  1. Time for another update. This time i only added a single craft, a helicopter based on the Blackhawk. Taught it would be better to do it this way instead of amassing a huge pile of crafts that i have to upload all at once. And here's some more info on that really big aircraft-carrier i was planning on doing. The carrier itself is done, but there is a project IRL that is linked to it that i want to get done first, im making good progress with it, but it's a bit hard to find the motivation to it since it kinda came out of nowhere. I don't wanna give too much info, but i can tell you it's quite huge, and has a lot of extra detail added, without having that huge of a part-count.
  2. In the top with all the writing tools, there's an eye symbol (aka spoiler), just click it and it will create a drop-down thingy that you can place stuff inside in. When you create a post or edit one, they will stay open on default (can be a little annoying when you have 30+ crafts in a single post), but when your done with the post, they will all close down, creating a nice short well organized post...well, depends on your view of well organized.
  3. Simplest answer is fuel-tanks (empty ones are more preferable). If you want some ideas, check out my KNS post (link is in the signature). Id guess the Cleveland hull this one is built on has some fuel-tanks hidden inside the hull to help keep the thing afloat...tough wings alone will create a somewhat decently floating hull on their own. Oh...and btw, welcome to the forums @BuxtonHouse. That's a pretty nice looking ship, reminds me of something the French would build.
  4. Saw some of the times posted, and decided to spend some extra time to try and get a better time as i know that it can be done. Here's a pick showing my latest effort I started from the runway without going to the start flag, so about 2 minutes prob should be taken from my final time. My time was 12.15, so about 10 minutes is what it would have taken if i started from the flag. That's about 1/3 taken away from my original time witch was about 15min if i remember correctly. I modded the vehicle a bit before the run, namely by making the wheels double wide and stiffening the custom suspension. I still need to do some more tinkering on the vehicle to make it even better. One of the things that needs fixing, is the RTG's that exploded during that run, meaning i had no power to the wheels. After that, i dunno, i guess it's just a matter of fixing issues as they come. It will be quite difficult to reach that 6 minute mark with this one, as it uses more...how should is say...realistic engineering (no offense to anyone)...well, minus the jet-engines of-course. Oh, and here's the new transport, witch should allow me to get to the start-point...or at-least close to it, in less than 20 minutes. (yeah, the paint-job is a little "gotta represent yo", but why not. Plus, i didn't really like the way it looked with the red-yellow and black paintjob of the "Storm")
  5. I believe the boost-flap is something that Azimech used, and is basically a flap that when deployed, will cover up a jet-engine and vise-versa, halting it's thrust while still keeping it spooled up, allowing for better control of engine-power...or so i remember. EDIT: seems i was correct.
  6. Desided to upgrade the "tracked" "Storm" a little and see if i can make it... Here's the result. The new version has improved suspension that actually works and makes the wheels pretty much indestructible, there's also improvements in the bodywork and a SHRIMEK and air-brakes. Oh, and there's also an anti-roll mechanism powered by 3 SAS-modules. Now it's a difficult choice of weather i should use the "Storm" or the more Dakar style truck for the drive.
  7. A little update on progress. Just for the fun of it, i decided to have a go at creating something new specifically for this challenge. Basically a small'ish "tracked" vehicle that would be nigh indestructible...well, it is tough, but not as tough as id like. It's also a bit crude and all over the place compared to the very stable and quite technical truck with it's air-brakes, thrust-reversers and self righting mechanism, none of witch this has. As for the cargo-plane... This rather old military cargo-plane of mine was the first candidate, but it turned out to be just a bit too small (has a 5m cargo-bay, but truck needs a 7.5m one). It was originally unpainted, but is now sporting the fictional "Strategic Airlift Command" (SAC) colors. I happened to be watching a documentary about the Vietnam war (the one on Netflix by Ken Burns), witch gave me the idea for this beast. (it carries the same fictional SAC livery) It's basically just a B-52 ala mua, very simple and very large (wingspan is about 140m). No, im not gonna carpet bomb trucks on the runway, it actually has an access ramp inside the cargo-bay. This arrangement allows for maintaining of looks, but it does effectively cut the usable cargo-bay space in half. It's not gonna get me there fast, but im not really concerned about that, as like always, i just wanna get to the finish line . BTW: as this is basically a two part challenge with cargo-delivery and Dakar style racing, what's gonna be the rules if i crash my truck, can i just revert back to the start flag, or will i have to do the entire flight again too. Not that it really matters, but it's not gonna do good to my motivation if i have to sit back and do a 30-40min flight every time i do a mistake .
