  1. Also, while Laythe is easy to navigate, it is quite hard to drop things close together by chute (i dont use any orbital trajectory mods). Missing the landing spot will most likely result in the container landing in the ocean... which could be considered fatal, as it becomes unreachable. I need a transport unit, that can drop off equipment exactly where i need it.
  2. I need an SSTO for sure. I want my crew back and i wont waste space with an additional lander / return vehicle, that can master an orbital ascent. The containers will be fitted with charges (decouplers) to blow off parts of the walls. This here is only a determination of how much space i need and how big equipment can be.
  3. This is a payload rack and standardized containers, that might carry the vehicles and equipment for a large scale Laythe ground operation. The containers can house several vehicles, a habitat and other useful things to have on the surface of Laythe. The next task will be, developing an SSTO spaceplane, that is capable of bringing these containers, one at a time, down to the surface of Laythe and then get back up to the main vessel for refueling and the next transport task. The successful development of such a vessel is key to this approach. However, the SSTO has to be small enough, to be transported along with the main mission craft. This is a tough one... I already have some ideas how to accomplish this, but who knows if it will work out. Keep your fingers crossed.
  4. I have 5 MB of Mods installed and i wish they werent necessary...
  5. The first thing i did in KSP 1.2 was establishing a large scale ComNet around Kerbin with one extra satellite in very high orbit for interplanetary communications. I plan to build a network and a relay station in high Jool orbit, for guaranteed good communications. Maybe i will launch these prior to the main mission, depending on the launch window and the way, the JTV turns out. If i can fit the stuff inside the JTV, i will most likely do it in one mission. Dropping a probe into Jools atmosphere is a thing i already did in earlier versions of KSP. As it was fun and there are new options and experiments available, i will make this part of the mission for sure.
  6. Thank you. The habitat was the easiest part to start with. I plan to go to Jool this time, as i still havent completed a successful Grand Tour. Its about time
  7. And the module with completed mounting frame and the new "Worker Ant Mk. 1" orbital utility vehicle on top (here with a clipped on science module). This is a very early iteration and might change a lot, during development.
  8. Started working on a new habitat for my next mission. It will house six Kerbals and return them to Kerbin at the end of the mission. While i always went for a vertical landing previously, this time i will land the capsule in horizontal position, to prevent it from flipping over, which was always a risk in previous missions. The 2 images on top show the heatshield, the de-orbit engines and the habitat itself, the bottom image shows the habitat connected to the DTV lab module, that is still in orbit around Kerbin among with the rest of the ship. So far, all tests have been successful, even when landing in very rough terrain and on slopes. I thought about refueling the DTV by delivering fuel from Kerbin, but a much more efficient way would be, to refuel it with a mining operation on Minmus. The DTV has still fuel in its tanks and can easily move to Minmus, so the plan is, to get it into Minmus orbit, once it is fitted for the new mission.
  9. I am currently thinking of modifying the ship for Jool transfer. I think it can deliver the same payload mass to Jool with ease... Would be an interesting mission, sort of an feature extended Grand Tour. Well... Winter is coming...
  10. No, only for final orbital correction. It had enough fuel for engine assisted capture in the original configuration, far more than actually necessary, but i currently tend to make the craft lighter instead and shift weight more to the front, to prevent flipping during aerobraking.
  11. For cool small part count landers you chould also take a look at the craftfile page of Raptor 9.
  12. This here was back in ye olde days... A large scale duna mission in KSP 0.22. It was using mods, but most of those mods are part of the basic game now, like resource collection and scanning satellites. What is missing is KIS and Infernal robotics, but you can do most of the stuff, using small docking ports and stock landing gear. Maybe it gives you some inspiration Full album here: http://imgur.com/a/zdnmK You can also visit my Duna Trek thread (in my signature) for pure stock Duna Constellation landers and bases. Have fun
  13. If you ask for shameless self-promotion, i can point to the Duna Trek mission in my signature... there... THERE!!!
  14. Thank you! Checking now
  15. I encounter all of the OPs bugs as well. Honestly, the 1.2.0 mac version is a glitch fest. Guess i will resign until the next big update is released.
  16. I use the skycrane approach... or cargo bay, depending on the rover to be delivered.
  17. Still on KSP vacation. I will take a look at those nice new features, but i will wait for the next release to jump on the Hype Train! Anyways, great work! Looking forward to get back into the game then
  18. I actually dont have abandoned vehicles in my career game, as i construct my (fully stock) vehicles with the option to add or remove parts for upcoming missions. They get parked when not needed and new modules are ferried to them as needed. Several of my career games were filled with non-modular craft and ended with a lot of junk throughout the system. The modular approach is not only cheaper, you can also combine things of different missions and ferry them to new destinations. The DTV "Robert A. Kerman" in Kerbin orbit - awaiting new modules and crew after its successful return from Duna. Cant wait to add the new Network functionality to it. Here it is seen in its prelaunch config, just before going to Duna. Its next mission will most likely be a grand tour mission to Jool. Kerbin Orbital One - A modular space station, currently in a 100 km Kerbin orbit, working on SCIENCE. It was designed to be assembled by a spaceplane, so no rockets where wasted during its construction. The Morray Delta VI spaceplane has an equipment module in its cargo bay, which holds all vital tech like fuel cells, solar panels, docking port etc.. If anything else is needed, i can simply exchange the module during the mission without losing its cargo capabilities or the need to redesign in the SPH. The module has a probe core and can be detached to assist orbital construction, or operate as an RCS powered tug. The AT Rabbit multi purpose rover. Holds 4 kerbals, can operate independently and has a cargo bay with docking ports for mission payload. Several of these serve münar and minmian ground bases at the moment. I plan to bring some of them to Duna and the Jool system. There are a lots of more craft in my fleet. Most of them are already designed to be reusable. My launchers still need to be redesigned for reuse though. Both launch and transfer stage are usually lost, but at least, they can de-orbit, to keep the space around Kerbin clean.
  19. Still on KSP vacation - Maybe i will continue to fine tune my Constellation lander, once i return, or maybe i´ll leave it as it was (it worked quite well already).
  20. Goodbye fellow Kerbonaut, all the best on your future ways Fly safe!
  21. Thanks a lot for adding me to the list @Endersmens. Feels good to be here
