Could a Gyroscopic inertial thruster ever work?
JedTech replied to FREEFALL1984's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Definitely not possible with todays technology. But if KSP takes those kind of forces into account, then it may be possible to create something like that in the game. -
Could a Gyroscopic inertial thruster ever work?
JedTech replied to FREEFALL1984's topic in Science & Spaceflight
It occurs to me that if we had an incredibly fast spinning gyroscope that we could utilize the spin of the Earth in order to gain momentum. As the Earth turns, the gyroscopic movement of our ultra fast spinning device could resist the turn of the Earth and begin to move away from its initial location relative to the Earth. -
After looking around for a long time, I chose this as my first Parts mod. I am really loving the docking ports, fuel tanks, unmanned pod, and nuclear reactors. Thanks!

[1.10.0] Final Frontier - kerbal individual merits 1.10.0-3485
JedTech replied to Nereid's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Thanks for all the work you are doing on this, I love this plugin! Sadly, I can't get on the computer to test until Sunday. -
Hey Ziv, Laythe: I've added my Laythe swimming photos (I didn't get a great shot of Jool in the background (I tried to timewarp and wait but I think Jool must have been directly overhead) Tylo: Funny story, its in that angle on purpose. On my first EVA my ship was tilted in the other direction and I was able to climb the ladder down the ladder just fine. I was then able to climb back up the ladder, but upon reaching the platform on the ship, I would just fall off. SO, I got on the ladder, and then I raised the rear landing leg (as you can see in the picture). This gave me an angle that allowed me to finish climbing on the ladder and then slide toward the hatch door to grab a hold of it. I then did a second EVA with the leg still raised (this is when the picture was taken). To get back on, I raised the leg, got on the ladder and repeated the same steps again. Refueling Mission: I think I misinterpreted what a refueling mission was. I did not have a refueling mission that went to Jool. I just had 1 fueling mission on Kerbin to dedicated to topping off my tanks before the base left for Jool. (see picture with the long tanks attached to the top left docking port of my base) Science Points: I've added the science points pictures. Here is the break down: 9683.7 SP was brought home in the Lab (attached to the Jool base) 120 SP received from bringing the Lander home from Bop (the last moon I landed on) 16.8 SP gathered from extra science I performed while parachuting in a Kerbin Biome 2863 SP gathered via transmission of science points. These were only for science points that are not required for the challenge (High/near orbit stuff). (please subtract as needed if some of these do not meet your criteria) Thanks for the compliments Speeding Mullet! During my EVA on Pol I didn't attempt any amazing Pol circumnavigation stunts. I just flew a few Kilometers (5.5) to the nearest mountain top.

I've also been learning about KW and B9; and LLL seems to have them beat on the Ram usage front.
-
I've read that! Your work towards using existing textures and reducing memory usage is one of the main reasons I am excited about LLL! I like to turn graphics all the way up and I'd like to keep my ships appearing fairly stock-like. So that's why I'm leaning towards LLL lite or SXT. Do you know if RLA-stockalike uses the stock textures?
-
Hey Lack, I haven't used any part mods yet because I like to keep things as stock as possible. But I really like what I see in LLL so I am considering using the Lite or SXT edition. What are your goals for the SXT edition? I really like your 5 way RCS, will that be included in the SXT edition?

I've completed my Jool Mission! I'm submitting for JEBEDIAH'S LEVEL (0.23, MechJeb, Kethane, KAS, 4 Launches for assembly, No refueling needed, 5 Kerbals (2:Science Lab, 2:Mk2Landercan, 1:Mk1Landercan), Science Lab, All purpose Lander, 2 Moon Tugs, I left 1 Moon Tug in Laythe orbit for Kethane mapping, 12,683 science points (collected high/near/highatmos/lowatmos/surface science readings from all moons). Brought base back to land the Lab as per Ziv's request. Not an easy piece of equipment to land! Pictures! See the Title and Descriptions to read more about my mission story.

Thanks, I looked into it further. It looks promising. I am a little weary of the module manager, but just because I'm new to modding and don't want to dive too deep.
-
I've looked at goodspeed. I don't like that you have to put a pump on every tank. I'd put one device on my ship, but not one on every tank..
-
Great App! I would love it if it could remember my settings when I come back to a ship.

So part of my plan to land on Tylo, was to use one of my Moon Tugs as a stage that I would drop. However the Moon Tug has a very low Thrust to Weight ratio. After many hours of attempts I finally was able to utilize the Moon Tug well enough to preserve enough fuel in my main lander for Ascent to orbit. And then I land and go out to EVA, and Jeb accidentally falls off the lander and dies... Load Quick Save. I was finally able to complete the mission.. (although I broke 3 of 4 landing gear during the landing). I hate Tylo. I'm never coming back.

VeryLKO Emergency Rescue Mission
JedTech replied to JedTech's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I'm not sure how to take science from a lab. Also I hear you can take science from a Mystery Goo container and store it in the lab and at the same time clean out the Mystery Goo container. However I can only clean the Mystery Goo container if I transmit the science first. Can you clarify this for me? The Lab was really big, so I'm not sure that the Kerbals could have done it themselves. -
VeryLKO Emergency Rescue Mission

So I didn't end up doing anything too crazy. I took off slightly to the west but nearly vertical. It was timed to intersect the Prototype Station. I then did a velocity match (with help of MechJeb). Docked and boosted to a safe altitude. I then used KAS (for the first time) to attach 6 parachutes around the station. I then proceeded with a parachute assisted powered landing. See landing pictures below. Don't you love the lighting on my station? Lights are also pointed upwards to assist with docking. -

That movie was awesome! It would be fun to create something like this or make a challenge as you said. My prototype station is one really big module so my only choice is to Dock or send the Kerbals out for a dangerous EVA. -

I've got to save them before Periapsis which occurs before crossing above KSC. Therefore I cannot launch to rendezvous and get there in time. -

The Periapsis occurs 1/4 of an orbit before it passes over KSC. I am thinking of blasting off and heading into the same plane but in a westbound orbit. I will intersect a little higher than the Prototype Lab and then do a reverse-orbit burn. CRAZY!
