickly.

new parts for 1.6

Inline Docking port (just like squad's but in the RF rectangular fuselage format)

2m long Cargo section; open ended so you can stack them together for longer bays. enough for 1m or smaller payloads.

pointy nosecone like Mig 23/25

All nosecones have reaction wheels now to supplement command modules; nosecones also get data transmission module as well.

all cockpits get KER Flight Engineer module now; you still need to tack on the KER part in VAB/SPH for build engineer

craft file of the mig-25 look-alike from above.

debating if I should wrap the ED low profile engines into RF.. or do new LFO engines... maybe a linear aerospike ( they seem popular)

Could you add a cargobay that would open to the sides, like on a helicopter or an old-timey transport airplane? Preferably with sliding side doors, but it could open however you like.

can you link a pic? not sure what you have in mind. I keep seeing a larger version of a mini-van side door.

I just saw that you respinded to this thread. Could you show an example how Smokescreen does what's shown in that first post?

http://i.imgur.com/6Qn42T5.jpg shows particle growth based on atmospheric density.

lower altitude = higher atm pressure = less exhaust expansion in the left image at 700m altitude

higher altitude = lower atm pressure = more exhaust expansion in the right most image at 50km altitude

another example

http://i.imgur.com/lIwIgSr.jpg expansion @ 35km

http://youtu.be/0JOGugux2PU?t=50s expansion @ sea level.

more exhaust plume expansion

That's not the same though. That poster was asking for an actual mesh with special materials. I take it your mod doesn't do that?

SmokeScreen adds many more input controls to the Particle FX module. SmokeScreen handles exhaust expansion based on atm pressure and a host of other parameters. My impression is that the mesh based exhaust plume plugin was an attempt to simulate such behaviours of the exhaust plume based on ambient pressure. As far as visuals I don't think the mesh route is an improvement.

I think I see some mesh based particles in the new 0.25 explosions, one can only hope a new parttools will be out with more a capable particle editor.

gotcha. It would be a good start for larger fuselage parts. larger 2.5 rectangular section but wide instead of tall like the current 1.25 sections. Should be soon.

I'd love that. :) And yes, I meant something like minivan side doors (or ones on a Huey). KSP has a noticeable dearth of good parts for small/medium VTOLs and transport helos. I did have a Huey-style helo in mind, using your fuselages (they're big enough to fit a bunch of Kerbal seats.

still waiting for 0.25 to drop... external dimensions roughly 3m H x 3.75m W x 3m L; 1.25m and 2.5m cylinders for internal space size ref. pretty generous cargo space I think. I figure AnimateGeneric and FSanmateGeneric for separate hatch toggles. and extending ramp in the side doors (Infernal Robotics would be handy). an adaptor to standard 2.5m parts. and 1m L pancake sections w/ fuelSwitch. maybe some kind of radial adaptor for the 1.25m rectangular sections...

Lovely. Now make a tailramp and I think we're set. :) I really like the looks of this. Will you also be making a cockpit for this? Preferably an Osprey-style, 2-Kerbal one.

My only concern is that those parts are a bit bigger than I'd like. B9 already provides very good 3m-sized parts, though those look much more fitting for a military VTOL. I was hoping for something like 2.5m size, capable of transporting 1.25m rovers and cargo. While those parts are not bad, I'd also love a smaller cargobay set, for example one sized like 2 "small" RF fuselages stuck next to each other.

Also, for better memory consumption, you should convert your textures to something other than .tga, since loading those is bugged.

yeah, in the process of converting textures to PNGs. Hopefully ATM will get updated soon as it fixes a host of issues with default KSP asset loader with textures. They should be the size you are looking for when they are scaled down to 50% (~1.8m external width, almost exact size of Osprey fuselage), with generous room inside for 1.25m cargo and adaptors to 1.25m standard cylindrical parts Tail hatch is definitely in the plans; as are command pods; and some landing gears probably. should play nicely with some KAX or Firespitter rotor blades for VTOL crafts.

now just waiting for Firespitter to update so it doesn't throw the incompatibility message.

Will you be making a half-size version yourself? While most parts can be easily rescaled, cockpits are an exception. IVA won't line up if you scale down a cockpit, not to mention now that I think of it, a 3.75m fuselage would call for a pod around the size and capacity of B9 HL one, not a 2-Kerbal helo-style one. You can toggle most other parts between the two sizes vie TweakScale, so there'd even be no need for actually making more parts.

the parts above can easily be scaled. With the new folder structure it should be much easier to set up your own set of parts and delete the ones you don't use. Textures are all centralized and shared. if you don't want a particular piece, just delete it's folder containing the MU, config, and dummy texutres.

cockpits will be two parts; one for the the smaller and one for larger. Smaller one would be something like Huey/Blackhawk/Osprey. Larger one will be more fanciful. I expect the tail pieces will be two separate parts as well for some variety; smaller one a raised adapter to 1.25 with door on the lower side. the larger a longer section, with longer ramp. moving door panels really restricts attachment options unfortunately.

Did you try PMing DIY? He doesn't seem to respond to the thread often. Also, it seems Taverius had a hand in this update, you could try asking him if he's had any luck with this.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
