What parts need to be in the game before it is complete?

Recommended Posts

So I think a lot of us out there feel that some essential parts are missing from KSP. Here you can discuss, debate, etc. what parts should be added before KSP is complete.

Here are the parts that have been recommended so far:

0.625 meter SRB

2.5 meter SRB

stock fairings (non-procedural)

a more airline-like Mk3 cockpit

A simple, multiuse hinge part, allowing for things like robotic arms, variable-geometry fighters, helicopters, etc.

3.75 meter SAS/docking modules

a larger assortment of engines, each with their pros and cons (i.e. higher cost but more efficient, less thrust but high gimbal, etc.)

triangular structural panels

curved structural panels

a larger hab module of the hitchhiker for 3.75 meter parts

narrower but taller 2 Kerbal lander can

radially mounted single kerbal habitation pod

high gimbal engines (for shuttles) in 1.25 meter and 2.5 meter sizes

more 0.625 meter engines (jets, nukes, aerospikes, RAPIERS, etc.)

smaller engines and tanks, like sounding rockets

more science parts

expanding/inflatable parts

new hub for sation/base construction

more space station parts

radial mounted probe cores

3.75 meter orbital engines

3.75 meter monoprop tanks

3.75 meter probe cores and command pods

electric propellers

surface-mounted LFO tanks

more rover parts

"solar panel film" to coat parts

3x3 structural panel

Mk1 hitchhiker

kerbal tethers

more part sizes (.125, 1.875, 5, 7.5, and 10 meter parts)

attachable strut in EVA

I'm with you on the hinge. Totally agree.

I would like to see triangular structural panels.

And perhaps curved structural panels if stock fairings are not provided.

In lieu of increased part types perhaps adding a tweakable capability to adjust sizes, etc.

Depends what Squad decide is the starting point of the storyline.

To me it should be earlier than the current starting point.

So Need/Good-

-Tiny Engines full range of engines in the .625 range including Jets, a Nuke, Aerospike, Rapier

Some come earlier in tech tree some later compared to bigger sisters.

-Tiny Tanks to match above.

-Tinier Engines & tanks - Basically sounding rockets mod

-More Science parts. Pick any well known probe and I should be able to replicate the science parts of that probe.

ie. Voyager - Cameras, IR Spectrometer, Plasma Detectors, Cosmic Ray, Low energy particle detector, Magnetometers,....

-Hinge and expanding parts. So Cargo can be lower out of a Cargo Bay then get cargo to expand.

I'm all for more science parts as long as they do something actually useful, and not just fixation as points harvesters.

Like tie certain kinds of science to certain nodes on the tech tree. So you need surface science to develop some lander parts, and maybe space science (radiation levels in robot, etc) for habitation modules, etc.

What about larger 0.625 meter engines? Like the V-2's engine?

That's a great idea!

Maybe part tests give science towards engine development?

Great list of Ideas so far.

I agree with Chaos_Forge tho... Electric Propellers would be a great addition, I would like more sizes than only 0.625 tho, but the idea is sound.

I would like to also have "solar panel film" so you could coat say rovers with...

Case/point: Spirit/Opportunity Rovers.

If I could only have ONE new stock part, it would be a larger SRB.

I look at what nearly everyone is doing with stock parts in heavy lift projects - various Mk3 space shuttles - bundling 4 S1 SRB's in a quad adapter.

That's 5 parts, plus fiddling with strut links to tie them together. Now I'm at 9 parts. And I need a pair of them... 18 parts against the parts limit (in career mode) - just to get off the ground.

No rockets taller or heavier, but there was the 8.75 m shuttle (not including wings), and the proposed bfr or mct or mars colonial transporter.

Just get a 1.25 m part and 6x cubic struts and place mk1x1 panels on it for 1.875 m parts. You can also place a lot of cubic struts radially to a 1.25 m part and offset it slightly (turn off angle snapping).

I think we need a 5m, 7.5m, and 10m parts, this fits into the current system, just skipping a size each time after 5m.

Here is how I think it should be.

Mk1 sizes (diameter is shown, the smallest part of it)

.125/.3125m (not rockets, just like small drones and mini unmanned lander parts/pieces)

.625

1.25

1.875 (maybee, you can make 1.875 parts like I mentioned earlier)

2.5

3.75

5 (technically size 4)

7.5 (skipping a size)

10 (skipping a size) (close to the size of the spaceX proposed mars colonial transporter, just rounded to nearest size that fits in the ksp size pattern)

Mk2 size parts (the smallest diameter is shown first aka height, not width)

.635 x 1.35 (.1 m extra for space for cargo in the bays)

1.5 x 2.5 (extra space for cargo bay room)

2.5 x 3.75 (extra space again)

Mk3 size parts (again, smallest size is shown first aka width not height)

1.95 x 2.5 (.25 m extra space in the cargo)

3.2 x 3.75 (extra space for the cargo bay)

4.45 x 5 (extra space again)

5.7 x 7.5 (extra space)

That tells what more sizes I think should exist. I also want tethers for kerbals. I would enjoy having hinges very much.
