Why I'm enjoying KSP version .90

A lot of it is due to this mod: Science Funding. It's lets me play career mode without having to deal with a single contract. It awards funds based on how much reputation and science you get on a mission and frankly, it's made the Career mode incredibly enjoyable.

Plus, I'm really liking Kerbal Reputation and the ability of pilot Kerbals to do SAS. Even better, you have to earn it and there seems to be a good balance in that earning, i.e. not too easy, not too hard.

The upgradable buildings are nice also. Still feels a bit rough in spots, but again, having to earn certain abilities feels right and acts as a good learning tool.

But most of all, no contracts!

I like the reworked contracts system. Now funds are actually a factor in my space program and you have to make strategic decisions early on- such as doing a few small contracts before gearing up for a major one. For example, I've just had to upgrade mission control to level 3 so that I can take on a 'build a new outpost on Duna' (with wheels) at the same time as the 'Explore Duna' and 'Explore Ike' contracts. The funding advance from each paid for the upgrade. The crew for the Duna expedition will be trained on Mun and Minmus exploration. It seems more like a real space program this way- do some commercial satellite launches for profit so you can then go off and explore. :)

One thing I've still never made use of is the administration building. Early in the game, you don't really have enough of anything for trading them off to be worth it.

I don't understand the Administration Building, the wording is rather vague and it doesn't seem important enough to matter.

Totally agree.

In 0.25 I had a look in the admin building. No eye deer.

0.90 shirley Squad will have made it clearer now. Nope. Legless, genitalless no eye deer.

But I am sure there are some accountants out there that will have "exciting" screen shots of what they have achieved in there.

Admin building can be pretty handy and/or destructive if you're not careful. I boned a career up when I chose to kill all my reputation for science points. Sure, I advanced the science pretty quick, but I stopped getting really good contracts as my reputation didn't keep moving up. Eventually I had a couple launch accidents and then I was out of money.

I am enjoying .90 immensely because I have fallen in love with the new SPH/VAB build tools. The offset and rotate tools, once I really understood how to use them, have allowed me to build things I would never have been able to before. I am completely in love with the new functions, and am fiddling at levels of precision I could only have dreamed of before.

When you recover a vessel, some of the figures are bracketed, eg:

Funds +1000 (+200)

Rep +20 (-4)

Is that something to do with the selected policy? I'm diverting some of my rep to cash, and the figures look about right if you're generous with the rounding, but I'm not sure if the Kerbals skills are also affecting it. It should be made more clear - perhaps a tooltip explaining the adjustments. Do you receive the sum? So in the the above example, 1200 funds and 16 rep?

I'd also like to see some charts similar to Sim City - I'm over 180 days in (using some mods to slow progress) and I want to see the effects my strategies have had over time.

Shameless self-promotion - the new career made me play with the settings a bit and I threw this together: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/103675-0-90-ImprovedStrategies-v0-12?p=1609580#post1609580

But in any case, I find the new career a lot more fun, especially in a heavily modified game, currently playing around with FAR, interstellar, B-9 and a bunch of other mods, Still enjoying the game after 200h of gameplay :D

The new contracts system is not so new for me, though, since I used the mode before it got stock'd... I did miss the contracts window, so I got me another mod that makes it larger than the little banner-like thing in the corner the stock one is.

subtract the stuff in parentheses from the first number to get your original numbers, before your picked strategies

and yes, it's rounded down to whole numbers afaik

The new VAB controls, including switching between VAB and SPH mode in either facility, is one of the best changes this game has ever undergone.

I'm enjoying the contracts, especially the survey ones in tandem with the KerbinSide/Kerbal Konstructs mods. Get a survey, buy an airfield nearby, do the contract and earn enough to afford the purchase plus a bit more. I'm liking figuring out how to piggyback the high return contracts (satellites, mostly) into my missions and I'm looking forward to the funds glut I'm about to have when I finally get the money to unlock the next tier of R&D.

All this was because of 0.90.
