Erasing strut connectors in VAB

Recommended Posts

On a strut, the selectable part is the first 'end piece' that you place when adding them to the craft. No other part of the strut can be selected to move it once it's placed. The piece is very small, and is only selectable on the 'outside' face, where the pole of the strut sticks out of it, not from the back or sides. It can be very difficult to select if this bit is in an awkward place, such as inside a wing or between two fuel tanks. For that reason it's a good idea to use them sparingly and carefully, and consider how likely you are to want to move them or remove them after you place them.

If there's a faster way to remove them I'd love to hear it too.

Hope this is of some help.

To add my little bit, if you hate them from the very first beginning they stick on your craft kill'em with ctrl+z.

Simple question to which I cannot find an answer - how do you get rid of them from your rocket? I seem to be unable to select them or in any other way interact with them...

If you wish to get a strut off that you just placed, then you can do Ctrl+Z (Ctrl+Y undoes the undo command) For a strut that you placed a while ago, and can't use Ctrl+Z, then I think you have to click on the part of the strut that you first placed. For example, if I placed a strut from part A, to part B, then depending on which part I clicked first, that is the one that you have to click on. I am not 100% percent sure of this, so if I am wrong, then sorry.

There's a mod for this : Part Wizard works in 0.90

Part Wizard is a vehicle design utility plugin that adds a few conveniences when building your next strut/booster carrier.

  • Provides a list of parts with part highlighting for easier identification.

  • Allows deleting of parts from the list on eligible parts.
  • Allows complete control of symmetry on eligible parts.

  • Shows either all parts or only those that are hidden from the editor's Parts List. (Helpful in finding obsolete parts when mod authors make updates.)

Handy mod if you are like me and place struts everywhere. Just go to the PartWizard and highlight the part then you can selectively remove parts without goining near the vehicle.