  8. I think ive made my choice. And here she is. I took it for a test drive as-well, and i got pretty far before one of my tires burst, and i wasn't able to continue because this truck doesn't carry any Kerbals. Top speed of this thing on flat ground is about 100 m/s, and seems to be able to tackle pretty much any hill. It's also super stable too. So now it's not so much a matter of will i make it, it's going to be more about how quickly i can make it.
  9. Looks like i know what im going to be doing in these next few days. I feel like i just have to take part, not only because it looks to be pretty fun, but also because i feel like i let everyone down by not being able to make it in to the Kerbal Dakar race. So now it's time to redeem myself and do this...and do it with style. Now, im wondering if i should give my old racing truck a second chance... Or if i should use this instead... Or just make something completely new. The newer Russian style one is more stable and durable, but as i said, i feel like the old one deserves a second chance. While i figure that out, i should start planning on what kind of cargo-plane will i build.
  10. Delivering as promised. Here is the new Ship-building pack, witch includes all the "ready to build on hulls" and sub-assemblies (mostly just custom naval guns). And sorry i forgot, but in-case you where wondering that what kind of camo i designed for the WoWs USS Helena camo design contest, here it is. (as you can propably make out from the pick, i printed the poster on to 10 A4 sheets and then joined them together at the end) Sadly i didn't win anything from that contest, not even one of the 100 or so surprise packages that where given out randomly. I feel like i might have probably done better if i had colored Helena on a computer instead of by hand.
  11. 3 days full days of work, but it's finally here, a sort of new "grand naval expansion". I went trough and added every single new ship that was supposed to be added, and as a bonus, i also added every old ship worth mentioning, even a bunch of unreleased ones. To give you an idea of just how much work this took, the amount of ships in this post before this expansion was released was 3 or 4, now it's nearing 30. The next part is to upload all the ready to build on hulls and sub-assemblies. After that, the KNS backlog is pretty much sorted out, and any new stuff that comes, will be uploaded individually, instead of in a large group (helps my very limited motivation, witch thankfully seems to be coming back). I'll propably get to that tomorrow. And here are the "why the heck not" extra picks.
  12. Thanks . Yea, you know you've made something big when the easiest way of describing the size is: Wings the size of an aircraft-carriers deck, and a fuselage the size of an oceanliner. 1. It's a large fuel-tank. 2. 10,148,620 3. Should be up in a moment with some flying instructions. 4. Feel free to use it however you see fit.
  13. This is just a very quick post, as the aircraft is more of a just for fun experiment, rather than a serious craft, and i don't intend to share this as i don't really see anyone using this (guess i was wrong). This aircraft is now easily the biggest flying thing ive ever made. I was in the process of replicating a very huge Japanise concept flying boat (Kawanishi KX-03 if my memory serves me correctly) a long time ago, and felt like doing something similar in spirit to that. I also wanted to see that just how crazy of an aircraft i could create using the magic of tweakscale. I was expecting that the aircraft would most likely just explode on the runway long before i can get it to takeoff, and talking of water landing/takeoff...game over man. But, unexpectedly it actually was able to perform all of those tasks. It could definetly use some more wings and engines, but having it fly just well enough makes the thing seem a little more real, instead of a "movie-magic" powered super-plane. A nice little view to give you a nice sense of scale. The aircraft has to takeoff going the wrong way as the wing would hit the SPH. Here are some picks to show that the thing does in-fact work as a sea-plane...or more like flying cargo-ship. Flying instructions: There are a couple things to note when flying this thing. 1. For whatever reason, the tire's of the nosegear's like to sink underground after some time, so pull the nose up slightly to keep them above-ground. having them underground will reduce your speed to about 2/3. 2. As stated above, the aircraft likes to fly just about, so very low-altitude flight only, and remember to pick up speed and a bit of altitude before you turn. 3. Finally, don't pull up too hard or the aircraft fill flip over and crash. Technical specks: Top speed: about 100m/s Length: 203.7m Wingspan: 265.3m Height: 40.5m Mass: 8,155.08 tons Parts: 458 Mods used: Tweakscale Download link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/irrrgd4y94y9e1x/KFB-01 Kraken.craft?dl=0 And there you have it, a quick little experimental monster of a plane. I hope you enjoy it .
