What tech tree do you use and why?

I've only used the stock version and the suggested one for KSP-I.

I have been looking for something that spreads things out better and am curious what version everyone else has been enjoying.

So, what tech tree do you use and why? :-)

I've tried stock and Better Than Starting Manned, but ended up not liking any of them and going back to sandbox. When I want to make things harder on myself, I have tons of interesting mods to do that job! :)

To me, the tech tree is a whole different game, really annoying at first and then absurdly easy to exploit once you can reach the moons. Contracts improved it, but I still prefer roleplaying.

I use the stock tree but with self imposed limits on what can go where type thing. For my probes only things I can send back to KSC are thing that would be true data; goo containers and mat bays have to be collected and samples returned to Kerbin. I would have loved BTSM but the system would have conflicted with other mods making it very unenjoyable, and certain elements needed tweaking, imho, to make it more enjoyable. So if anyone out there knows how to design techtrees make one that is probe/rover first and manned missions secondary, and allows other modes to play into it so the user can decide what they want out of it.

I use the stock mostly even when playing "sandbox". I edit the persistent file in science mode to add science points. Then I set the points back to zero after unlocking the whole tree.

I do this so that I can play a "historic" game and still collect and recover science points.

Stock, because installing custom ones looks really complicated, I just want one where you start with planes.

This. Planes and their cockpits, then probes and 0.625 plus a little bit of 1.25, then the rest of 1.25 and etc...

Stock.

Basically a different tech tree would have to offer loads of stuff (lights, ladders, structural parts etc.) right from the beginning - but as KSP science does not improve existing technology beyond adding tougher engines, this would be rather dull.

Even moving all the plane parts to the beginning would thin out everything later ... maybe with the incoming new parts though ... anyone got a tree editor? :P:wink:
