MK3 propulsion

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if there are going to be any MK3 compatible parts additions that go well with the MK3 ship parts? I have used the MK3 several times, but would love to use it more often, but it seems there is no way to make it look good with the default propulsion parts.

So do I, but I'd prefer a 2.5m turbojet (ideally both!). RAPIERs are nice for keeping the mass down, but they're not the best for getting to space :)

I really really do hope not. Jets (and RAPIERS) are already insanely overpowered. If there would be a 2.5m RAPIER that is 'the best for getting to space' then nobody would ever use any of the other rocket engines available. Might as well remove all the other engine parts from the game then.

And what's wrong looking about this: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/104642-Mk3-SSTO-VTOL-craft

Well, in a perfect world these larger jets would come out in the same update as the stock aerodynamics changes, where (we can hope) the devs won't feel the need to totally OP jets to overcome the massive drag in the lower atmosphere.

Heh, I guess you've never tried getting a decent sized Mk3 spaceplane off the ground then. As long as they'd be placed near the end of the tech tree, does it really matter if they're "better" than the other engines? As it stands RAPIERs aren't able to lift huge loads to orbit unless you use a lot of them, which of course increases part count and lag. As 5thHorseman said, with updated stock aerodynamics those engines wouldn't need to be as powerful as they currently are, and RAPIERs in rocket mode are not very efficient.
