Make Part Lists Searchable and Scrollable

Recommended Posts

As a fairly inexperienced player, I wouldn't have much use of the searchable function but I can see it's use for people who play more. I can't remember names of most things :P

The scrollable feature though... That'd be a game changer :D

I would hope the search function searches every detail for a part, not just its name so typing in "sol" will return parts that are solid rockets or use solid fuel or solar panels or any other part matching the keyword in the name, description, or tag in the part information. Make it an active search that filters as you type. No need to remember names.

Searchable, definitely yes.

Scrollable, not as sure. There's already enough functionality tied to the scroll wheel that makes the game difficult to play on a laptop, some of the scrolling in the game can only be done with a scroll wheel (like the expanded part descriptions). If it's implemented in such a way that it's usable without a scrollwheel, then fine. Honestly though, I'd prefer keyboard shortcuts for changing pages and categories.

I would hope the arrow to flip part pages remain. don't see why it wouldn't. :)

How about a scrollbar that's just not mapped to the mouse wheel; that is, you need to drag it? Having the parts list be scrollable instead of page-based (for a given category) would let you have a group of related parts that are currently split over a page boundary be visible at the same time. I can't count how many times that's been an issue for me.

Shortcuts for switching categories would be nice though, plus maybe some fixed key bindings for the stock ones (1 = capsules, 2 = fuel tanks, etc).

I do want the part list to be searchable, but to be honest I can't see myself using it very much - I can never remember the names of any parts except the ones I use constantly or have very memorable names, though I suppose if search included manufacturer and such that wouldn't matter.
