B9 Cargo ssto's

This guy will carry 40 tons into orbit, but only with FAR. You're going to find that lofting 2.5m-sized cargoes into orbit with stock aerodynamics to be a tedious task at best. Nevertheless, hope this provides some inspiration!

Any more shots of that? Trying my hand at a non-delta wing SSTO and am using this as a basis.

Technically not SSTO given the droptanks, but I think the title actually meant spaceplane :) I've used FAR since about a week into KSP so I can't even remember what stock aero is really like.

Heavy family:

Left side, bulk lifter; right side heavy lift ( 130t payload to LKO class, might manage more but haven't tried yet ) and in the foreground ultra-heavy or long range, depending how much rocket mode burning is done.

I have a huge family of variations of this thing:

You can swap the middle three sections ( or even pull one out completely ) and it's still balanced.

And er, working on this, no idea if I'll actually need it :P

The S2 based ones will usually lift off at the end of the KSC runway in jet mode, although if they're particularily heavy they'll run off with the nose lifting. The big ones... well they tend to go off the end regardless :) the runway just isn't long enough. Can always take off in rocket mode although even then it's a bit of a coin toss as to whether they'll pull up, switch over at about 200m/s and you've got enough momentum for the jet thrust to build up again ( which sounds a little off, given the SABRE is really a rocket in both modes ).

Having thrown Kerbin-side into my install I may put a longer runway down at KSC.

Your rear wheels ara too far from CoM. I have made few planes that you can use as ideas. You can find craft files, pictures and descriptions in my entry post for SSTO chalange thread. Those planes are build for FAR, but even if you don't want to use FAR some basic principles are the same.

I don't consider myself expert, but I have made picture to help explain idea behind my designs. You can find description in mentioned thread and here is link for picture. Following basic concept that wings that provide lift is good idea I have created small plane that is able to lift 30t of payload to orbit. Bigger planes based on B9 parts are able to lift 200 - 350t. I'm caried away with oversized plane, I know, just researching designs to find what will suit me best.

If you don't want to install mods required for those craft, you can use smallest plane in serial, it share same landing gear concept as bigger planes.

I haven't made many large SSTOs lately, still using some of my old workhorses.

SP-409 can haul 120t to a 100km x 100km orbit.

SP-14V VTOL/STOVL can haul 40 tons VTOL in to a 100km x 100km orbit

SP-11 Medium SSTO, hauls about 60-72tons into a 100km x 100km orbit

And my current line of military SSTOs.

From left to right.

F/A-106A Thundergod, F-114, F/A-113, FB-1/SC-1

Because the SB-1 is barely in the picture..

It can haul about 10 tons to a 100km x 100km orbit or carry 6 500lb bombs inside of its cargo bay.

Then there is this, my current light cargo SSTO project.

Any chance you could provide a .craft file for that? Thanks!

Man I forgot all about the F/A-106 Thundergod.   I have to bring that back.. it was my favorite SSTO fighter I ever made.

Wasn't my best but it was my most successful download wise.
