  1. I decided to play MSFS too, and for fun tried to cold-start the F-18 (my first cold-start also) while listening to the top gun anthem. Hearing those engines spool up one by one with the music in the background... the coolness levels are life-threatening. I think maybe I should give DCS another chance- I thought it was too complex but I'm actually loving this.
  2. I just realized that my robotics teams played not one, but TWO world champions this season. And one of them we faced in playoffs, so in a way they couldn't have won Worlds without us- if we won (although we lost by massive margins), they would've been eliminated and the world champions would've been someone else!
  3. robotics season ended, and since i dont go to the same school as the rest of my teammates i just cant talk to my friends and stuff... i could text, but i just dont know how...
  4. how does one make, keep, and better friendships? i struggle with all of these- if you're trying to make a friendship, you talk to someone, right? say hi? well after that what do you say? talk about the weather? well that's only gonna get you so far. you could talk about common interests, but having common interests means you both know what is to be known about the subject. and keeping/bettering friendships- how does that work? so far playing video games together is a pretty good way to keep a friendship, i've found, but what if the person doesn't play games? and how much should you text people, and what should you text them? because i don't know, i only text people when necessary for practical reasons, but i've been told that i should text more. I'd certainly like to text more, especially if it'll help friendships, but I don't know what to say, and when I have an idea, I'm too anxious to put it to any use- am I being annoying? if it's a question or advice, am I just selfishly using them as a resource and nothing more? and how much should I text? and how do I get out of what I call the "acquaintance-zone", where you've talked to someone, kinda know them, but not that well, especially if you don't get to see the person too much?
  5. Over the course of of 6 months I have become a massive metal fan.
  6. Granted. It takes so many resources that your computer gets bricked. I wish for a 4 or 5 on Calc AB
  7. 10/10. The griddy cracks me up, and the lander is super cool.
  8. "Life is short but long enough for a good life" - Someone whose quote appeared in Wheelock's Latin
  9. guys... do you have tips on how to git gud at calculus, especially the topics in ap calc ab? Specifically, I have to generally get faster and more fluent, and before may 8. also how do you notice small mistakes, like forgetting to turn the 12 on the other side of an equation into 0 when differentiating both sides? You can double-check and stuff, but the problem is that my brain had subconciously labeled that part of the equation as "so trivial I don't have to pay attention to it" so I just skipped over it. (I think there's a name for that effect, also) Also I somehow feel like I don't have enough RAM for these problems?? Like sometimes I feel like there's too much information in the problem statement and in my head for me to store and handle at once?? Apparently it's not unheard of among people which ADHD, which I suspect I have but have not been diagnosed with- does anyone else get this feeling, and what can help with it?
  10. When you mishear "great old one" as "Gradled one" in The Thing That Should Not Be
  11. This is very much a first-world problem, but it's quite annoying that so many cool songs have, well, affectionate noises in them. I don't think it adds much to the song, but it means that I can't play them or use them in certain contexts.
  12. Watched Emesis Blue. Really good, extremely impressive movie. It's really amazing that the creators but managed to make it so cinematic and frightening despite it being based on the funny "I will send my condolences to your kangaroo wife" video game. I think I'll rewatch it late one of these nights for maximum scare factor.
  13. is there a word for going forwards and backwards??? like "strafing" but going straight. the lack of one is driving me insane- i dont' want to write "going forwards and backwards" but I don't want to use a made-up word!
  14. wait, what?! I don't remember nominating a TOTM...
  15. Because bats use echolocation to hunt moths, some of them have evolved stealth, and others have evolved long tails that basically act the same as chaff in a fighter jet. Isn't it freaking awesome that nature basically invented radar and radar countermeasures?!
  16. it's pretty nerdy to have that much knowledge in trucks lol anyhow, you know you're a nerd when you look up the XKCDs and SCPs corresponding to your robotics team numbers.
  17. It's for that, but also for having an impact on your community. In our case, we hold an annual E-waste drive that handles over a ton of E-waste, partner with various groups such as the Girl Scouts, hold a Speaker Series where we invite JPL scientists to speak about their projects, and more.
  18. "The FIRST Impact Award (formerly Chairman’s Award) is the most prestigious award at FIRST, it honors the team that best represents a model for other teams to emulate"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. Impact award Las Vegas regional!! WE'RE HEADING TO MOTHER APPRECIATING HOUSTON!!!!!!!! for context, we won the most prestigious award at a robotics competition which gives us a ticket to the highest level of competition where all the superstar teams are. THIS IS OUR GOAL THAT WE WORKTOWARDS EV#RY YEAR THIS IS T H E E N D GO AL AND THE GRADUATING SENOIRS WHO ARE VERY NMICE AND COOL PEOPLE WILL GET TO ATTEND TWOLDS AND WE HAVE SUC EDED CHEESY POOFS HERE WE COME!!!@!!!! ------------------------------------------------------------------- The matches were over, and we had been eliminated from the robot competition. We were all in the bleachers, all feeling tired and depressed. Our only chance at going to Worlds was the impact award. I personally was told that other teams are really competitive for this, so I thought it was hopeless. As the judges started to announce, I said to my teammate sitting next to me, "it's not gonna be us". The judges started with the big announcement. "Here's what the judges had to say about our First Impact Award winner." [thing kinda sorta describing us] [thing describing us i guess] [no. it can't be us. it can't be us.] (me in denial because i didn't want to be disappointed) [NO WAY NO WAY NOPE NOPE] [NO. NO. NO NO NO NO. NO.] "Please join me in congratulating team-" [HOLY CRAP] "TWENTY FOUR TWENTY NINE!" [AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA *gets tackled by teammate* AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA] WE F---ING DID IT this is an eyesore but still posting it
  20. Tell her that I also pronounce it that way. We must spread the true pronunciation!!
