here :)

I copied the pic location and uploaded it to imgur and posted from there. There may be another way to do it *shrugs*

It is incredible though :)

Edit: Removed redundant picture

I did really like this one too, with Earth for scale.

I'm not clear, is this an actual image or a rendering? Awesome either way.

It's the sun, seen through the appropriate filters. There may have been some digital processing, but not necessarily.

@OP: Could you link to the original site this came from? Thanks!

That's cool... surely all of that is because of the H-alpha filter, no ? (including the limb brightening)

Yes, this is best viewed through H-alpha filter, and that's what the dude did. It's quite fascinating how we're able to see such things in detail from the planet's surface.

Hydrogen and time, everybody.

Thinking about all that amazing complexity that arises when a bunch of hydrogen finds itself in one place gives me chills.

Stars, though. Just wow.

Just love the fact that our 1/2 day, 1/2 degrees buddy is a hot plasma with all it's complexity. Different colors, different features... "dry ground" on ND filter and "grass" on H-alpha...

Anyway, planet ? I hope that's in the sense of it wandering against the "fixed" distant stars.

I've dabbled with telescopes and astrophotography a bit, never with sun filters, though it interests me. So when I saw this image I started thinking about how it was made and thought that hmm the sun, it's nice because you don't need to stay up all night to observe it... or might the image be clearer at night, like it is with the moon?

oh wait