  14. You propably already saw it on the WIP section of the forums, but here is the new updated version of the FC-80. The only real thing that changed, is the engines witch should now look better, and it also has a new innovative arrangement of intakes for the engines, that for reasons of using fairings, can't have the usual intakes in front of the engine nacelle. Oh, and i also did a small improvement on the paint-job. One thing to note if you want to use this kind of an arrangement of intakes yourself, you need to make sure that there is a big enough gap between intake/pre-cooler components. Otherwise the intakes will not work.
  15. Time for a not do happy update. Remember when i said in the main post that i left out quite a lot of the internal structuring...well, it just bit me back hard. Actually it has had an effect for a long time. Some time ago after the model was hung, i noticed that the middle of the hull was starting to cave in, so i tried to remedy the issue by adding some extra ropes, 4 to be exact. They helped in keeping the ship together by having it hang from 6 points instead of just 2. Unfortunetly, that wasn't enough, as when i came back from my little summer holiday, the support ropes had come off and the ship was i pretty bad shape. The middle had caved in badly, the nose looked like it was the result of a head-on collision, and the tail had a huge gap in the bottom side and was pointing up by about 15 degrees. I kept it like that for a while while i figured that what to do about it. Today i decided that the ship was too far gone, just too much damage and no real way to truly fix it. Instead of just crushing it or burning it, it sliced it up and created a little "memorial" for it. I decided to keep: The gondolas, the most interesting part of the ship, and perhaps the most time consuming. The MG-platform, bout a days worth of super careful assembly and cutting. One of the side propellers, they may have looked a bit ugly with the huge blobs of hot glue, but there wasn't really a better way to do them with the materials i had in hand (recommended way was to use thin plastic sticks). the external oil-tanks, why not. the ships number, an essential thing to keep. A piece of the skin from the ships bow, mainly kept to preserve one the iron crosses. 2 of the rudders, don't really know why. And a piece of the hull, a perhaps painful reminder of the massive scale and the even bigger failure that was the result of nothing more than pure lazyness, and use of too weak of a material at too large of a scale. It did make me pretty sad having to slice it all up, but i feel the little memorial is a pretty nice way of preserving the project. All the essential details/parts are still there...and who knows, maby one day ill rebuild it...and if i do, ill be able to use the bit's i already made. And now that the ship is gone, i think im gonna populate the stand by hanging a few of my papermodel aircraft's from it. A Fiddlersgreen Grumman Duck and Bf-109, maby even some of my Homeworld ships...that sort of thing. It helps in clearing some spots on my shelf's witch are just way too full right now. So, a sad end to a once mighty model .
  16. Karleigh Bob class GMD (Guided Missile Destroyer) (sorry about some of the textures going a little haywire, there's really nothing i can do about it) Something a little different from the navy front. This Arleigh Burke class inspired (basically just a replica) ship is built in a more realistic manner, as opposed to the usual KNS ships with their MK-3 hulls and low part counts/sizes. The ship features nothing all that special or groundbreaking, but it has a few neat details. These details include an IR powered gunturret with included camera (too see what your shooting at better), some animated comms/radar stuff, working props (can't be used right now as they will just act as paddle-wheels due to the almost antigrav nature of the ships flotation), and of-course the full hull with actually working rudders (normally have to use engines on the bow to turn). Oh, and there's of-course the ships paint job. The reason the ship looks like it's levitating, is because of the tweakscaled wings that now have insane buoyancy. Because of these features, i decided not to add this to the KNS post, it shall instead remain as a possibly one-off 1:1 ship build. I started the build by placing down four wings that marked the length and width of the ship, then it was on to making the rest of side of the hull (upper part first). after that it was a matter of getting the deck and the lower-hull made. once those where done, it was on to the superstructure. Height of the ship was eyeballed. I was kinda expecting to have a lot of crashes while building this, but thankfully not, it helped quite a bit to exit and re-enter the hangar every now and then. Weapons