I know by experience that KSP forums is full of (no offence) Nerds :D That's nothing wrong i'm Nerd too :D

I was wondering why someone Star Trek fans (TNG) hate Wesley Crusher, when i was kid and TNG was aired in mid 90's Wesley was my hero even grater than Picard/Riker duo i wanted to be as smart as Wesley. So me question why nerds hate nerd (Wesley) ?

Star Trek got Wesley; Star Wars got Jar Jar. As far as I'm confirmed they should both be strapped to the capacitor banks of the main weapons systems during full-power target practice.

Actually I didn't mind Wesley that much. I think most people thought a kid, genius or not, didn't belong in critical areas of a starship like the bridge or engineering.

Aside from it being Star Trek: The Next Generation, not Star Trek: The High School Years?

Wesley was like the Borg.

Useful once in a while, but when you insist on throwing him in everything all the time, it gets bad. The character wuld have been fine in small doses, but he seemed to be the "We need to finish this episode, so... Yeah! Genius kid saves them all!"

Really? What about that kid

some kids are smarter that many adults, so don't generalize here :D

For me he was OK to a degree, but emblematic of a larger issue with TNG, children and non com families on the "front line". Now if the big E was, as one night expect of the federation flagship, solely doing diplomatic runs well within the federation I could swallow it. But that wouldn't make for a good show, so instead you've got four year olds getting fragged by every bumpy headed aggressor in the galaxy....not all of Gene's ideas were good ones.

Only because it was central to the show.

Watching the show, how many times was the ship captured, nearly captured, disabled, overrun by diseases, computers/engines/life support/vital technology not working, etc?

If it was named anything besides Enterprise, it wouldn't have lasted through an entire episode.

Remember that episode where her sister ship blew up?

The plot armor is strong with that one.

Wesley Crusher was a little bit annoying, but Wil Wheaton is the best. I personally liked Wesley and think that comparing him to JarJar is a crime against all the things.

EDIT: Double-post that was updated into a single post using magic.

Somehow he was so embarrassing in his role as Wesley Crusher. At least i felt it that way. I guess that is the reason for the resulting hate feelings of some guys.

See, Yamato, USS, DESTROYED

See, Oddesy, USS, DESTROYED

and D got splashed too in Generations...

Saw an amusing essay once on how the Galaxy class was the worst design of all time as a jack of all trades master of none design.

I was ok with him. He was a bit annoying, but nothing special. I don't understand the hatred. (Yes, it's hatred, not hate; hate is a verb).

Re watch the episodes with him it in. The other characters are going to go one of two ways. They're either going to be praising him up or telling him to shut up. Which ever way makes him look good. He was a character that could do no wrong if there was a problem he was normally the one who solved it.

There's very few episodes that he didn't play a key role in solving the crisis.

So what you're saying is that I have a distorted memory of him? It's quite possible. I watched it a long time ago. I'm not sure I want to destroy it. :/

Don't tell me you've forgotten the famous Shut up Westley scene?

That is almost the perfect example of this.

What bugged me about the Wesley character is that sometimes they wanted to have a certain complication in the plot, but it was something so stupid that none of the grownup characters would have done it. So they'd have the annoying kid do it, and then we'd have to watch the interesting characters clean up his mess instead of doing something actually interesting. Also, he flipped between two modes: insufferably perfect, and petulant brat. Ugh. Who wants to sit through that?

I had a similar hatred for the Barclay character. He was so grotesquely incompetent that any sane navy would have thrown his butt out the first time he royally bollixed something up. Instead, Star Fleet kept giving him second chances (and third, and fourth, etc.) so that he could go on screwing things up for them.

Since 99% of their Flag staff are worse is it any wonder? And from what I hear there are military personnel just as bad in RL.
