  1. I think that it proves that the reactor had to go critical. I don’t know another type of event that could cause that. I wonder if one of the satellites used to detect nuclear bomb tests picked that up.
  2. Given the translation from @NiL I think that the missile went critical on the launchpad causing a flash of radiation. I don’t know about the location, but maybe some radioactive material from the detonation got shot or spilled into that sea. Or the test was on a ship, which would make more sense
  3. If you want to keep this argument about your tarps and magnets, create another thread. This is about a explosion of a nuclear propulsion mechanism, not other rocket engine designs
  4. Enough of the catching exhaust, magnets and people just saying no, catching or diverting thrust doesn’t give you a better rocket engine. No matter how many newtons you waste on trying to beat Newton, you can’t win. Except in gravity maybe... but that has nothing to do with rocket engines. Anyways, the article I read seemed to be strange by saying a “jet” which would make it more like the American project SLAM (yes, that is the actual name) where you would pass air through a reactor core to heat it up and accelerate it. Curious Droid on YouTube did a great video on this. What was confusing is that the article said that it was a liquid propulsion system, which sounds like a rocket engine (American equivalent: NRX). I’m thinking that it was a jet engine where to decrease weight of the engine they are injecting some fuel gas/liquid into the air coming in to get some more thrust, at the cost of some efficiency.
  5. That’s how they work, with liquid hydrogen
  6. I would guess that they are using a fission reactor engine. Fusion is very hard to make work, and an rtg rocket breaking apart would have radiation seep out. A nuclear reactor going critical would create a flash of high energy photon radiation, possibly making some atoms undergo alpha and beta decay, Making those types of radiation
  7. I’m thinking either a half buried RTG or an airlock 1 on the ground.
  8. The pods in game are meant to replicate the descent modules used on the Vostok and Voshkod missions. There’s probably mod(s) that have lookalike pods. Happy flying.
  9. I think that this would be implemented as a jet engine the size of a Juno with the same ISP but because of it’s lateness on the tech tree it’s alternator can put out massive power... In a mod. This isn’t really something that we need in stock compared to other engines. This could be interesting in the Airplanes Plus mod so maybe you could ask the creator(s) of that great mod, or if you want to use this in your craft right now, find a tutorial on editing part files. Make a copy of the Juno engine and crank the alternator output up. I hope I answered/helped your question/idea well. Well, I’ll end here.
  10. Something that might be really cool is the ability to switch the RCS pack for a Kerbin-flyable jet pack. I know, it’s slightly (maybe) unrealistic, but in comparison to the RCS pack with 600m/s of delta V, a jet pack running off monopropellant with 10 minutes of flight time (probably pretty realistic powered by hydrogen peroxide decomposition) sounds like something in the scope of KSP. Actually, this would be greater in stock like the addition of the parachute. An addition like this should be able to everyone. Just an ideas.
  11. Inflatable splashdown bags for capsules would be cool. Only problem is KSP’s density model would make this useless for flotation because everything floats. Anyways, they would look cool. I would like this added, but maybe after other things.
  12. More SRBs. A 0.625 size one, A circular one for boosting probes, and an 1.875 size one for space shuttle boosters and rockets in general.
  13. I agree with the texture revamps. Also, I don’t know if it would take too much computer power, but revamped rocket exhausts would be great. To my (not very much) knowledge, the exhaust particles are the same since the first version of KSP. Differentiating between kerosene for sea levels and hydrogen exhaust colors for vacuum I’m guessing would be simple. Revamping the effects entirely would be great. It could make KSP look a lot better. Also, a previous suggestion that I made:
  14. I believe it should have a similar revamp to the mk1 tanks.
  15. They definitely do need a revamp. I would like it look similar to the 1.6 adapter (2.5-3.5m) and have all the same texture switches. This would be great for 1.7.
  16. So my Missile frigate is pretty bugged - I will try and make a 1.1 version although don’t expect that for a while because I am having Kerbal X problems. I will also post the TAMLB2-1 ballistic missile (stock BDA Missile manager).
  17. For the R&D part of this, I designed a ballistic missile that can travel more than 35 km - (I don't know the exact range but It can hit the KSC from the Island airfield). Here are the pictures:TAMLB2-1 Test Flight From Island To KSC Unfortunately, I forgot my Kerbal X password so I can't share craft file at this moment.
  18. Okay, here is the missile frigate craft file. Soon as I have time to fire up KSP will get pictures. Link: https://kerbalx.com/TyloAirframes/Naval-Missile-Frigate
  19. Making Missile - I can’t believe I hit the Astronaut complex on the first try - I am even happier that it actually destroyed it! How do you GPS lock targets at high ranges? The FLIR ball doesn’t seem to work.
  20. After realizing that my old corvette did not float. Finally after designing a new one loaded with more missiles- I would call it a missile frigate. I am going to call these Occiere-class ships
  21. Finally finished frigate after lots of work in weapon density department. I'm calling it a Athena-Class Frigate. Working on pics.
  22. I am making my own frigate - I seem to have a lot less weapon-to-size ratio than the rest of the thread.
  23. I’d think yes. Just make sure to turn them on! Given that you have wings I’m gonna guess you have an interplanetary SSTO. Congrats! I may have had a probe on every planet except Eello, but my kerballed craft have only gone to Dres. And not back. Happy waiting! (For those darn transfer windows!)
  24. I believe the engine pre-coolers won’t help. I would recommend thermal control systems because they generally look better. If you do use regular radiators, then remember that they only cool the block they are placed on and the blocks attached to that. If you want a sleek ship with no parts sticking out (to get those cool looks), then a mark 1 liquid fuel tank should have enough surface area when the engine is directly attached. Happy floating!
