Basically if you want to gently nudge yourself into the suns SOI and then do your transfer burn in the suns SOI, then a higher orbit is a great starting point for a refuel station. But if you want to do a interplanetary transfer burn from kerbin SOI, then you should burn from a low orbit (I prefer 120k for higher warp speeds), this allows you to burn at an efficient ejection and phase angle while utilizing the oberth affect.

Hey I like your craft. What part mods are you using?- 786 replies

I like the new parts, but I agree that they need to be at a higher unlock level and cost a lot of science points. This release didn't really touch the career mode features very much, I bet Squad will look into that more in .24

Landing an asteroid atop the VAB

I want to see your Asteroid Tugs!
JedTech replied to spikeyhat09's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Here's my first Tug on my first Asteroid mission. Made a serious mistake very late into the game and discovered that the asteroid was orbiting in the opposite direction as me. Fortunately I had (and still have) lots and lots of fuel. I matched Velocities and reversed my orbit at closest approach. Here's my screenshots: -
Oh that is so lame. I've just arrived at my first asteroid with this huge science lab with all kinda of science instruments..... and all I can get is a surface sample!!! No Gravity Reading... No Seismic reading... No Mystery Goo... No Materials bay... No temperature... No Crew Report...?!? I seriously think this would be valuable science. Oh well, I guess I'll have to change my playing strategy over to goofing off instead of visiting lots of asteroids in the name of science: Next time I'm not bringing the lab, the primary objective will be to target the VAB with the asteroid.

Engine balancing issues in ARM?

I think you hit that on the money. Best thing veterans can do is support Squad and use mods as you said to provide extra challenge. -
What's next for KSP and NASA
JedTech replied to Dimetime35c's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I advise that KSP should no longer keep relations with NASA. The more government bureaucracy is attached to our releases, the slower they will come. -

What kind of impact tolerance does an asteroid have? -

I think just crashing into the VAB would be amazing to watch. -
Landing an asteroid atop the VAB
JedTech replied to KerballianDummy's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Ok, here's my plan. I think it has to be a powered landing as parachutes are difficult to be precise with. 1. Dock/Claw a few dozen booster ships with really big engines directly to the asteroid (all in the same hemisphere). 2. Attach all ships together via KAS attachments 3. Aim for the VAB, and wait to do a 15-20 second suicide burn. 4. Use Throttle Control Avionics to even out the thrusting and come in nice and controlled. -
Pretty much every KSP mod is a work-in-progress up until the time when modder looses interest/time.

Thanks! Your mods are some of the few I am waiting for compatibility confirmation before I upgrade. (that's because Goodspeed is the coolest)

Do you think there are some parts which do not need the ModuleAGEData module? Like a Strut or other things that don't have action items? It might be better if we used search criteria that applied the module only to parts that we want it to instead of all parts.

I'm a little worried about the future of this game...
JedTech replied to Renaissance0321's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I share your worry here. And I think regardless of what Squad says, and regardless of what versioning system they use: they have already released their product. It's only a matter of time before they hit a sales growth curve. It's also only a matter of time before a different company develops a brand new competing game which has the advantage of starting on newer and more capable architecture.
