Kerbal Stuff, an open-source Space Port replacement

All I can say is great initiative, great work!

When downloading a couple of mods the past few days I didn't realize it was all a one-man act!

My simple end-user experience was that of any good/professional download site.

And without wanting to seem weird, in as distant and anonymous a fashion as possible, my inner carebear forces me to say: "Take good care of yourself, don't get burned out on a hobby."

Sorry no constructive criticism, since I'm not a web-designer :)

After doing some marathon coding today, the redesign is finished! You can check it out now, it's live: http://beta.kerbalstuff.com

There are a number of todo items I closed with this redesign. Among them are the ability to browse every mod on the site, and a bunch of bug fixes.

And thanks again to Chris Burns for the design inspiration and a lot of the CSS work! It looks great.

:) good job.

- for colour scheme some people may like some other dislike: why not providing some theme users can choose ?

- it looks like pictures (even duplicated ones) takes a while to load the first time.

- the header images in the mod list (profile list) doesn't use the same alignment as set (pic are aligned top like HTML table cell alignment parameter)

- the stats graph use 3 colours only ??? Look at http://beta.kerbalstuff.com/mod/58/Kerbal%20Foundries%20Wheels%20and%20Repulsors%20ALPHA, the colours are reuse all the time making graph meaningless.

and the last:

removing screenshots without prior notice and giving any chance for modders to do something before change is not the best and friendliest thing to do IMHO.

Thanks for the tip, Justin.

As for whether or not Kerbal Stuff is a site for modders or for mod users, the answer is both. However, the important one is modders, since users will go where the modders go. I wanted to cater to them first and now I can cater to the users. Like I keep saying, it's in beta and some things are definitely lacking.

I do understand your primary goal is to provide an alternative, open platform to modders (and I really prefer KS to curse!). However, modders want to distribute their work to users, so not focusing early on the distribution aspect is rather counter productive. But OK, it's actually in Beta and thus not yet ready for customers (modders/users) :P

Edit: The new KS looks great!

Hello Sir,

I think I have a bug report. Today, right after the new update, HoneyFox has released 2 updates for Engine Ignitor: I am following that mod, but I didn't receive any email about that.

Do you want me to open an issue on github maybe?

P.S: I realize it's not really fleshed as a bug report, but it's not like I would know how to replicate it or anything :/

Kerbal Stuff is only like 20% of my open source work, I'm pretty busy :)

:) good job.

Some of this hasn't changed from the redesign, namely the pictures loading slowly and the graph colors. The header images intentionally don't use the same alignment as they do on the listing pages.

I gave warning about screenshots several times while working on the redesign, look through the rest of this thread. You can still embed images or imgur albums in your mod descriptions.

I won't be providing an alternate color scheme, it's too much work for too little payoff.

Mod distribution has worked fine for a long time. Modders can create a listing and share it in their forum threads and this has worked well for about two months now. It's mod discovery that wasn't working as well, but now it is so shut up it's a beta.

Can you email [email protected] instead with your username and any relevant details?

Updates!

Firstly, you probably just read an email about notifications being borked. They are now unborked.

Also, the bug preventing you from deleting old versions of your mod is now fixed.

ALSO, there are now RSS feeds for new and featured mods:

http://beta.kerbalstuff.com/browse/new.rss

http://beta.kerbalstuff.com/browse/featured.rss

On top of that, I improved the search so that if you search for a mod by name it's very likely to be the first result. Searches like these now work better:

http://beta.kerbalstuff.com/search?query=time+control

http://beta.kerbalstuff.com/search?query=kerbal+joint

That's all the updates for today. SirCmpwn out.

Please remove my account and my data from KerbalStuff. User name is the same as my forum name.

Done. Good riddance.

Listen up, everyone. You've registered for a beta. You will be experimented upon and asked for feedback. If you don't like it, then sign up when it's done.

Still getting emails. Can you please remove me from KerbalStuff emails per my prior request to have my account and data removed? Thanks.

I have to be honest, the color change is awful. Why the shift from easy on the eyes and clean looking, to bright green on white?

Cause I think this one looks better. I'm willing to consider alternate styles if you come up with one.

I wouldn't describe the old look as "easy on the eyes" or "clean looking". I would describe the new design as both those things.

I think he was referring to the fact that the old design had a low intensity because of the darker colors which is nice. Bright white pages hurt your eyes after a while, kind of like this site . I don't care too much but it'd be nice to mute the colors more and maybe not use such high intensity ones.

Update time!

First, API docs! You can do a lot with the API, like:

  • Search for mods
  • Search for users
  • Find the latest version of your mod
  • Create new mods
  • Publish updates to existing mods

Second, this is now shown to people who aren't logged in after they download a mod:

That's all for now!
