[1.2.1] Outer Planets Mod (2.1) - Active development has moved, see first post for new thread

I'm aware that Saturn's aurora is blue, but the point is Sarnus maybe the analogue of Saturn, but it is not Saturn. Eudae55 made this very clear to me. The Aurora started off as blue but the contrast was a bit odd compared to Sarnus' darker reddy-brown colours.

I'll see if I can throw up some pictures a bit later to show what I mean.

Edit:

Here we go. I'm sure this will be a matter of opinion :)

I like the look of that yellow aurora! Ever thought of teaming up to make one awesome Astronomer's config? :D

Does scansat work with these?

Yes it does.

Even the anomaly detection works for me.

I know Plock is atm just a placeholder but I tried to map it and this is what I got after 5 years scanning in a 795 km Orbit:

My question is wheter the low rotation speed will be a feature for the final Plock? I personally like this challenge.

I'm very excited about all the different cloud/atmosphere configs. Can't wait to try them all :D

I have observed that happening with scansat in 64k a lot, scanning minmus takes months if not years if I do not adjust the longitude of the ascending node manually. This means we will need either more satellites, or some serious dv budgets for getting some scanning done - and I like that as well :)

I hope this doesn't sound rude, but this made me laugh. I just have a mental image of some poor technician slummed over his work station.

Yes this happens with tidally lock bodies.

You basically have to orbit the moon/planet until it does one complete orbit around it's parent body or keep manually changing your inclination until you have scanned the whole body.

It can be done with one satellite, but bring extra fuel or time warp a hundred years or so until Plock does one full rotation.

rofl it's plock i was sending a mapsat too as well. Might have to change my mission parameters.

Can anyone please post the maximum distances Kerbin gets away from the new planets? I'm at work and I don't have access to KSP right now and I'm setting up a Remote Tech cfg file to adjust the range of the antennas to cover the new planets because I couldn't find any update for RT to be used with this mod. I'm also using Jumbo32(3.2x rescale of the Solar System) with this. After I have it all fixed, my trip to Plock will take 17 years according to Transfer Window Planner. :)

Thanks. I'll go ahead and setup an antenna with 2600Gm range. Guess I'll be fine with 3.2x scale now.

I have posted a config for RT a couple pages back. It changes the range to 800Gm so you could dl it and change the range to "2600000000000"

I've found my config that I used in 0.25. I modified the range to 800Gm, energy, angle, entrycost, and cost (in VAB). Also gave it a new name, desc, and manufacturer.

This config can also be used for the other planet packs that support Kopernicus.

You can download it here.

Sorry if you guys have mentioned this already, but I couldn't find it in the thread:

How did you get around the issue of Kopernicus + RSS overriding the heightmaps of default planets when a new heightmap is applied to one of the new planets?

Thanks man but I've already mutliplied all the antennas range by 4 on the cfg file. And got the Reflectron GX-128 and CommTech-1 boosted up to reach the new planets on Jumbo32. Gonna test it when I get home.

the point is Sarnus maybe the analogue of Saturn, but it is not Saturn.

That's true, and if we can have purple planets and green gas giants, pretty much anything goes coloration wise. I only suggested it because After looking at Jupiter and Saturn's auroras, I somehow got the idea that all gas giants had blue ones regardless.

Thanks for whipping up some examples so quickly, I have to say I do like the contrast of the light blue one, although the yellow adds more variety.

My config includes blue auroras.

Oh thanks, I did find your .cfg's while hunting through this thread, but I missed any pictures of the results.

Oh please yes.

*Snip*

You're right - all the gas giants auroras are blue, but figured that could get a little dull. As you'll see, the OPM GGs all have a tinge in their auroras that compliments their color. But Sarnus is strikingly yellow while all the others do lean towards blue.

But if people want to stick to realism then I'll change them. Eudae55 has the files now, so we'll see how his testing goes :)

I like it. Now, being that the ksp universe is massive, and infinitely expeansive, I want you to do something for the community. With the coding given, you can make planets and give them moons. So, do somethign spectacular.

Make a small galaxy of (maybe ) 3-4 stars. Make the stars act like planets orbiting a really big star. Except the really big star in the center is a black hole. Which would requrie some kind of engineering color-wise. Keep the exact size of the kerbolar system, make a few others to visit, give the blackhole some worth int he very center.

I like this idea.

That's actually been done! At one point you could install StarSystems and add planets to them. Trust me, it was amazing! Unfortunately, both StarSystems and PlanetFacotry CE (used to add the planets) were no longer developed, and the new planet-creation mod, Kopernicus, is not compatible. Maybe if you're lucky StarSystems and PlanetFactory CE will work with 0.90, but chances are it'll be very buggy.

You linked the old thread for star systems, but yeah Kopernicus does not work, even with the 0.90 version.

Augustus is working on a new star system via kopernicus. For now his plan is to combine most of the planet packs into 1 pack