in this thing was a pretty interesting conundrum, how am i supposed to carry near 90 missiles (SAM (Surface To Air) and Cruise on the real one), and 8 ASM's (Anti-Ship-Missile) onboard. Well, i really cant, but i did find a way to carry quite a lot without compromising realism too much. All the ASM's, or cruise-missiles in this case are carried externally on top of the hangar, and the other missiles are carried in the 2 missile cell's that are actually "Patriot" launchers turned upright. This allows the ship to carry 32 SAM's witch should be plenty to down any aircraft. I placed the launcher's where the forward CIWS (Close In Weapon System) would have been located. I moved it a little lower on to an external platform like the one on the JMSDF (Japan Maritime Self Defence Force) Kongo class GMD. The launchers needed to be placed there because i wanted to make sure that the launch tubes would be completely clear. I was basically afraid that the entire ship would explode if i launched a missile that was partially clipped by wings and such. In case your wondering about access, the hangar at the back is open and has enough space to fit something like the Seahawk (could hold 2 if rotors could be folded), and there are "doors"(lander cans that i originally saw @Triop use as crew doors) littered around the ship that allow you to transfer crew to different parts of the ship: bow, mid-deck, hangar and wings of the bridge. In case your wondering that if there's a way to fix this levitation issue, their really isn't, and trust me, i tried. It would take so many ore-tanks to make this thing sink low enough, that im pretty sure the whole of KSC would sink along with it. Increasing gravity 10 times didn't really do anything either. Operating instructions 1. before you set off, select one of the command seats located in both wings of the bridge and click "control from here". 2. Getting to water in this one is a simple as putting engines to full and turning off the runway. No need for maneuvering engines on this one, so A and D will be used for turning. 3. once you get to water, select one pair of rudders and turn them off. If you don't do this, you will have too sharp of a turning-circle and you WILL end up capsizing. 4. To operate the turret, Q and E is used for turning. NOTE, the elevator group in the IR menu came with the ships bell that is allowed to swing around (semi realistically) trough the power of IR. It happened to be bound to a group that is meant to operate the aircraft elevator in one of my carriers (It's a subassembly), so pay no attention to it. Technical specs Armaments: 1x howitzer in the gunturret, 2x Goalkeeper CIWS with added ammo drum, 2x Patriot launchers with 32x Intercept missiles, 2x rocket turret, and 8x cruise-missile in open launch-rails. Top-speed: 36 m/s Length: 154m Width: 20.8m Height: 51.4m Mass: 2.631 tons Parts: 940 Mods used Tweakscale, Infernal Robotics, BD-armory, and DCK (can be ignored, painted parts will revert back to default texture if not installed). All in all, a pretty fun little project in the middle of all the usual ship projects. Im pretty proud of the end result, and i think it actually turned out better than i expected...well...minus the weird levitation, tough i guess i should have expected that since i was dealing with tweakscale. As i said above, this will most likely be a one-off project as i do enjoy the more low-part less mods approach. But i do hope you enjoy it . Download link I still need to remove the custom flags i have placed on it before i can release this.
  17. Just taught id have some fun in the hotel bedroom at morning while i wait for both of my parents to wake up. It can do over 600m/s in low altitude making it a pretty powerful little plane. The cockpit is the old stock cockpit, i taught the plane would look much better with it than the new biz-jet cockpit.
  18. I mentioned earlier that i was going to be away from home for a while, now it looks like i may end up being away from home for two more weeks. During this i cant get any crafts uploaded, but i have decided that i will be drawing a new banner for my profile to replace that awful thrown together in two minutes one im using now. I may even end up doing a new profile pick, but that remains to be seen. I don't really have any new projects in mind because i want to get some of the old stuff out of the way first (navy stuff mostly), but i do wanna make a new much larger carrier for my fleet once i get back home, i was planning on doing a 1:1 IJN Akagi, but now i feel like doing a mix-em-up of the Akagi and the Graf Zeppelin, sort of in the same way as the K.S.S Freedom witch was a mix of the U.S.S Independence and the IJN Zuiho. Im planning on making it about 250m long to make sure that pretty much any carrier planes can be landed safely on it.
