[WIP] Orion and Space Launch System (SLS) Development Thread

I've thought the nozzle is extendable to change expansion, or throat-to-nozzle ratio, for operation in atmosphere and in vacuum.

ICPS has RCS thrusters near the engine, I've seen them somewhere on the net. They are tiny tho. There are 8 of them, two on each of the sides.

I don't think so, although that may change when I get it in game and test it. I plan on making a full size version of the rocket first, on which the ICPS will be 5m, but I will also make a downscaled version of it at some point to use in regular KSP. For that version I think the ICPS will be 3.75m since that is the size I will make the Orion pod.

Yes I like this idea greatly, I've been using stuff from the Chaka Monkey Exploration Odyssey for my SLS and it goes from 6.6m SLS core to 3.75m orion :) but please make the orion it's full 7 (or 6) seater 3.75m pod

With Chaka Monkey Exploration Odyssey pod you can give it the bobcat pod 6 seater.

Yeah i don't even use that orion, I've gone through at least 20 hours of cfg and texure editing to get it to work with the Taurus pod and parts from Aerojet Kerbodyne for the service module.

Is this still happening?
Please let this be happening still, great start on all the models.

Hi, yeah it's still happening. Just had a lot of deadlines and work for the past month and really haven't even had a chance to work on this. I plan on resuming work on it in the next week though since my deadlines are done then, so expect updates soon, hopefully starting with the Orion pod since that seems to be getting the most interest.

Quality work. Very well done! However there is one sls mods in development.http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/85275-WIP-NASA-SLS-Preview-Release-1-%288-5-2014%29?highlight=sls+development . At the moment that mod seems to be mostly sls payloads with the lanchers made by YANFRET.

[Edit]

Very sorry, I didnt see that you mentioned that.

This could be a less parts and low poly adaption for older/worse machines than BEASTMODE9000 megacomputers.

Is the escape system properly divided into parts? There should be a control motor (RCS), a separation motor and an abort motor. Very few KSP escape towers get that one right.

Another thing you should take a look at is the movable nozzle for the ICPS. The nozzle on the real RL-10B-2 is extendable to save space in the interstage. Also, the ICPS should likely have some sort of RCS for roll control, ullage and steering in coast phase. Since you're making an RSS version, this is an important consideration, since you don't have SAS for that.

No. Place a docking port on the top and then this is how it goes. Set an action group for the docking port to decouple and set one for abort incase of emrgency. In abort, set the decoupler to seperate and the launch escape ssem to fire. When abort is pressed, You then press action group one to separate the launch escape tower.  And then you activate your parachutes. Although deployed them when you ready.
