0.25 Discussion thread

True, but it shouldn't take 3 months to create a 1:30 animation, nor would it take 3 months for a couple of people to create all the assets seen in the latest cinematic.

Has there been any announcements on what will be released in 0.25?

Spaceplane+, Navball Enhancements, Kerbal Transferring without EVA, The Administration facility.

Awesome, didnt hear about the navball improvements and kerbal transfer. What exactly would they be changing to the navball?

Adding Radial and Normal Markers, and an arrow pointing to the maneuver node marker. It's all the last DevNotes thread (which if you only read one DevNotes thread ever, that's the one).

Just like to add my own thoughts on the new content/eva suits,

As a person with experience in game development, my main puzzlement is the lack of content in the updates. I fully understand it takes time to update the game "especially on the coding side" but the lack of new assets are quite startling.

For example, modelling, texturing and importing a new model "lets say the space lab" into a game engine with no animation or major rigging should take a couple of days maximum. Modelling what is essentially cylinder and adding extra cylinders for the windows is a 1 day job whilst at least unwrapping and beginning texture work is still generous. So assuming each update takes 3 months, we could easily say 8 weeks should be spent on asset/content creation which should equal 25+ new game assets at 3 per week "assuming its 1 person"

I am by no means discrediting Squad, i think there brilliant! But i cant help but feel that there is a serious lack of organisation or structure on the art side... Or there sitting on hundreds of models and animations waiting to release!

They've made a conscious choice to focus on getting the features in and solid before working on refining/adding to the assets.

Maybe there will be a feature film length cinematic? :P

And no patches for next 2 years? ;)

They've made a conscious choice to focus on getting the features in and solid before working on refining/adding to the assets.

They're just very inefficient in what they're doing combined with rather poor management (search forums, you'll see quite a few discussions about various management issues) and constant detracking from the main objective (look: cinematics that are used for nothing else than self-promotion on youtube and take weeks (if not months) to complete) - getting the game done.

It's not a concious choice - more like: an effect of various circumstances.

Hey, Red Iron Crown, #Hypeplane is copyright me. Also it's not allowed to take off until 0.25 is in experimentals according to KasperVLD

The #hypeplane (and #hypetrain before it) are bigger than any single poster. Don't be a flea arguing over who owns the dog.

Bottom line, this is Squad's baby. They have put in the time to learn how to do this, they have put up the time and money to write and publish this game, and overall this is their plan of action (and it's good to have a plan of action). If you're still here in the forums, complaining or supporting, it's because you enjoy this product they've made. If you don't like this product and you're still here, then you're just somebody needing some desperate attention in order to fulfill some need for attention you're not getting elsewhere. Could the game be better, yes, what game couldn't? Could the game be worse, yes, what game couldn't? The world is full of complainers, the Squad team is filled with "doers". Doers are people that see a need or aren't happy with something and go out to "do" something about changing that as opposed to complaining how someone else needs to do something to make that complainer happy.

So to any of you who complain, I'd invite you to become a doer. Show the world you're more than just talk, prove to us you actually know what you're talking about. Prove to us our tax dollars have not been completely wasted on the education system.

Ugh, everyone please STOP. It's becoming an annoyance and something sad to see what this thread has become.

You're so wrong on so many levels.

Squad is inexperienced, exceptionally, compared to others and without the community complaining, they'd be absolutely nowhere.

*putting the train back on the tracks"

Has anyone on here talked about the Mk1 revamp? I saw somewhere an Image of a rendering of the new Mk1 cockpit. And in all Hugo's devnotes, he talked about having fun working with "the Mk Series" so I don't understand why people think it's just the Mk 3 series getting revamped. That's the only one SQUAD officially leaked. That doesn't mean it's the only thing in the update. Why update Mk 2 and 3 and leave 1 like it is? I personally am expecting all the Mk series to be revamped in the update, especially after seeing the picture of the Mk 1 cockpit. (i'll try to find the picture)

This one?

Hopefully the Mk2 cockpit got the same treatment.

I haven't seen any evidence of a Mk1 redo but I really hope that they aren't left out. I think that the released image was a sketch on a whiteboard or something as I remember that as well.

Edit: Nin'jd

I've got a feeling that the MK3 line will be shunted sideways into high-capacity passenger carrying or into the creation of long-range jets. There's really no incentive to use it over the other MK-series parts. That would change, however, if they upscaled the size to accommodate 2.5 meter parts, it would probably see a lot of use then. Whether or not they will BE upscaled is anyone's guess, though, SQUAD isn't obligated to follow our suggestions. I'm REALLY HYPED about the addition of SP+ to stock, though. When I saw it, I thought to myself: "If there's one thing I want added to stock, it's this." And they did add it! Whoop whoop!

No speculation on the admin building or on the "Big new feature" that they are working on, not enough information to form even a preliminary idea. 0.25 is looking to be an exciting update for KSP! Like... all the other ones, I guess. But still!

More interested if they'll match up the performance with Porkjet's. The lifting body fuselages of SP+ are a significant advantage. I can see arguments on both sides for whether Mk I should get a boost; hopefully they won't just nerf SP+.

So, basically you're only respectable when complaining about the wasted potential in this game if you're a modder or a Youtuber or someone else who brings content to the community? Maybe you and the the rest of the Super SQUAD Defenders could remember that next time you're on the case?

Whoops, the HypePlane's strayed off the black line (read SR-71). Autopilot, TURN THE PLANE, DAMMIT.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to a retexture of the Mk1 and Mk2 lines, which IMO don't fit with stock AT ALL. A retexture at least would make them look like they were part of the Kerbal universe.

EDIT: At least, I hope the parts will be retextured to look more like the SP+ parts, which actually look a bit like the stock texturing style (as in the rocket style, not the outdated C7 style).