  19. Time for a small update (or rather big in a sense) and a possible bad-luck of the year award with a bag of misery on the side...seriously. So, this week was originally supposed to just be a week of me doing modelling work for my first proper diorama project, the centerpiece of witch is going to be my 1:72 Krupp K5 "Leopold" railroad gun that i built quite some time ago and a 1:72 scale BR-52 locomotive witch i still need to acquire. While i was doing planning for the diorama i decided to do some searching around to see if i would be able to acquire the locomotive model from the modelling store in Tampere (bout 110km away), or if i had to buy it from Ebay. It seemed that i was going to be able to get the model either directly or ask them too order one for me. Also during this search i came across a news article witch said that the model-store was closing it's doors for good, this weekend in the matter of fact. So, i went there to see whats left, and picked up a couple models, quite literally with a now or never mentality. After that we went to the model-railroading store (just a few km away from the other store) to see if the E89 "crocodile" locomotive had been fixed yet, thankfully the replacement part had arrived and the guy promised me he was gonna get it fixed so that when i go on holiday in Tampere for a week (that when i was originally supposed to go to those shops)it would be ready. But guess what other news i got, they are closing their doors too, tough about a month from now, but still. So, again i bought a bunch of stuff with that same now or never mentality. This has to be the most unluckiest week in the history of modelling...for me at-least, two model shops closing forever in the span of one summer, and guess where the second closest modelling shop is...Helsinki...300km away, and none of my family will ever go there unless they really have to. So, as far as modelling for me goes, with model railroading ill just have to make do with what i have and hope that there wont be any more fault's with my trains, with plastic models, it's basically online or go home. And here's picks of what i got from that trip. Last time i went there i saw these and was very interested, but decided not to buy them as i felt i already had plenty trains...well, you can never have enough, but you know what i mean. And yes, both the A and B units are powered, perhaps a little overkill for my tiny oval...but who cares. And here is the pile of model i bought from both places...at a pretty good discount of-course. A pretty surprisingly interesting and depressing week if do say so myself. I think the fact that i didn't even bring my wallet with me gives you and idea of what i was expecting to buy this week...instead i bought about 350€ worth of stuff. Im here with my mom, so she was the one who paid for the stuff...and yes, i now have a small debt that needs to be paid. But like i said, it was pretty much now or never and my mom agreed with me and said that if there's anything i really want, just put it on the pile and well talk about money later, and thank god for that. All in all, im left with a pretty +-0 kind of feeling, im really happy that i got all these lovely models , but im also really sad that my modelling hobby just got a pretty big stab to the heart .
  20. Thanks . I already have 4 rounded intakes clipped in the underbelly as "air-con intakes" like the ones you would see in real aircraft (lot smaller tough), then there's the "flap tracks" and engine mounts, so no shortage of hidden and clipped ones. But i never taught of using the engine-nacelles, definitely have to see about hiding some of those...hmm...i think i could probably replace the flat underbelly between the wings with all engine-nacelles and intakes. It's damn late, but i had to try before i forget about it after those two weeks, and here is the result. This is what the mess of intakes looked like. And this is what it looks like after the change. Looks pretty neat and tidy compared to the last solution if you ask me, and works like a charm too. Decided to use pre-coolers instead for their non fatness and cause they start working at a slower speed. Thanks for the tips buddy .
  21. @Kronus_Aerospace@EvenFlow Couldn't help but take some notes from your stock engine builds and create some of my own for the Fouglas FC-80. Their definitely not as flashy but i thing they look fine enough for me. Id say they look better than the old "Super Wheesleys" (4 "Wheesleys" and 6 circular intakes per engine) that it used before, but im not too happy about the lack of intakes problem created by the fairings. You can probably see the long line of ramp intakes on the leading edge of the wing, their is a whole host other intakes hidden all over as-well, and those can barely support the 12 "Wheesleys" that the aircraft has now. Here's some closeups of the engine. I wanted it to look like an engine-type from the era of the DC-8 and the old 707 types, basically longer and thinner than the newer engines. The other changes i did to the aircraft is basically just adding of radiator-panels and sciency bits to represent passenger and luggage-compartment doors and their hinges and handles. I did also try to bridge the gap between the fuselage stripe and the F on the tail a little better. Beyond that, there is really not much that can be done as far as improvements go, other than maby adding a custom cockpit, but considering the huge amount of lag i get in the editor because of the boat load of build nodes, i don't think that's gonna happen...Tough i could always make it as a separate thing and add it later as a subassembly...yea, i think i might do that, not now tough, as i will be away from my main PC for the next 2 weeks. Should give me enough time to think that what kind of a cockpit should i make.
  22. Ive been doing some updates and mods to some of my existing craft. I have a bunch of bigger projects in mind, but i just havent had the time (crazy considering im on holiday). And now im going away for most of the next two weeks, so projects will be on hold even longer. I wanted to show a couple paint-jobs i made for two aircraft that are going to appear in the "KNS Reloaded" post. A little "IJN special" paint-job for the Japanise heavy-fighter inspired Pheonix heavy fighter. The second one is a USN inspired one for the Sea-Fortress, a PBY Privateer based naval heavy-bomber The original non-painted ones had the new "Tempest" engines, but i had to change them cause they can't be painted yet. The next update for the KNS post will most likely include the flight demonstration video i was talking about, and will most likely include all the ready to build on hulls i have.
  23. Introduction of ad-revenue by Youtube + content-creator + viewers using ad-block = person wondering why he isn't making a living anymore. But im sure you already knew that .
