What do you do during burn time?

So on those long transfer burns that can take 15 minutes or so. What do you do?

I tend to go and make a drink, do a few odd jobs like setting things to record on the box.

(If anybody tells me there's an option to time warp at full throttle, I'll cry for my wasted time or at least resurrect my ion drive probe which had a 2 hr burn time to Eeloo).

Alt+. will force physical timewarp in space. Only goes up to 4x though.

Anyway, I try to build ships with respectable twr :P If that's not an option, I'll probably browse the forums while keeping an eye on KSP.

I've found ways past these excessively long engine burns. On all my interplanetary ships, I leave one of the bigger fuel tanks with a massive rocket on the end for leaving Kerbin, sometimes even refueling it. This seems to get my out of Kerbin's orbit in only 2-3 minutes versus wasting tons of fuel (and time) trying to escape Kerbin. That's not to say for orbital insertion sometimes I still have to fire the nuclear rockets for a long, long time... if and when I do, well, you just got to wait it out. I don't like to leave my PC in case the ship accidentally turns or something and then I have to do it over again.

For long burns I definitely recommend setting an outside timer as an added safety measure, giving you ample time to settle in and get ready for shutting off the burn on time. But in the meantime, catching up on War and Peace or Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is a good choice, to be sure. I tend to always run KSP windowed with Youtube to the side as some added noise, as it can get a bit too quiet for me at times.

Yep, Alt+ to timewarp. As someone else said above though, always quick save before you do this, it does have a habit of going very wobbly occasionally.

I just equate that to pushing the engines to 120% power. Gives you more boost, but does create more wear on the ship. "I canna guarantee she'll hold together, cap'n!"

I go back to the VAB and replace that single LV-N with a Mainsail! Booyeah!

On a more serious note, I do try to engineer away from 15-minute burns. I'll happily send a bigger rocket with more or bigger engines if the burn is too long. Sometimes practicality trumps efficiency. Hermann was afraid of heights anyhow

(and for the burns that do take a while and that I can't engineer away for whatever reason, I read the forums or books or watch Let's Play series on youtube or such with a little command line timer I scribbled up counting down)

A thought: Is there a mod that will auto-cut throttle at the end? Specifically one that ONLY does that and nothing else..

I have been gifted(or cursed, depending on how you interpret it) with the ability to easily drop my mind into some sort of alternate universe that I can build and modify things freely around. This makes time fly by fast, so it's ridiculously useful during those massive burns.

Unfortunately, it's not so useful in real life. But that's for another story.

Is it me or does this sound like the ability Nikola Tesla* supposedly had?

*my username has nothing to do with Nikola Tesla, though

Our abilities seem to be fairly similar, although Nikola's seems to be more well-developed than mine, as he was actually able to control when he does it(to an extent) and were actually helpful to him. On the other hand, mine have the tendency to randomly engage without my choice, and other than helping me pass the time more quickly, don't help me in any way, and only work to recall recent things I have seen - anything older than three days must've been VERY funny/scary for me to remember, and are most likely not to be solutions to problems(although exceptions did happen).

Also, when I do happen to engage in this AU, I still am connected with my body in our universe, and since I manipulate things in that universe with my hands and produce noises with my mouth, I will often act in things that will make anyone else near me to think I have a mental issue or something. Which may explain why I am such a social outcast in real life, considering how I tend to use this ability this a LOT.

Well, today I found myself whistling an Aaron Neville song... I'm not too proud of that.. But also I had a beer!!!

First beer is not an excuse. Second why didnn't you have more than one? Third, to quote a line from Guardians of the Galaxy, "Who!?!"
