What is this texture?

Recommended Posts

It seems to be a hatch. I would guess the cross is supposed to look raised, i.e. so it can be twisted (the wheel/handle/whatever on a hatch), no idea about the slot.

I've always seen it as this too: A hatch with submarine-style doorwheel (cross) for detaching it and a handle (line) for lifting it out of the way inside the craft. No idea what the ovals are, likely greeble. The yellow triangle appears to be a warning sign which is too small for text.

It's existed since before the game had detailed textures, and seems to have become a skeuomorph for "attachment point that crew could possibly transfer though but is definitely not a docking port, please attach one".

1) It's gray.

2) It's where the giant Phillips screwdriver goes.

3) It's the coin slot

4) They're elongated circles

5) It's a warning sticker sans any warning.

Hope that helped.

Bless you

As lame as that texture is, don't you think they would still try to connect the cross to the circle if it really was a doorwheel?

The big horizontal line is actually where a handhold goes, if you look inside the Hitchhiker Storage Container.

I never really thought about it. I mean, I knew it was a hatch, probably a crew transfer path, but I never really thought about what it was based on. I've grown too attached to it. I don't want it to go.

The curved-corner segment shape they'd need for that isn't one of the basic autoshapes drawing programs have which the image appears to be composed of.

Alternatively, a larger one of these:

That's one element confirmed:

The same seems to be true for similar symbols on the outside:

Whatever the actual mechanism is, the circle and plus appear to be the means of unlatching the door. The warning triangle orientation also serves as a reference for any hinge direction the door might have.

:)  funny -  ok i study at moment some "Airlock- hatch" option for another project -  but this comment i like it very much... I would very much like to have - I believe I make such an "insert coin" slot at my house door

i think the this airlock-hatch form the japanese KIBO ISS module is not bad for a KSP mod. - it looks very nice.

( frankly - i never like the stock hatches - its a to procedural pragmatic design style)
