Currency(s)?

I have an idea, This might be considered a bit of role playing but irdc, If you go into the rocket builders thread you see a BUNCH of companies doing their best to give you the best craft possible, heck, thats most of the motto's you'll see there! BUT, there is nothing the companies gain when they release ships, sure, popularity, but I was thinking that companies deserve a little bit more than people looking at their crafts only to abandon them in the load menu, I was thinking we could do some sort of ingame and inforums currency, like, Kuros, Koins, Kollars, or something like that, to give companies, and people who release ships in general a little more than just respect from veteran builders like Zekes, or Marex333, or people like them. How would companies gain this currency? Simple, you pay to access a file on the forums, and you cannot re-distribute the files without the permission of the original publisher; if you do you will be given a warning and the thread will be removed, do it again and you get banned, Yes people can post craft files on youtube, but heck, it'll add an aspect to the game that hasn't really been implemented yet; one problem you might think of is: can't people just create random forum accounts and buy crafts on another one when one account runs out of money? Yes, but, people will start out with a VERY small ammount of money, enough for probably 1-2 ships, so it'll cause them to create tons of accounts, the mods/admins of the forums can see what email is used for each account, and then send an email to the person who does that kind of thing telling them to stop or have their email verification revoked every time they try to create a new account. Post your thoughts below!

Ehh I really don't like this idea :/

It'd be hard to track and prevent abuse, and it's unfair to prevent people from downloading something if they don't have enough coins, especially new members.

I know some other sites use this system and that's fine, but not here.

It will also cause people to get more creative in ship building, if your company fails, you lose money, a problem with this is: How do people working for companies get money and not just the owner of the company? the person who built the ship would post it in the spacecraft exchange like any other craft, and not in the companies thread, the company owner would put a link to the ship builders thread in the first post of the company thread, and then the person who made it would get the money. and then there's a problem of people hacking to get money, just make the code as complicated as possible and that'll cause people to give up after a while of trying to figure out how to hack in money; another way to get money would be to buy it in the KSP store, a set ammount of Koins for a set price, ranging from a little bit of koins for cheap, to a lot of koins for well, a medium amount of money. so it wouldn't be limited to just selling and buying ships; a third way to gain money is to be active on the forums! say, i dunno, maybe 50 koins for every day you log in? and a bonus for those who post actively on the forums!

I have to agree - there's no point to making this competitive, it would just hurt people. And it would stifle creativity, not to mention being hard to enforce.

Maybe we can make an ingame "currency" for fun. Maybe an OKTO with some widgets or something.

Perhaps different kinds of widgets would be worth "more"?

So you might have a kerbal in a truck carrying their "money" with them and they decouple a big block of OKTOs and those are recovered and the kerbal gets a jet?

Unfortunately any type of "role playing" has been banned entirely due to past events on the forums; so something like this wouldn't be permitted.

I would like to point out that, while we're unlikely to implement any sort of forum currency for the aforementioned reasons, if you find a particular craft to be enjoyable, you can use the handy six-pointed star in the lower left corner of their post to add to the user's reputation :)

Yeah, I really don't like this idea, sorry.

Crafts should be free to download, any attempt to make a currency for downloading crafts and stuff could be interesting to, like, 10% of companies. And meanwhile, you have all the "consumers" *synonym that probably can't be used on this forum for EXTREMELY angry here*. It really helps nobody, except add a little extra bit of something for companies. (I also doubt anywhere near 75% of the people making crafts now are gonna use the currency if it was ever implemented, thus making paying for crafts mandatory a bad idea, since everyone else is giving them away for free.)

Crafts should stay free. I don't really like the idea of the companies becoming ACTUAL companies, requiring strategy etc. to stay afloat. I would think of them as kewl people sharing what they did, not people trying to undercut the other guy and shaving everything off to try to get ahead. (For virtual currency too, what?) The difference between a megacorp and some person making nice things and giving them out for the world to enjoy.

If someone wants to try this, sure, but I sincerely doubt they'll get any "buyers" when the other guy next to you in the forum is giving away their craft files for free. Free is the ultimate undercut, can't get much cheaper than that.

Really, if you want to share how much you like a craft, don't throw em some weird currency, throw them some reputation. It's a better gesture than "You need my money? fine fine...."

Just my two funds.

tl;dr: Information wants to be free.
